If you have it on PC Project Nevada mod makes the controls and shooting a lot better. 4, in comparison to NV, is a pretty big step back from an RPG system stand point.

Just looked this up, it might be exactly what I need to get through it again. The urge for Fallout4 is still here but I may be able to stave it off with that.

So are Fusion Cores rare or in limited supply? Up til now I've avoided using my my Power Armor, but I have 3 full fusion cores and a partially used one. Does it make any sense at all to find a location, fast travel back to get my armor, wreck shit, then bring it back home? Or am I setting myself up for harder times later if I use it up now.

You'll find plenty of fusion cores with a decent amount of exploring. And even more so if you have sticky fingers. I use my armor when it sounds like I'm in for a tough fight(which is pretty frequent on Survival difficulty) and I have 11 FC's at the moment at level 19.

Yep I have 21 at level 13. You find them in a lot of random places you explore.

I had one of my more bizarre moments in gaming with a child this morning. My son is four and still hasn't quite made the move to really wanting to play games. And I don't think Fallout 4 is going to be the game that hooks him, both for reasons of mechanical complexity and thematic inappropriateness. But this morning, my wife was up early to let the puppy out, and was playing before our son got up. And when he got up, we weren't doing anything combat-intensive, so we just decided to press on for a bit until the usual time where he questions why Nick Jr. (or something similar) isn't on the TV and we have to quit what we're doing so that Dora the Explorer or Paw Patrol or what have you can blare across our screen.

But something weird happened. He was just captivated by exploration of the wasteland. All of a sudden what we were doing had to take a backseat to "go look at that car!" and "oooh! A train! Daddy, we need to fix that train!" "Daddy, what happened to that house! Why is it all broken? Daddy, go in there!" "Daddy, go look at that yellow car!"

It was a very surreal moment. "We can't fix the train kiddo! I'm going the other way." "No! I want to look at the train again!" Shortly thereafter, my wife was clearing out junk for scrap within Sanctuary, and this upset him. "No! I want it to stay dirty!" He proceeded to cry over this.

I'm not yet quite sure what this says about him that he seems attracted to the post-apocalyptic wasteland setting. Suffice to say though that this has been one of the more odd gaming experiences I've had with him. Quite a change from the typical experience of playing Nintendo software (or more appropriately trying to get him to play Nintendo software with me as he's still not quite made the jump from touch screen to traditional controls).

"I think I'll tinker with my laser pistol"

*ten minutes later*

"POWERFUL LONG RANGE HAIR TRIGGER LASER RIFLE"

I love this game.

I wish you could name your guns.

HA! That's awesome. Sounds like he'll be ready for something like Minecraft soon.

quick noob question. is it more worth it to salvage parts from junk around your base OR put it into your inventory to sell for caps? i know you obviously can't put a bed frame in your inventory, but should I take like a desk fan, for example, to sell for caps or just take the scrap metal?

thanks.

I wish you could name your guns.

You can, in the weapon station when modding a weapon push T on the PC I think Y / Triangle on consoles and you'll be able to rename the weapon.

I renamed my long range laser rifle to Beam Rifle and my laser pistol with the beam spread muzzle attachment the Beam Spray Gun, both after gundam weapons.

Scrap it, especially the fan and stuff cause they have important parts like Screws. Honestly haven't bought a whole lot. Most of the time I just exchange the plethora of weapons and armor I get from enemies for more ammo.

Got it, thanks for the reply.

He will do well in 30 years when the real Fallout happens!

Jesus Christ. 17 hours in the game and I now realize that the game doesn't auto-scrap all the stuff I was transferring in my workshop.

I was struggling so hard to find screws lol. I'm swimming in them now.
....are you kidding me! That explains why I have no materials either.

So, is the main quest ultra short this time? I just received the quest where I have to go to the
Glowing Sea
and a friend told me that I am almost at the end.

I honestly think the game can look beautiful at times (PC).

This isn't even downsampled. Just running it at native 1080p, ultra settings, TAA. Not bad at all. Don't even find TAA to look that blurry. Does a stunning job at cleaning up all the foliage shimmering.

Holy shit at Swan's Pond.

That scared the shit out of me, and I had to reload my save. I couldn't handle fighting that thing.

i klilled it by throwing mines all around the pool.
aggrod him and a few awesome explosion effects later. the water settled and he was lying dead. with an awesome as hell melee weapon.

its very atmospheric at best,
looks pretty decent during sunrise and sunset though

Xbox One or PS4? Probably buying this game in the afternoon, which console performs better, or is just the better one to play on?

we dont know. 2 analysis and 2 completely different results

playing on ps4, mostly stable, no major bugs so far, chugs during intense firefights a bit,
one area was terrible but its bad on all platforms.

I'm not finished, but it seems so. I'm like 2 quests past that and
I'm already being asked to pick a faction? I had to reload a past save so I could go and finish faction quests instead. No clue if this choice is permanent or anything though

Is it possible to say no to Preston when he asks to rejoin at Sanctuary and help and stuff with the minutemen / settlement? I don't want to have to babysit them at sanctuary. All I want to do is build at Red Rocket and ignore Sanctuary if I can, because they're asking for beds and food and shit and I'd rather not have to deal with that settlement. I haven't done anything yet and if an attack happens there we're ruined.

