Disgaea PC [coming February 2016]

Holy shit! This is one I really wanted but didn't think would ever actually happen. Day. Fucking. One.

This needs to do well enough for the rest of the series to follow. It needs to.

xBRZ in all its glory, folks:

Cool that they are doing the Idea Factory International approach and releasing the games sequentially. Definitely seems like a good idea.

I hope the Prinny games show up sometime.

I'm not really seeing the decline in the US. And I agree, they are expanding the userbase. But it's not as if the PC version is going to pull in drastically more numbers.

It's likely going to be 1:1 with the PS4 sales. Which is a huge userbase for titles like this that shouldn't be missed out. The PC market has proven itself.

Doesn't matter, current sales were unsustainable for them. They would die without an significant uptick.

I pray keyboard and mouse support is good. It seems to me like this kind of tactical strategy interface would greatly benefit from well designed KnM controls. In fact, let us control the camera freely.

Japanese developers need to start bringing tactical RPGs to PC. They need to realize how much of a market for turn-based games already exists on PC. Arguably it's healthier than the western console market for turn-based games. This is a good start, we just need to get Square Enix on board.

Meanwhile, I bought a copy of Afternoon of Darkness years ago and never got around to it. Now I don't know what to do.

Eh, it can look good depending on the game. Of course for some game you will prefer nearest upscaling, but for some others, xBRZ works pretty well.
The thing is, using nearest neighbour sampling on low res 2D sprites embedded in a high-res 3D rendered environment will look terrible. Even more terrible than the current bilinear approach.

For the people who hate reconstruction filters for some reason you can at least provide the option of bicubic upsampling.

A quality game can't do well without people being "starved" for it?

Of course it can, but my point was, that people were wanting a game like this, and that obviously helped with it being a success on top of great word of mouth

You don't have to be so touchy, this is the second time you've done that

Perfect move for NIS. Now only Gust has to follow and all sensible small Jp. publishers will be on Steam. Maybe someday Atlus will wisen up, too.

Made too much sense. Took a bit too long, but I hope it does well. Good thing they're starting with the first one.

PC: you like money?
Atlus: Nah fam

Essentially. It's blown my mind that Sega hasn't stepped in and asked/told Atlus they want to port Persona 5 to Steam and they'll have the Total War/European PC team help them port it.

In any case, I hope one of the first mods is someone being able to convert the PSP save files over to the PC format.

Gust games already run poorly on consoles.

I fear how a Tecmo Koei PC port of them would turn out

On the one hand I'd love for this to happen (Gust), but fantastic games like the Atelier series getting TK-quality ports would be a crime against humanity.

I'm not "touchy" at all, I just think about word choices and try to find out the reasoning behind them.

Bought a PS4 for Disgaea 5 and absolutely loved it! Hopefully this brings more fans to the Disgaea series. Honestly though, I couldn't go back to one after 5, so this is a good start for newcomers. I have a feeling they'll be testing the waters to see how well this does on PC first.

And Disgaea 5 didn't exactly bomb on PS4. Needless to say it actually did pretty darn well.

Both game itself and season pass charted. I believe it fared a lot better than its Japan counterpart.

I don't expect massive sales from this release, but I do expect the extra money to help Nippon Ichi

Oh god, this is awesome.

Now please sell well enough to get NIS to put all of the series on Steam, that would be amazing.

How can you hate Valvatorez?

More importantly, how can you like that shithead from 3?

Thats the exact reason, he's a shit head, and he learns to be less of a shit head. Thats sort of my favorite characters in these games. Valvatorez.....kinda was done as a character, its like if they made master roshi the protagonist. He's good I don't care about him. But I wanna see these shit kids get hit the face by reality and forced to change as a person to get what the want. It was shitty playing through that game and just passing by folks like " damn why the hell you ain't the main character and I gotta listen to this dude and his boyfriend talk about sardines and shit"

Well, they've delayed Persona 5 so many times that maybe sometime before it comes out, they'll announce a PC version.

The thing is, Sega has been pretty hands off in regards to Atlus. Which is good in a "don't mess with the mojo" way. But frustrating in a "we want you to port your stuff to PC so we can support you, stupid" way.

But speaking of Sega: I'm still waiting on Val Chron 2-3 to hit Steam.

Buying for the nth time.

Holy hell if you told me 2 or 3 years ago that Steam would be getting so much Japanese support like it is now, I'd never have believed it.

I love Disgaea 3's MC actually, one of my favorites. Christo takes the spot as my favorite though currently ;p

Maybe they'll do it themselves. Grandia II did just that with the Dreamcast version.
This is based in the PSP version, right?

I've been reading for years on gaf that these types of games only find success on Nintendo platforms, what a mistake this will be. Should just port it to <insert Nintendo platform of choice here> instead then do another port to the Blockbuster, generation defining NX when it releases.

Glad the series is hitting PC now tho, for real.

Hooray!

Easily my favorite cast and story in the series. Hope this does as well as Valkyria Chronicles did, the niche is definitely there on Steam. Good for them for putting some effort into this release too.

I can't believe it's actually happening, holy shit.

Hope this sells well, and means more of the series comes over.

You think too hard about them. Calm down a bit guy.

I wish your preferred way of playing games all the success. I'm not that type of 'warrior', so don't worry about it

In any case, I vastly prefer xBRZ over what they use in Disgaea PC:

For real? Red Magnus for life. Christo's got nothing on him. NOTHING!

You will pay, PAY!! >:) You have no idea who you're up against ;)! haha

But yeah, Nippon Ichi should realize there is a market for their games in NA. Just because of one flop on steam shouldn't stop them from releasing more games on the platform. If Disgaea 5 sold well on PS4 in north america, this should do pretty well. Hopefully.

I just know personally I can't play Disgaea 1 after playing 3,4, D2, 5 and playing it like 5 times before on a Playstation 2, PSP, and DS lol.
