I've never played a FO game before... And I'm having trouble getting a sense of what the gameplay feels like from watching and reading reviews... Can someone describe for me what the gameplay in FO4 is like? Thanks in advance!

Create a character. Can be a gunslinger, a scientist who builds robot turrets, a martial artist who blows people to chunks in one punch. Explore a massive open map filled with hundreds of explorable locations. Go into abandonned schools, churches, libraries. Whatever. Meet dozens of NPCs from (miniature spoilers)
irradiated zombie pirates to drunk Irish lady pitfighters
. Help them, or not. Whatever. It's your call. Or join a faction. Do their quests. Or just do whatever you feel like. It's open to you.

I can guess from the name what the scavenging station does when you assign a person to it, but does anyone know if the resources are automatically put into your workbench or you have to get them from someplace?

So how do I transfer a mod? I always seem to end up making a new one...

It's silly -- unless it's something that the gun can just have "none" of (like the muzzle), you have to build something to replace it with before you can put the mod into a different gun. So if you find a gun with an awesome receiver but not much else, you have to build a basic receiver, replace the good one with the basic one, and then insert the better mod into your gun of choice. The game REALLY needs an option to just dismantle a gun into its mods when you scrap it.

Under AID, I see things like Bloatfly Larva and Bleed Out Syringe and it's clear I better not use these on myself. A friend told me I need a weapon for this, but he's just assuming. If this was ammo, why isn't it under ammo? And... How to really use these?

There's a syringe rifle out there, so you can shoot these things at people.

"jeez lady, I like guns too, but you think you might be overcompensating there?"

I was walking around with my huge ass fully modded beast of a assault rifle lol. shit's huge. this game man...

also, Gun Nut 4, all the mods. ALL THE MODS!

also, 58 hours, level 40.

Is Vault 81 worth 3 fusion cores to enter (only have 4)?

both, both quest wise, local wise, and my best gun is STILL the one I bought there, and Ive had it for ages (its since been fully modded of course)

I just played Fallout 4 nonstop for 16 hours. I'm completely fucking addicted to the combat. I have a fully upgraded combat shotgun, 10mm pistol, and institute rifle, plus various sniper rifles, that can handle any situation with ease.

Except for super mutants. God damn are they tough in numbers. Currently stuck on the rooftop of Parkview Lounge; there's like 4 Super Mutant Brutes and 2 turrets in the same place. Also Cogsworth is MVP.

Which gun is it? Rifle, gun or automatic?

I have exactly zero idea how crafting works.

I don't know how people are making such awesome shit. My main problem is making edges. They always want to snap forward.

Is there any other way to dismantle stuff? I'm dropping it on the floor, then going into the workbench menu/mode to disable it.

The building is starting to really piss me off too. It's extremely picky about the placement and the connections of some pieces are shit (floors-walls across multiple levels). Trying to get copper, oil and certain other mats is proving difficult too.

Might just start again even though I'm lvl 19, the perk choices I've made are bad as are the starting SPECIAL stats. hmm.

This is why you get bloody mess.

Christ, I need that long barrel on my revolver

Still only have five .44 rounds :s

Any ideas on how to fudge the numbers to get more?

Found a laser pistol that I can upgrade to outperform the 10mm. It looks like shit though, so I'm sticking with the 10mm

How do you find out who isn't assigned to something in your settlement?

currently the only way is to hover over the settler and see what resources in your settlement get highlighted as well. Yes it's a terrible mechanic when they aren't near their resource.

you don't have to scrap junk! it will automatically scrap from the workbench

weapons and armor you can scrap from the crafting stations

you never need to drop items to scrap

Yeah, the auto-placement sucks. Try using a junk fence ( the tall, narrow one with the tires one one side, I think it's the 3rd of 4th one along), this allow you to place a wall coming off of it from any angle.

This is weird, i currently have problems with giving power to my lights inside the house i build, seems i need an actual generator and pylon that is close to them to power them on ?

How do i go about giving power around my house so i can power stuff inside without cluttering my outside area with pylons and generators ?
Attach a 'main switch' onto your structure, and attach to generator.

Then use conduits - place them over or near the rooms that need lighting.

EDIT: if you haven't already done so - you can also build a staircase to get on the roof - since everything can be moved, you only need to build one.

Adding to this, one of my turrets got damaged by a raider, but I have no idea which one. Any way of checking?

If they aren't moving it might be down, you can also go up to every turret and if it needs repair hitting the action button (X on ps4) will bring up a dialogue box that says "requires these mats to repair"

This is how I've been checking, tedious for sure because you have to remember where every single turret is.

Yeah, then I am tasked with building the standard mod. I know there's a way, because I accidentally got a mod or two, but I'll be damned if I know how.

If you find out, please let me know. Curious now.

They regen health on their own, no need to use stimpaks.

Fun fact: Dogmeat gets stunned and if you run up to him you can use a stimpack instead of waiting for the fight to be over (which is when he regens from being stunned).

My biggest gripe so far with the game is the lack of Settlement management. We need a nice menu with tons of stats, assignments, turret locations, etc.

Is that
Kellog's revolver?
If so, I am going to mod the fuck out of that beautiful giant gun of death. It looks so beautiful.

Also god damn. I am just lovin this game so much. It has its flaws of course, but I'm not even letting those bother me one bit. Hell I'm 36 hours in and the game hasn't even crashed on me once.

its nothing fancy, bonus against mirelurks and bugs of all things (lol) but its the first "special" automatic rifle I found and ive really been wanting to use that ammo since I have like 2k. It still rips apart humans and shit tho, shoots so fast. also looks huge in first person like I said

excuse the awful steam compression, just a quick and dirty job

Find a vendor (diamond city) buy all ammo then rest for 24hrs on a nearby bench.

You can also use a glitch doing the rounds and get the ammo for free but that's up to you.

Nope, was a t-60 for me.

You'll need to hurry, I'm level 34. :p But I don't need to know if it's too spoilerific.

It's just a secret little area in the glowing sea, there's power armor there but it can either be the best armor in the entire game, or the other armor, the other armor has always been the t5 for me.

it may still vary around your level im unsure but the 3 times i have tried at different levels it has been t5

I hate that combat shotguns look like rifles. I want to find a special 2 barrel old fashioned shotgun, the one I have is just a "normal" one modded :/

So in perception VATS does the null sign mean enemies aren't affected by that type?

And the 1000 nuclear resistance on
ghouls
means they only get hurt a little?

Hello brokenbeans :D

Gonna be a while til I can use it then I guess, trying to do some decent exploration before getting to Diamond City, since I assume that I will get buried by quests and main plot advancement when I get there :P

Also trying to resrain myself from taking advantage of things like duping, using Dogmeat to open, glitch exploiting etc

I wanna earn my progression innit

I haven't even been that far south yet, hah. By the time I get there I hope I'll find that X armor, because look what I just found.

Nice. Sounds good. Hope to find it then :)

I just activated a Protectron and he asked me for a subway token. I do have one, but he said there was violent behaviour and started shooting at me. Why? I really didn't want to destroy little buddy but I had to.

Hello old friend!

It depends how deep you wanna get when in the city, I've only had one quest pop up since I strolled in to town.

I buy my stuff then leave and go about my business doing settlement quests and destroying beasts!

That happened to me as well. I don't remember if I had a gun out at the time or not. Also thought I junked it but it's a Misc Item I believe so I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that happen.

Is there a quick way of selling items which are in your workshop ? Seems a bit annoying if I have to transfer everything to myself (and companion) and then sell it from there. Due to the weight limit it would take multiple runs

Hopefully a mod comes out to improve that
