Steps on a mine -> Cripples leg -> Wobbles away to heal -> Notices a ghoul lunging towards me -> Turns around -> Steps on another mine -> Both die

DAMN YOU GHOULS

Is there a NG+?
I wanna do the other factions without remaking and doing all the other stuff.

no. You can keep playing after you finish it but I havent heard anything about NG+

You've got a bit to go!

really? I just went there and I thought I was nearing the end, er...story wise. Im nowhere near being done with it myself. neat.

Something's wrong.
I enjoyed my most recent quest and got
Strong
as a companion, so I dismissed Dogmeat to the Red Rocket Station. Then I decided to dismiss Strong to Drive-in theater and headed back to the Station to find Dogmeat.

But he didn't show up. I built a dog house and slept for a few days but nothing.
Is this a possible glitch?

The exact thing happened to me, I just quick traveled a bit and eventually be was at the doghouse.

I wish you could clip through Dogmeat. He can easily block doorways.

You too can experience what it's like to be one of the three stooges with dogmeat.

Does the story basically start @ Diamond City?

I can't think of any other game (minus a few handful) that I can play 26 hours of mostly optional content straight out of the gate and not even touch the main story.

I can't find Nick :(

He's not in his office. If I remember correctly, I "released" him as a companion, and told him to go somewhere, but I can't find him anywhere..

Aaargh..

So something I still haven't figured out is the little exclamation mark is for the Workshop data on the Pipboy. Does it just mean "make more of this even though you have enough"? Sometimes it just shows completely the wrong stats.

are you on PC?

if so, open the console, type in:

did the game fuck up my overseer's guardian or what. it's supposed to shoot 2 bullets ''together'' or whatever that is but it doesn't, not anymore anyway.

That's the whole point of RadAway. It's the best implementation of radiation poisoning I've seen in a Fallout game. It just makes sense.
to me makes sense to have radiation separated from the HP pool, like it was in the previous games. and of course getting penalties or dying from it.
this is just more and unnecessarily annoying.

I'm glad I didn't let my initial disappointment sour my experience of the game. It's not perfect, but I'm getting the same happiness I got with Fallout 3 out of the game now. The first hour or so is a slog, but when it clicks it does so in a big way. I think the game also puts new players at a massive, massive disadvantage in terms of resources. I am currently swimming in ammo and stimpaks.

Okay im gonna say it ,
ghouls are bloody OP as hell.
their lunge is faster than what a vats slowdown can even make up for. ive been slapped so many times now.
its just better to go the traditional zombie killing melee route with them.

I am. Thanks.

New to PC gaming, and have never used a console before.

So, I should open the console with ~ and type in prid 00002f25, press Enter, and then type in movetoplayer? Is that correct?

56 stimpacks

i switch b/w my sniper 300 ammo, laser pistol 600+ ammo, burst fire pistol 1200+ ammo and shotgun ~280 ammo.

scavenger +high luck is broken.

only problem I have with ghouls is that when you see one, maybe two, you think "oh it's ok, not hard to kill" but then while in VATS you realize that there are suddenly 50 of them coming at you from everywhere, and then you start running.

Mama Murphy
died, how long until they fucking go back to be ''happy''?

- is there any major missable quest?
* anyone?

Slightly Dumb Question. Which would do more, a Weapon that does +25% damage, or a weapon that ignores 30% of the target's Armor. Don't really know how the damage formula works.

Also, I swear my best weapon has to be a 10mm automatic pistol that sets the target on fire for 15 damage a shot. That fire damage must just ignore armor, since the thing tends to be more effective then any non-legendary automatic weapon, even the Gatling Gun.

There are 3 types of damage: ballistics, energy, and radiation. Each enemy has different defenses to each type which you can see if you select a certain perk. Super Mutants, for example, are strong against ballistics, weak against energy, and immune to radiation (duh). A lot of early game enemies are weak to energy so lasers and fire damage tend to punch above their weight class.

I believe that the game uses a Damage Threshold system where the damage done is equal to the damage from the attack minus the armor rating for that damage type though I think every attack does a very small amount of minimum damage.

Oh also, and I'm probability in a minority here; despite being fun games to just explore and wander, aesthetically and stylistically I find Bethesda's famed open worlds to be massively overrated. Fallout 4 to me has no natural believability to most of the landmass. The density of locations means there's no real negative space. There's no coherent flow between set pieces and points of interest. It's like a hundred different points of interest that range from forgettable to interesting made by different people and then all slapped together in a grid. Bringing it up is beating a tired horse, but Wild Hunt really spoiled me in this regard.

It works for Fallout 4 for me. Irrespective of real world geography (I have no idea how close Lexington is to Boston in real life), I feel like they do a good job representing the density of the modern world with a huge central city, small suburbs surrounding it, office parks and industrial sectors, etc radiating out from there. For a modern/day future world like Fallout the amount of negative space feels believable to me. Whereas the exact same amount of negative space in The Witcher 3 would have bothered me.

Surprised how fun the combat is. Vats has always been a pretty fun mechanic, but man, taking half of a feral ghoul's head off in a slow motion cinematic just as he's about to pounce is pretty damn satisfying.

Also, for all the shit Bethesda gets, they do the exploration aspect of open worlds better than anybody else. Show the whole map from the start, don't highlight any locations but have them pop up on your radar if you come within range. It really makes you feel like you're exploring this big mysterious landscape and gradually getting to know the world. I honestly wish all open world games would copy it.

moveto player, its 2 words. basically the first command spawns nick, the second puts him next to you

and yes. on my keyboard my console opens with "ç" but whatever works for you

does anyone know if Curie SPOILERS
becoming human, well, a human looking synth anyway
is the end of her companion quest? she made it sound like theres more, but it might also just mean "yeah ill still hang out with you if you want"

Bethesda went a little overboard with ghouls and using them quite liberally.

