How does assigning people to food work? I have planted a ton of food, but it didn't really seem to be bringing up my food resource. I do have one guy assigned to food. What am I missing?

Hellloooooo

Welcome from Destiny land! I agree completely about the gunplay and the UI. Very difficult to manage coming from a year of playing Destiny. I think the best thing to do to help yourself is immediately start modding your weapons and armor. Also don't be afraid to pop some Med-X ans Psycho during fights to help give you the edge. In Destiny we are always in constant fear of using something we might lose and never get back, precious resources. Don't worry about that too much here, use whatever you have at your disposal because more and better will come later.

I am a heavy user of VATs and Drugs in this game, it gets me through the sloppy gunplay.

Your workshop bench will store all your goods and so far my settlement with 10 defense has kept it safe for 20+ hours of gametime. You can only access it from that settlement unless you establish trade routes. I suggest not getting hung up on the minutia early on in the game and get some missions done before you start deciding how you want to define your play style. Much like Destiny I've basically made a 10mm Fatebringer and have relied on that and it's done pretty good with some perks boosting non-automatic pistols. It's definitely not a run and gun type of game, use VATs and don't be afraid to run from encounters.

now that I have a whole collection of power armor frames -- is there any way to give them to your companions? what if you buy one and get the inventory item?

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but on PC, when building in your settlement, you can hold down E and move around the mouse to move the piece you have selected without moving your character.

Really handy.

After food is grown assigning them to another crop should work

EDIT: I think this has to be done for each individual crop. I tend to keep all my food consolidated; it can get hectic if everything is spaced far apart.

Loving the game so far, two questions, if I may. Is there a way to keep track of your companion locations? & Is there a way to auto assign staff to duties within your settlement?

Huh. Fallout just crashed to the PS4 home screen on me.

It's also a bit weird how the system has made multiple auto saves.

Game wise, I had my first radiation storm earlier. Are the NPCs meant to just act like nothing's happening?

30-odd hours into the game

and I'm just now realizing that on PC, the 'E' key advances to the next page in terminal logs.

All this time I was wondering why so many logs seemed cut off.

Jesus Christ.

Anyways, I like how the writing is a lot more grounded in this game than in Fallout 3. I'm not two rooms into Vault
114
and a single terminal log has me more creeped the fuck out than most Vaults in Fallout 3 and New Vegas did. Not because of experiments, or mutations, but because
of how callously Vault-Tec viewed those under it's 'protection'. They're taking people who they know will have no other option but them for survival, and subjecting them to lies and strange cruelties, without even a hint of a second thought.

I was exploring Dunwich Borers, this was sick.

Can someone explain to me
what is going on down there? People got crazy by some kind of curse? Saved by the light? I mean, what about those allucinations?

heyt what difficulty are you playing on ghal?

Default. I was expecting to bump it up a bit - played Skyrim a notch below the hardest setting the whole time - but this feels pretty good right now.

Thanks for the info folks, good to know my crap is safe in the workshop. I'll find a new home for it this weekend.

Yep, same exact thing happened to me after about 20 hours. Up until that point I'd just been assuming that the logs were cut off due to the nuclear war starting or something. They really should have some kind of onscreen prompt for that.

The RNG rolls for legendary are weird. I got tons of crap one like an aluminium rolling pins that damages limb and some pea shooters that regenerates AP. Then I got some Irradiated Flame thrower that does 15 DPS of flame and 150 DPS of Rads.

Man im just getting to a point where i dont know what to do. Im also really not into this "protect the settlement" aspect of the game as i feel it puts pressure on me as a gamer to force my hand rather than explore the wilderness.

Im 20 hours in and have yet to touch Preston's stuff. He's still asking me to clear out areas and I just tackled the drive in thratre (starlight).

Then as i went back to see if i could get further into the covenent mystery, i get a note that twilight settlers or whatever have been attacked.

Not fun.

What was fun was taking my lvl 15 character and treking all the way down to the southwest portion of the map. Yikes. Found a cool gun tho and a secret abandoned house.

