this is getting fucking ridiculous. Now somebody has gone to my comic book rack where I kept all of them neatly stacked and decided that fuck you I'm going to leave a bunch on the floor instead of putting them back up.

Bethesda the fuck is with this AI. Deacon i swear to god don't touch my graphic novels.

All I know is next person that fucks with me and i find out I'm going to murder in their sleep.

Literally, I have Sandman. Don't fuck with me.

LMAO

Does anyone know how to move while in building mode?, my movements are bound to the arrow keys, is this the problem?

7:55am, Monday morning. After three 12 hour shifts this weekend I can finally dig in (at least before I fall asleep at my desk), here we go.

I had a BoS helicopter crash land on top of my head earlier, it was unreal

vertibirds kind of super suck for combat. The enclave had the better idea, as they used them to drop enemies on you and then GTFO. of course I still had enough time to destroy them with my a3-21 rifle because they are fragile as fuck

maxson seems to not have seen the fights with the enclave and trusted on their "air superiority"

For the fans of Fallout 1/2 and New Vegas:
Is this game fun for you, or is it too shallow?

I'm kinda interested jumping in, but I'm contemplating waiting for some mods to fix the shallow dialogue.

it is insanely shallow. think more 'borderlands' than NV or FO1/2 and you'll get a clearer picture of the gameplay/char build flow and the scope of your interaction with the world. your choices rarely matter and there is no real major differentiation between builds in terms of changing up how you can approach quests. the number of speech checks is laughable and for the ones that are there, the effects for succeeding at them is ultimately a simple bypass of content or negligible.

however, the core gameplay is quite fun and the world is extremely well built in terms of theme park design- there's a density to it that is actually overwhelming to a degree. now, most of it is ultimately used for MMO-style quests/design in terms of respawning and whatnot but the number of unique areas and the level of detail put into each of them is genuinely impressive.

i can't imagine mods really fixing the shallow dialogue system because the writing itself is quite droll- there's some entertaining stuff here and there but nothing particularly great. ultimately it's not much of a change from the fo3 status in that department beyond the actual 4 arrows system and questions advancing dialogue.

there's not much left of the classic fallout/'rpg' formula in this game, for better or for worse depending on who you're asking. bethesda definitely sought to streamline and modernize the game for a modern audience and it shows. they played to their strengths and i'd imagine that most folks who came in with fallout 3 will absolutely love this game because fo4 is a very strong step forward for the strengths of that game.

ok, im starting to wonder where i will find a good, solid sniper rifle?
Im now lvl 20 and by now i have found a couple of solid combat shotguns, even some that where allready modded in the best possible way (for me). So im covered there.
But Im still running arround with that makeshift pipe rifle that I modded for long range shots.
When will i get a proper sniper rifle? I allready found some but these have all been a disapointment in damage, distance and precision (my pipe gun that i found at lvl3 is better in every aspect).

You can make one if you've found any of the kind of 0.308 caliber rifle. Just add a longer barrel, a better scope and a better receiver to improve damage. Need Gun Nut level 2 tho for the good scopes

Managing resources and inventories gets quite tedious after a while, at least the way I'm playing it. Hauling stuff back and forth between settlements and companions/pack mules. So I started cheating. It's fun to write "bat mats".

You lose part of the loot aspect, but eh.

Anyone else getting gems like this on their xbox one copy ?
I had a pixel inflation just like that on my PS4 near Diamont City. But my giant square sheets of orange fabric were transparent. :D

Also I noticed other performance problems here and there. Even a hard crash once. Still loving the game. A patch or five would be welcome, though.

What should I do with the useless (outdated) weapons ?
- Scrap
- Put then on my workbench
- Sell

I scrap them, I havent found anything worth buying yet, I am level 25 with 6000caps so selling for 30 caps is pointless. I do a lot of gun tinkering though, so I need them screws.

Think I'm pretty far along and have run into a bit of an issue: I don't like any of the factions. Bethesda needs to add a "conquer every other faction and build your own from the ashes" option in their games going forward. I want to be emperor of the greater boston co-prosperity sphere.

How long should it be taking for new settlers to start showing up? I have a huge surplus of food, water, beds, shops and a tower, yet it seems as though only one new person shows up a month. I've been sitting at 10 people for what seems like an eternity.

Have you a signal tower? Also your defence needs to be close to your food and water total.

well said. I am downloading FO2 right now from GOG. I guess another good thing about FO4 is that it makes me want to play FO2. Again.

I thought defense only needed to be close to your supply to keep attackers at bay, not to bring in more people. And yes, I have a tower. It's even in what you quoted.

Damn for some reason I didn't see the tower part it increases the settlements happiness. But yeah my food/ water combines to 76, but my defence is 81. I have 18 settlers so far, but then I have max Charisma.