Just shoot their legs out. Legit some of the easiest enemies once you start targeting limbs.

Actually, targeting the torso for any enemy is less effective than limbs.

Yeah... melee is the best way for me to handle ghouls if close range though they do go down really fast when being snipped. I cleared the train yard with almost one shot per ghoul.

Have not been keeping up much with the threads but does anyone else have issues with random lockups with audio bugs, resulting in having to hard reset the computer? Have not been able to find any solutions via Google.
Other then this I have not had any major issues with the game, it runs well on ultra settings and I'm really enjoying it. Haven't reached diamond city even after 10 or so hours but I guess that's pretty normal.

Once you level up a bit and get a good weapon like a Combat Rifle, shooting Ghouls in the leg becomes nothing more than target practice.

I really have no idea why they felt like they needed to have the game take place 200 years after the bombs.

It takes place in an entirely different part of the country from fallout 1/2 so there's no way they would even know what's going on over there.

The idea that 200 year old instant mashed potatoes, soda, and apples are edible or even would be readily available is crazy.

The idea that none of the trees would have grown back in 200 years is stupid.

200 years ago there were no buildings, roads, railroads, or anything but native americans in 75% of the area now known as the united states.

This is just such a stupid plot point and I cannot understand why they feel it's necessary to go so far away from the bombs but still be tied to the pre-war stuff.

I love the game but the creators of the original fallout had enough sense to be one or two generations removed from the war.

Holy hell. What's your play style?

How did you rack up so much?
Lol I got like 150 stim packs and an average of 400-500 of any ammo that isn't .44.

I got high luck and I stealth when applicable, when I get hurt I usually heal with food for the minor things and only use stimpacks when I'm about to die or a limb might break.

Didn't like Fallout 3 or New vegas much. Loving Fallout 4. But, I am almost overwhelmed by how much there is to do.

I havent even been to Diamond City yet, but have done enough of the Minutemen Missions that Garvey wants
to go to the Castle to retake it,
but its so far Southwest that I can't seem to get there. Trying to go through the city area has been a colossal drain on my ammo, and after 2 hours and countless deaths, I'm thinking that I may not be high enough level to get there at 12.

Also, the relay beacons that unlock distress signals have so much static that I cant hear them, is there a way to amplify them or do you have to just listen SUPER close?

Agh, I should do this more. I have like a shitload of purified water and food too.

Fallout enemies don't scale to level. So going South the enemies get harder.

I wish I had thought to do this.
You know you can change the way your character looks in diamond city there is a doctor there when you head forward towards the little cooking robot and make a right there will be a door there with a doctor sign on it, head in (During the day unless he wont be there) and there you have it

A bit late to the party. I'm on PC and with a X360 controller. The camera randomly stutters when I look to the sides while moving. Can this be fixed?

I'm really liking the companions in this, I stepped on a mine today at the National Guard place and Piper out of no where says 'Blue.. you ok?' .. thought that was a nice touch. Looking forward to getting the other companions.

I'm a little confused, sturgess is telling me Garvey wants to talk to me after doing the opening sanctuary quest line that revolves around defenses and resources, but when I talk to Garvey he has nothing to say to me?

I caved and bought this yesterday. Realllly liking it so far. I had FO3 once, but it felt overwhelming and I stopped playing it.

I've only made as far as Concord and retrieved my first power armor. Anyone have some advice for a newcomer?

Also, I wish this game had co-op. Exploring dungeons and base building would have been totally awesome with it.

Where can I get the
brotherhood
skin suit? I see some people wearing it, but I haven't found it yet on my game except on one NPC.

Russian modder began overhauling dialogue UI. If you have the Russian language pack and can speak (there is a way in comments to make it work with any language) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/619/?

One day we will have:

a) List-based dialogues like older Fallouts (like this mod shows).
b) Since subtitles exist in game, modders can rewrite dialogue options/questions based on summary of what will be said like older Fallouts.
c) Do Intelligent stat check with certain dialogue instead of just Charisma. Not as important since Fo3 and F:NV also used Charisma a lot, intelligence and sneak were much less used.

The game (not so apparent immediately when you start), has a lot of choices that do have impacts on the game quite heavily, even side quests with choices can even change the way the side quest works (like giving an Optional objective based on certain dialogue exploration/choices), the dialogue isn't as bad as people make it out to be if you only judge the beginning. If Bethesda just kept it list-based, made the options a summary of what you're going to say instead of words like previous games, there would have been way less criticism of the dialogue. Thankfully it seems mods will fix that in the future.

Can't wait until I get the GOTY edition for PC when it comes out. The mods are gonna make stuff so much better.

Figured id ask again:

Can I have one settler do multiple tasks with no ill effects? Say work food (crops) and a store?! Thanks!

I am interested too... Also when you have multiple crops near to each other it seems that assigning a settler to one crop is enough and he will work on the other ones around, can you confirm?

My plan:

%100 vanilla on PS4. Learn everything then new PC next year with mods.

Will be GLORIOUS to see how many mods will be out by next year. It'll be like Fallout 4.5 rofl

I agree. I really like how the map feels in this game, especially compared to Fallout 3. I never felt like there was a true "urban" area in 3, and DC proper didn't feel too much different from the rest of the world. The subways felt very same-y and cities/town areas felt like typical game towns where the inhabitants were basically there to service the player. But in 4, exploring Boston proper feels very different from exploring the outer reaches of the map due to the verticality of locations and just how densely packed the area is. And Diamond City feels like it exists as an ecosystem without the player's involvement.