Just don't follow them

You can ignore all of that if you really want. Game doesn't force you to do it, but it doesn't give you the option to explicitly say no to him.

I'm quite far in the main story now, there was a part that rubbed me in a wrong way
i killed one of those T1000 guys and got the courier chip, i found the railroad guys and the game went into this bottleneck where if i wanted to continue the quest, i had to give into the demands of some bossy leader.
There was no other way to continue the quest which i found annoying. How is anyone supposed to play an evil character in this is beyond me, this seriously feels less and less of an rpg the further i get.

Normally i wouldn't have a problem with that but when i go into a Fallout game i have certain expectations, and this one hasn't really met those. I have still liked the game but i don't think that i could recommend it to people who were fans of the rpg side of fallout.

Edit:

I also hope that i could modify the hud, i would get rid of that compass in a heart beat if i had the chance.

Been playing a good bit.

Cannot be even slightly fucked with the settlement management. I really hope after that Sanctuary mission there is no more mandatory building.

Also I have no idea where Dogmeat is.

I assume the Convention Centre (the new one) is not in this map of Boston? I kinda wanted to see if I could visit Blasted PAX East,

its not mandatory at all. walk away at any moment? go explore and look for other quests exploration is the name of the game

Hmm, thanks for the answers on the Fusion Cores. Guess I'll start using the Power Armor when I know I have a big fight coming up. I'm playing on Normal though so it is probably OP and less fun for most missions. My guess is ammo will probably be the limiting factor anyway.

You can! It's T while modding at the weapon's bench on PC. Not sure on consoles.

Cool, thanks guys.

Can't wait for gundam power armor mods. Just rip the models from Gundam VS

You can still use regular guns. So as long as you have ammo for them, you'll be fine.

I was just watching Edge of Tomorrow and it reminded me so much of the Power Armor in this game.

Oh my days, Corverga Assembly Plant is a shit show on PS4, dropping to single digits.

I feel like anyone that says they don't notice the fps drops is either blind, is lying, or hasn't gone into Corvega Assembly Plant.

In all honesty, and I'll gladly point out problems or complain when given the chance, I cleared it out last night and it ran fine for me. Sure I may have been about a 12 pack deep, but it was the most combat I've seen at once in the game so far so I'd figure fps problems would really stand out, it was really smooth for me.

Well I realized slowly how much fun the powered armors are to use (and how much flavor to the game they add).

So since I was already a fairly INT heavy character I decided to take it all the way.

I decided I would become self reliant on the power armors, so I turned my girl into a tech savy mechanic who maintains her small garage filled with power armors for all different needs.

This is incredibly awesome, because you've always got fusion core management in the back of your head, even when you've got 12 of them you can't help but think to yourself "maybe I should take it slow and conserve my cores I might need them later...". So some times I get out of my suit and when I am out of my suit I have like no defensive bonuses so I am prone to dying in like 4 shots when it's just me my jump suit, which means it's time to stop being a death machine tank and you gotta take it real slow. The game goes from being the hunter to being the hunted it's a really cool change of pace. By far the coolest thing is maintaining your suit through all the combat you're going through. Finding a near by power armor station to maintain your suit when it's falling to pieces is super fun.

One of the most tense moments happened to me during a repair pit stop. I was wandering south of diamond city after fighting through TONS of super mutants even a few suicide bombers my armor was falling to pieces, the only parts that were still intact were the torso and the left arm. So I check my map and I see a junk yard near by that I had passed before, I remembered there was a power armor station there so I go to fix her up there. i only had enough metal to finish repairing the torso and the left arm so I go to look for things to break down into metal in the junk heaps. Then I get ambushed by another super mutant raiding party, 3 of them had miniguns. I panicked and sprinted back to the repair shop for safety but they surrounded me. I was fending them off from the bathroom with my combat shot gun but I couldn't stay out long enough to score a kill. So I knew what had to be done, I poked out used VATS to target the nearest mutants head which staggered him long enough for me to slip by, another one let loose a hail of bullets that took me down to like 15% hp. But I made it to my powered armor...my 30% complete powered armor. I hopped in and with only one good arm and my torso I fended off about 5 super mutants.

It was an absolutely awesome moment.

Here I am posing with my fully repaired armor after the battle ended.

I have a huge smile on my face right now, thanks for this. This game is just pure awesome.

Exploring the urban area in this game is SO much more enjoyable than it was in 3 with all it's labyrinthine subway connections. Making my way to The Castle and there's so much to see, so much to fight, and so many random buildings to enter that what probably could have been a 5 minute sprint to my destination has turned into something like 6 hours of completely incidental exploration.

Got around 26 hours played so far and I haven't even entered Diamond City yet. I showed up long enough to realize that I didn't play these games for their story and then I just wandered off in some other direction.

So, if I'm out in the world and load up Codsworth full of loot and then dismiss him to Sanctuary, will he be waiting there will all my loot? Would be useful if, say, I meet a new potential follower during my travels.
