. Cannot say I am sold on the base building stuff, but everything else has been excellent so far. Is the initial level cap higher than twenty this time? I am nearing level twelve, and I am not going to get much beyond the basic perks if I only get nine more points to assign. ADS with a sidearm is so effective that I do not bother with VATS unless I am using a more powerful weapon.

There's no level cap in the game.

I have a couple of questions. Hope someone can answer them.

1. Do all merchants pay the same amount when buying your stuff, or are some merchants paying more than others? Same goes for their prices when you're the buyer.

2. I have only one Power Armor body right now, and it's at Red Rocket. Say I wanted to use the PA on a quest on the other side of the map, what's the best way to do that? You can't fast travel with it, so what are you guys doing? Do you have several PA's scattered around the map or what?

Fast travelling with the PA will not consume your power core. So that is the best way to do it. You can keep different PA with different attributes i guess. I would recommend just keeping them together in one place for easy access in one single place, instead of many. Fast travelling just makes it a lot more accessible.

Not sure about the merchants question. But previous games did have different merchants that would pay full price for what you are selling. Someone can help confirm this if they have the game at hand and have payed attention to this. I have rarely sold my stuff so i am not sure.

Time for my jaded impressions after playing a couple hours on PS4.

I'm done with it, it's exactly FO3 with a sloppy new coat of paint, and sloppy is being nice. Had 2 crashes, numerous glitches that didn't hurt anything, just reminded me that I'm playing Morrowind w/ guns v5.

This fucking engine is so bad, and it's always the same issues. That PR BS about the combat being improved was not true at all, the only improvement I can see is the feel (sound, recoil etc) of the guns, the shooting still sucks. Visually it's an abomination with the exception of the outdoor scale.

To be fair I didn't care much for FO3 so I can see people enjoying this one.

Bethesda can forget my $ for the next ES unless they change engines.

I'm going back to Divinity for now.

theres no level cap, Ive already went into perks I had no intention of getting (2 points in perception for 3 total, to get 3 points in the health perk). you wont be starving for points if you do alot of side stuff

you are completely entitled to your opinion about the game, but this bit is just completely false, since it is FACTUALLY improved over 3 / NV.

Having a pretty good time on my first visit to Diamond City. This is my build btw
h7e9uEK.png
(haven't increased any stats yet, don't know if I will)

I'm level 10, 10 hours played or so. Got here last night...

I had a ton of stuff to sell and was almost at the weight limit (Dogmeat full) and ran into the Brotherhood of Steel on the way and they wanted to go grab some transmitter I guess, in a robot-infested building, real quick so I agreed. Basically this was an escort mission... for me. Paladin Danse just slaughtered robots that can kill me in two hits by the dozen, so I just let him go while I picked apart each preceding room for loot. I didn't kill a single thing during this mission (which was for the best as I had no health and >50% radiation). Had to trudge from Cambridge to Diamond city without the ability to sprint. Look at my HP bar when I arrived, the entrance was quite a welcome sight: http://i.imgur.com/FZLb2fL.jpg

Found a bazillion more things during this little mission so when I was done I was about 150lbs over the limit of almost pure profit. I've also barely used any ammo. Plus I've found lots of caps from luck and talked NPCs into giving me lots extra during every quest. Hilariously, Piper's "con" way into the city involved faking that I was a trader with a huge shipment of supplies. Lol...

Basically I can buy and sell everyone in the city many times over but they don't have the funds to buy my wares. How long does it take for them to replenish their store of bottlecaps? Realized Dogmeat doesn't come into the city with me and he has also got a bunch of stuff on him too.
I have my eye on that
Big Boy
the weapons vendor has. I already have almost half of what it costs and a handful of
mini nukes
. How long do I half to wait and keep making trips back to be able to buy these guys all out?

I know there's a glitch that makes it not matter, not interested though.

Also pretty cool that Diamond City (if you hadn't had it spoiled as to what it yet) is named after
the baseball diamond. Not what I had in mind.

I've done the main story quest stuff associated with being here. What else should I see before I go? I talked to
the radio DJ
but he didn't have anything of note to say.

For the love of all that is holy can dogmeat just calm the fuck down. Never seen such a hyper active AI in any other game, just won't stop pathing.

Also, why won't building material snap to pre-existing house slabs? Really annoying trying to rebuild houses and it look shonky cause the walls are two feet over.

Can't wait for the inevitable UI overhaul mod. It's fucking awful right now. Weapon and armor sorting especially, where the same gun but with different upgrades will be separated in the list because they didn't go with a half-decent naming system.

I swear as good as the gameplay is I feel like just going back to play New Vegas or at least wait like 6 months for mods to fix everything. I wasn't prepared for just how bad the dialogue and writing turned out to be.

That's just the text on the screen for the Fallout 4 options, which express a general intent but not the actual things the character says; you're comparing shorthand options that lead to fully spoken dialogue to the fully written dialogue in other games. It would be more comparable if their recorded lines were there.

Curie
is the worst companion so far. I want the dog back but I can't find him in Sanctuary T.T

He is around one of the first houses when you come in from the bridge. If you are looking into sanctuary he would be on the right. On the backyard. There is a dog house there. He is chilling there.

The house is easily identifiable because it has the cooking post in front.

Hope that helps.

Wow! I tried fast travelling with the PA before, and it didn't work for some reason. I just assumed you couldn't fast travel when wearing it. Thank you both! Will make some of the quests a lot easier now.

I can summarize all recorded lines in Fallout 4:

A: Alright, I'll do what you said right away.
X: Sarcastic. (and then the NPC will get annoyed at which point you press A)
Y: Flux Capacitor? (General question of the thing the NPC wants, they tell you to not worry about it and then you press A)
B: Not right now/I have to think about it (NPC stops conversation and waits for you to re-initiate and press fucking A).