I just got to the point where the
BOS airship arived
Will quests fail/become unavailable when I meet
The BOS Boss
? Seems like a point of no return type thing.

Explored a very strange building today. You enter into it from a street, then it's kinda like a maze with traps set in it. You follow a bunch of street signs that point you in certain directions. Some lead to dead ends. Then you find about 20 scales( the kind you weigh yourself on) on the ground, and right behind them are a bunch of grenades hanging from strings on the ceiling. Followed by a room full of those little robot monkeys. Then you eventually find a
Christmas Tree decorated with lights
that is being guarded by a turret gun. Right after that I got killed by
a legendary ghoul of some sort

Nice, where was that at? Sounds pretty cool.

I'm in a pickle.

I'm only level 9, It's my first Fallout game and I'm debating whether to start again...

Before I started I thought I was going to play as a stealthy sniper. But now I've started - I've realised that's not my playstyle in this particular game. I'm more of a shoot what's in front of me and deal with the consequences.

everytime I get a level up perk - I (pressumingly stupidly) put the perk to unlock a new Special perk instead of leveling up the perks I already have unlocked.

So, I'm level 9, have 10 Intelligence and I'm so weak in gun fights. Did I mess up? should I just truck on and deal with my mistake of perk distribution or restart? I've only really done about 4 main story missions so It probably won't be that much of a ball ache

You can if you want. I started with 9 int, 9 luck, and pumped points into charisma and a couple into perception before I took any perks. I didn't spec in any gun perks until about 30 hours in. I didn't have a difficult time tho. Just pick up guns and stuff, pop some chems maybe, use everything you have in your inventory. Taking the power armor helps too.

Really funny and sad story about a master lock.

So earlier I climbed a giant construction site killing super mutants on the way, on the top I jumped over to a highway overpass and at the end of the highway where it was blown up and drops off to 100 feet below there was a truck with a Master locked door. A few levels later I unlocked the master lock picking and went back. I unlock the door after skilled lock picking and inside was......4 shotgun shells.

What are the rest of your stats? I think most builds can be adjusted on the fly, the game chucks points at you

I kinda did the same. Started sneaky sniper, and then later bought 2 Cha and 1 End to get me to the point I can really make use of settlements and power armor, two things I never thought I'd be into.

What you should remember is:
1. If your character is weak in straight up combat, you can always climb into power armor to even the odds. It turns a sneaky character into a tank-like brawler with no points necessary.

2. There are bobbleheads for each attribute, giving you 1 permanent point. Don't put 7 points in a stat to get the seventh perk. Put 6 points, and count on the bobblehead.

but...

3. The game has no level cap. So you'll eventually be a master of everything. Don't stress about fucking up your character.

I'm level 19. I have 10 Charisma and 8 Intelligence and 8 strength. Just level up the base skills until you are happy.

Don't need to restart, the game was really really hard for the first 10-15 levels and now at 25 it is almost a breeze (survival difficulty) I dont have many points in damage skills. You can just throw a few in bloody mess.

Anyone playing a stealth sniper, what's the best weapon you have found? And, from what and where?

There's a combat rifle that fires two projectiles at once for sale in Vault
81
. Otherwise, if you find a hunting rifle/combat rifle you can just mod the hell out of it to make it rain death from afar.

Sniper rifle from a gunner camp on the highway in the west half of the map. Made it much better with modding. Once you can, mod it to .50 cal. A sniper rifle is just a hunting rifle with stock, barrel and receiver mods beyond a certain point.

Gauss Rifle. Can't remember where I got it. Hits like a truck, can be used to snipe. Very rare, but perhaps the most damaging weapon the game barring legendaries.

So did I. In the middle of a conversation.

Is it even possible to get it out? It seems like it is, may just have a low chance? I have tried like 30 times. It looks lootable but struggles to pick it up. :(
Lmao. I love that Bethesda put this in. This is probably the 5th post like this that I read.

And no, it's not possible. Why would you want 200 year old food anyway? :p

They move further apart depending on how well you are hidden.

This also applies to Danger and Caution--you can see when an enemy is getting close to finding you while in Caution, or if the enemy has lost track of you while in Danger. It's subtle and neat.

This is why I play without companions (for a while)

Bad dog!

Once Dogmeat ran through a laser tripwire and I was all NOOOOOOOOOOO and then it didn't trigger, so I assumed Bethesda made it so that companions couldn't trigger traps. I guess I was wrong?

Made my own out of a random drop Rifle (those with a Star) that never has to reload.
Waiting for GUN NUT 3 to put a silencer on that thing and never be seen again.

(Was able to craft a Gun with a silencer already at lvl 2 of Gun Nut. Normal Super Mutants die with one surprise head explosion)

Yeah, it's a neat feature, shame it took me 2 and a bit games to find it out!!!
