Disgaea PC [coming February 2016]

In any case, I vastly prefer xBRZ over what they use in Disgaea PC:

That shit on the right is unacceptable.

Maybe if Persona 5 was only launching on PS3 i'd understand the comment about modern resolutions, but 1080p is still a pretty relevant resolution. Especially for gaming. 4k won't be mainstream for a while i'd think, especially for modern titles.

Your preferences. For me, the left is too blurry. It's not like having choice between all three filtering would be bad anyway.

It's also about IQ. Zestiria is 1080p on PS4 and has a bad IQ.

Thats the exact reason, he's a shit head, and he learns to be less of a shit head. Thats sort of my favorite characters in these games. Valvatorez.....kinda was done as a character, its like if they made master roshi the protagonist. He's good I don't care about him. But I wanna see these shit kids get hit the face by reality and forced to change as a person to get what the want. It was shitty playing through that game and just passing by folks like " damn why the hell you ain't the main character and I gotta listen to this dude and his boyfriend talk about sardines and shit"

You'll be happy with Disgaea 5 then.

Just the first? :/

Already have that on both DS and PSP, so I'm not sure there's much point buying this for me tbh.

This is being overly optimistic but I really hope this doing well would lead to ports of NIS' ps2 back catalog. I missed out on a lot of them and would love for the chance to go back and play them without digging out my ps2 and finding copies.

Excited as the rest of everyone is, but this has the changes to healers being able to get XP by using spells right? I vaguely remember it being a super pain the first go around.

Wow, didn't expect that.
I hope sales are good and we get the rest of the games.

It's almost guaranteed. It should provide roughly the same userbase as the console counterparts.

Which means NIS can get to working on Disgaea 6 for PS4/PC and release it for when I'm finally done with D5.

I played Disgaea just to see what if it was what I remember it being after beating Disgaea 5.

Game does not hold up well at all.

I hope my PC bros and sisters get Disgaea 5, it truly is the culmination of everything Disgaea and is wonderful.

You should show the alternative, which is a shitty bilinear upscaling with broken transparency interactions:

It's not like we are talking about a "pure" 2D game here.

I would rather have the fuzzy edges and blurry sprites than what xBRZ does to them. The HP/MP/Resistance indicator text looks MUCH worse, and the number of screens in Disgaea games that are just numberssssss is going to represent the bigger source of eyestrain for me.

Hopefully there's enough cracks in the game files that modders can open up a new host of options, from varying filtering options to custom sprites if people really want it. We are talking about a game that came out on a console that was still getting plugged into standard definition TVs. It's the rough contrast between supersharp 3d objects and the now very zoomed in sprites that's the root cause of the problem.

This. No doubt, Disgaea 5 is absolutely gorgeous and stunning, I almost wish I hadn't played it cause Disgaea 1 still has my favorite plotline that I love to replay sometimes. (Ok maybe I don't wish that but for those interested in the Disgaea series after playing one, GRAB 5!)

It's also about IQ. Zestiria is 1080p on PS4 and has a bad IQ.

Hopefully then Atlus is more competent when it comes to giving us more than just throwaway scraps.

Arbitrarily locking Zestiria to 30 on PC even though it could run at 60(who knows, maybe it could on PS4 as well), just shows a lack of effort in general on their part.

Not that they had a real budget on PS3 to start with i'd think.

If you look at the publisher's statements in the past, before it launched and after, i don't think that is really the case. They are looking at all options for trying to expand their base.

I think that's great, but their lowering sales on console, not only in Japan, but also in the US are absolutely a big factor

Okay? For JRPG's like this, you don't think people on PC were craving a game like this? Why would it have sold so much in any other case? Of course they were starved for this sort of title, or else it would no have done so well.

No I dont think the PC was starved for turn based tactical games like VC and Disgaea. Instead I think they are a natural fit given all the turn based games and players that are already on the platform

It's so worth it to get pass their shittery! But I don't blame you, the series is niche itself. I think you'd enjoy Disgaea 4 or 5 for sure.

I liked Etna, and the whole
sub-plot to depose and/or murder Laharl was great...until it was abandoned
so D1 had that going for it. Plus it was my first experience with Disgaea in general so everything was all "Whoa. What in the heck is this?"
My issue with D3 wasn't just the shithead protag, but also everyone else was kinda insufferable. I didn't care too much for the rest of D4's cast either (especially that creep Fenrir), but Valvy is the best.

This looks awful. Also, it sure didn't take long for the Atlus/Persona 5 begging to start trickling in. Every Japanese Steam release thread...
Eh...I'm not sure why exactly Atlus should start with Persona 5 anyway. There are five other Persona entries, several mainline SMT titles, Devil Summoner, etc.

Question how close is the gameplay of this to something like FF Tactics and Vandal Hearrts?

The game heavily focuses on grinding and end game content. The game also has a lot of bonuses, quirks and hilarious skits compared to those two you listed it. Its system is also very deep.

But...the PC userbase WAS starved for Japanese turn based tactical games like VC and Disgaea. That's not really a controversial statement is it?

"it could run at 60"
You might want to see if they are actually be able to fix a lot of the issues the 60fps hack is having. Story progression outright is broken on a few situations, plus audio glitches, and outright making the game not run at all on some PCs.

If only Atlus would listen~o/`

PC sales in Japan are almost non-existent. I think until the PC sales for JRPGS here match the level that PS3/PS4/Vita JRPGS games in Japan are sold, they might consider it. At least, that's why Falcom hasn't decided to release their latest games onto PC at the moment.

Nice! I have the psp version but I'll gladly double dip. It's great to see Japanese devs finally giving some love to the pc.

I guess so...but even so, that's what bug squashing is for in general when optimizing for games right? If you look at other porting efforts redubbed as remasters, it makes sense to account for those types of issues cropping up.

A PC port, or a port to another console isn't any different.

It might come down to a budgetary thing, but the money invested does play a big part in it. And hopefully Sega gives Index far more control over making a good experience. I'm guessing since they allowed it to be delayed multiple times, they are really giving them time to polish.

But...the PC userbase WAS starved for Japanese turn based tactical games like VC and Disgaea. That's not really a controversial statement is it?

You're correct in that regard (being Japanese), but turn-based/tactics stuff typically gets a lot of love on PC regardless. I'd say it was less of being starved, and more about the PC audience loving that particular style of gameplay. The amount of 4X and cRPG's that have been pumping out on PC that use turn-based tactical gameplay has been insane lately, and it's down to poor market research that more Japanese devs haven't already got in on that.

So this will be my third time buying this game after PS2 and PSP. Triple dip, no regrets.

Hopefully this also gives NiS a platform to release their games on in case Disgaea 5 doesn't sell well on PS4.