Oh and of course the Occasional Charm Response which usually amounts to "C'mon think about it" or if at the beginning of a Quest "Eh, it's a bit risky for such low pay."

Pretty much. So far, the dialogue has mainly been goody two shoes/sarcastic/inquisitive. As bland as expected.

Am playing the XB1 version, had a little more of 2 hours already, and until now everything is pretty solid! Soon I'll be arriving to Diamond City though, which I guess is where the haviest areas are located?

I'm doing a totally different build this time (on PC I was choosing perks arbirtrarily) and until now it seems to be working fine, let's see how it handles.

Graphically it is actually looking quite better than I expected on the console!

Edit: Also, I've tried the Fallout 3 code I gained and it's actually working pretty damn well, that's great! I may play it too!

I know you can link junk items between settlements with the local leader perk. Is it possible to also link other items stored in crafting stations (e.g. weapons, armor, etc) so you can also access them across settlements?

Thank you so much. That worked.

Wow... The Lost Patrol mission can eat my ass.
The satellite array with the super mutants is the hardest thing I've faced in the game so far
. Level 11, major skills are agility and perception, playing on very hard.

I guess I should do the main quest for a while. See what the big deal is about Diamond City.
Didn't feel too bad with my sniper. I was around level 14, didn't die, used a few molotovs for good measure.

So I'm trying to build a fence, nothing fancy, but because of the snapping feature half of the fence is hovering midair. Is there a way to prevent this, or is this just how it's going to be?

I can't get my game to run in full screen for shitting and it's really aggravating me because I want to play it but now in windowed mode what the deuce.

Man, those Fallout 3/NV shots on the last page are making me really miss the old dialogue system.

Chances of a mod for that coming to console? I can't really think of a reason why something like that wouldn't be given the OK.

The AI is all over the place in this game. Sometimes mobs can see you while hidden from what seems like a mile away, other times I kill a whole room of people make huge noise and the people int he next room go "what was that?, did you hear something?" and dont even go investigate.

Yeah, I'm sick of the AI seeing me magically.

I'm like level 7 and I've played for 3 hours at best?

IDIOT SAVANT with 1 INT seems quite broken, lol.

10 LUCK build will pay off, I'm sure.

What's the deal with the "Ghoul/Raider Trouble at X" missions? Are they endlessly regenerated or is there an end game to that stuff?

Pretty sure I've just been given a mission to clear a location of Ghouls that I've already done. Made me question if they're worth my time or if they're just a random, endless regeneration.

Spent 20 something hours in the game and I finally had to ditch my male character, I just couldn't handle that voice anymore. The female character already feels like a massive improvement.

You can completely customize the look of your character right, I must of messed up because I chose a preset to start with and wanted to start from there but they only let me make minor changes...

I'm blown away by some of what you people are making.

Also I tossed a bunch of stuff on Deadmeat one item being a teddy bear, he played with it for a moment much to my surprise.

I think thats just a canned animation, or at least if you have a teddy bear. I never put any on him (I have picked some up) and he did it to me

Apparently some quests are timed. Found out about this when one of those prompts that disappear way too quickly suddenly flashed by saying "Running out of time..expedition (or some such)...Sanctuary Hills". And I was like say what now? Since there's no way of checking what it said or meant, I guessed it was in reference to a quest that had "Sanctuary Hills" in the title. So I trekked over to this Cour Manor or whatever to find a locked Master door. Fast traveled back to Sanctuary, slept, and then the quest failed. Didn't feel like rolling back the hours needed to put those points into Lockpicking instead, and so now my Sanctuary people throw occasional shade at me and I'm mildly concerned about having missed out on something cool.

So that sucked. How are you supposed to know when a quest is timed? I can't recall the game ever telling me, until it was way too late. It also sucked because it forces you to upgrade your character in this specific way within a certain time period. Gating quests like this feels shit. And I think this was the third one in a quest line.
---

My character's never going to wear any of these resistance-less clothes, so thank goodness you can still do something useful with them. Such as for instance Dr. Chef here.
And this curious fella.

Accidentally click the touchpad on DS4 while using PipBoy, and the camera zoom in for a closer look. Right On.

Does the game mention this anyway?

For those who does stealth builds, how do you manage guoul mobs?

The whole fusion core thing takes away from the fun of a power armor. You can't explore in it which sucks.

Detection is absolutely the biggest problem I'm having with the game so far.

I'm being shot at: Piper: "I think I hear something..."

I'm shooting at enemies: Raider the next room over: "Must have been nothin"

I turn a corner in power armor and am standing right next to a gunner. I back up, and not even a detected. Totally hidden.

Every human is deaf and blind in the Commonwealth.

The whole fusion core thing takes away from the fun of a power armor. You can't explore in it which sucks.

There would be no reason to not use the power armor except it makes it slightly harder to sneak if it didn't require power.

Plus there's tons of fusion cores. I am in power armor 100% of the time in the field and have 5 stocked up.

Anyone have a turret bug out in their town after an attack? I have one firing two days later. I've went through. repaired them all, put them in my inventory, etc. Even when they aren't out, it is still firing.

This occured in Sanctuary and you can hear the turret at the vault :/

Might have to move all my people to another town.

Interesting, hope someone chimes in.

I dunno if anything I feel like the base time on a Fusion Core might be too long. I explored for a pretty long ass time the other day and wound up like net negative only one unit. I am about thirty hours in and I still have like 16 units at my disposal. I could easily spend the next 10 hours in power armor with no risk of running out I am pretty sure.

Thing is some perks don't work inside PA (like Lifegiver regen) and between being slower and having wack stealth chance I've not used it in a while.
