Yakuza 5 releasing DECEMBER 8, 2015

Damn it, dat bump.
Yeah this probably isn't coming out this month. Maybe a "And its out now!" thing at PSX
with the Yakuza 0 localization announcement

Hah, I'm just as disappointed as some of you :P Was hoping someone had seen some forgotten about tweet or something. Fingers crossed it comes out this month I suppose.

It's amazing how I completely forgot this game was still coming out. I don't know why it's so difficult to give a freaking release date.

Probably for the same reason XSEED was reluctant to give a release date for Trails: because localization difficulties could get in the way up to the last moment.

PSX is when ?

Perhaps a suprise, we are releasing Yakuza 5 today and also announcing Yakuza 0 is coming west in 2016 !

Was Western release announced at last year's PSEx? Could be a great way to launch it; Gio Corsi on stage again only this time it's to announce it being available right now. And obviously Western releases of Ishin, 0, HD remakes and 6. :P

I wish... they really missed the opportunity the relaunch and rebrand the saga in the west with Ishin smh

5th of December. I have been saying that SEGA will use the PSX to give Yakuza 5 a bit of exposure for no additional marketing expenses for a while now. I just did not want it to be true. Because I want the game NOW, but also because it could also mean they don't have anything else Yakuza-related to announce at PSX and they are saving the Yakuza 5 release date announcement to give us fans something there...

I was surprised it wasntannounced as a PS4 port considering 0 just came out on PS3 and 4 so I imagine their tools are built for both. Although I gotta imagine it was already expensive just getting it in English.

Hmm. Yeah, that makes sense to me. Though Sega themselves gave us the November release window...

Ngh! I'll be happy as long as we just get it.

Yeah they definitely were not going to port the game to the PS4 for the localization, that would be far more expensive and the western market just isn't worth the trouble for this franchise :( as for Japan, the game is like 3 years old for them, too new for a remaster and buried beneath 2 games at this point.

In Japan, the game was released two or three years ago. The next one released was actually Yakuza Ishin, a spin off about samurais. Think Samurai X the game.

Ishin was the first cross platform, then Yakuza 0.

They edited that part out and said they're no longer committing to the mid-November release window.

Did they? Not surprised.. we're beyond mid november now as far as releases are concerned.

Will be playing something else meanwhile. Guess I could continue my 0 save file.

I pre-ordered but in no rush to play this. One of those situations where it's been a few years anyway so no big deal to me. Plus already put 100+ hours into MGSV, not really keen on playing another over 50 hour game right now

I really wouldn't be surprised if this gets pushed back to spring/summer 2016. Releasing it this summer as they had originally planned would have been perfect, given that it wouldn't have had a lot of other titles to compete with for sales; but releasing it right now, especially with all these AAA heavy hitters coming out at the same time, would guarantee that the game would get slaughtered and lost in the shuffle, dooming it to the fate of every previous entry in the series.

Although it might suck for us, releasing it in a slower part of the year -- like in spring/summer -- might be in the best interest of the future of this series.

it is definitely not being released next year lol. sega's been streaming the nearly finished version and after the holidays the pool of people still on lastgen will be that much smaller.

Personally, I think this game is screwed regardless of when it releases. No marketing, dead platform and digital only.

The only reason to delay would be if they could also port it to PS4 or Steam.

Relasing the game right now is suicide.
We are all discussing about how the poor release timing contributed to kill Tomb Raider's sales....and it's still a new mainline next gen episode in the TR series.
Games like DQH sold 31k in the October NPD...a new PS4 game.
What is gonna happen to this? A niche PS3 only, digital only game...people are just too busy buying and playing other games atm.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed until January with a final release date announced at PSX.

It's not suicide to release it now because only the Yakuza fans were gonna buy it and they're going to buy it anyway. This is more for the fans than anything else, it's not going to bring in new people to the series.

Yea they are going to have the Giocorsi 3rd party relations section of the conference. They might just reveal another Yakuza Localization and say Yakuza 5 is out now.

I was really hoping it would be out today, or better yet last week so there'd still be a slight chance to finish it before Xenoblade CX drops in 2 weeks.

sega marketing dudes stated on one of the streams that the game's release date would be revealed unceremoniously and immediately before it is available for download. they just want to finish the game and get it in your hands.

Relasing the game right now is suicide.

We are talking about a 3 years-old niche download-only game released with close-to-zero marketing for an outphased console.

Pretty sure they are not expecting millions in sales (or they are very naive).

Yakuza 5's target audience will buy this game regardless anything else released in the same window, and the rest won't even know it exists...With a considerable amount of luck some other people will buy when it gets a price cut/free on a PS+ sale or hear from some friend...

Game is dead regardless of when it releases. The only people who'll buy it are the ones who know about it and intend to purchase it already.

I imagine a not-insignificant percentage of its customers have already pre-purchased the game, especially considered it has been available for purchase at a discounted price for months.