But really, i really fucking hate building a settlement. 20 hrs in and i dont have concrete to make a water well or whatever they want at sanctuary
So just ignore it? I only built something in Sanctuary and ignored the rest (even sent settlers that I could send away to sanctuary from other settlements). After 50h I have been attacked for the first time at a remote settlement I don't care about. Went there to see how a raider attack actually looks like.

Are there any special uses for the vault tec lunch box?
Bottlecap mines

One of the first settlements finally got raided when I was in Sanctuary. A message popped up saying it was under attack by raiders. So, I immediately fast traveled there and was able to fend them off.

Just thought you guys might want to know it's possible to take action on those.

Did a quest that resulted in me getting like 50+ of each of the main chems to "sell."

More like I just assigned myself a goddamn Bullet Time hotkey with how much Jet I'm going to be taking.

Goddamn, faced my first Sentry Bot yesterday. They could be quite painful in the previous games, but here they are straight up scary. Wasted tons of Energy ammo in order to defeat it :(

Anyone know how much the scavenging station brings in in terms of resources? Wish there was a log for each settlement to see how much food etc each settlement "earns".

I just did a 50+ hour playthrough to see the story ending (Ended at level 42) and only dabbled in the settlement stuff. I never once felt that it held me back or effected my experience.

FYI, while the 'protect _________ settlement can 'fail', it takes an extremely long time in game for that to happen. Also, if you don't listen to Freedom radio they don't come up really at all from what I can see.

Lol I just completed that one too. I kept trying to talk my way through it. Haven't used any chems yet, guess I might have to.

Oh man, WTF?

This part of town refuses to load correctly no matter what I do. What the eff, Bethesda? This is close from the DADTAL office. I paid $60 bucks to play a Megaman Legends look-a-like lol.

I'd taken the "less chances to get addicted" perk simply because I was munching Buffout all the time to avoid managing my inventory, and I got something else that increased how long chems last, so I decided to embrace fate and realize my PC is a junkie.

Some of the Chem perks and gear make them seem fairly powerful.

main story spoilers

I just did the mind melding quest in goodneighbor, where i explored the memories of kelogg. gotta say, i'm pretty impressed. all the dialogue in that sequence was notably better than anything i can remember bethesda ever doing - and it renewed my interest in the main story.

I'm lucky. Every time a settlement of mine gets attacked I happen to be there already :x

well and I've got seven sets of Power Armor - one for me, and one standing by the 'main' guard post of each of my settlements, ready to help its wearer fend off any mutant bastards in my absence.

I've got a suit of Power Armor on top of the Red Rocket (by the rocket, where I also have a guard post), and last time the place was attacked, the guy who runs the bar there hopped in it, leapt the fuck off the roof (to an incredibly satisfying animation and 'THUD'), and proceeded to beat the SHIT out of a Super Mutant.

What if Raiders steal them? :0

So the game just came in the mail today. After reading a lot of reviews , I'm having thoughts of returning the game. For those who played it, should I return it and re-buy it down the line?

Which version?

I'm having a ton of fun with the game despite performance issues, for what it's worth (and I haven't had any major bugs outside of Thicket Excavations being weird and the Pip Boy not reacting well to Steam Community), but I'm also playing on PC.

welp, ended up resolving this by mistake. went to go salvage a frame + parts I knew about and as soon as I put the core in, freaking piper jumped in and stole it to chase after some radstags that weren't even attacking. Doesn't seem to be any way of getting her out of it either.

can't decide if I want to reload or just give her the pieces to complete the suit. I feel this is going to make the romance awkward

if you talk to her you can ask her to remove the power armor.

You can have companions enter Power Armor and you can also have settlement citizens enter it too. You don't even have to have them enter it - as long as there's a fusion core in it, when danger arrives, they'll hop right in.

Huh, I've just realised I haven't smoked since I've been off work playing Fallout 4. Like it wasn't intentional, I've just been that glued to playing I've not been tempted and the only reason I've noticed now is because its the third day and I've woken up feeling like utter shit since this is supposed to be the hardest day when quitting cold turkey.

Fuck it, I've come this far accidentally, going back to the wasteland and the only smokes I'll get are the ones in the game.

oh damn, how did I miss that. thanks
