Disgaea PC [coming February 2016]

YES. Japan isn't fucking around holy crap. Come on down Atlus. Will double dip on this and 2, 3, and 4 if they all come.

Disgaea is one of those series I've always said "well, I get around to it one day". With Steam releases, I guess that day will probably be coming fairly soon. This seems more promising than tracking down a PS2/PSP/DS version, anyway.

Was hoping for HD sprites and those UI fonts look... not very good. Modding to the rescue?

Still in for this day 1. Hopefully they'll release the rest of the series over time too!

Better late than never! You'll love the series!

Well this is one of the first things I'd do if modding them is simple enough.

maybe they'll port the mobile port

I wouldn't mind that. Modders would be able to have the terrible PSX translation if they wanted it.

If there's "HD" sprites in Disgaea 4-5 for the Disgaea 1 cast and monsters, all someone has to do is rip them out of those versions and put them into this in theory.

FFT Mobile on PC would easily be the best version of the game, barebones port or not.If they went the extra mile and added full Mouse/KB support, that would be excellent.

Oh gawd yes. Why isn't it a thing already? We get stuff like FFIII on Steam... and I mean, that's not a bad game, but who thought it'd be a better fit for PC than FFT, exactly?

Finally!

To my understanding, this has been a long time coming. NISA has wanted to port Disgaea to PC for years, but NIS wasn't convinced it was worth the resources and thought they had more to gain by being PS exclusive.

Now maybe I won't have to worry about NIS going bankrupt every other year :/

And hey, even my crappy old laptop should at least be able to run Disgaea 1! ...I hope.

This is huge (for me at least). I'll buy every single disgaea game they port to PC.

Another reason to skip a PS4.

edit: seeing the screenshots reminded me that I'll need a mod to easily change enemies' levels. Passing those bills 20 times wasn't so fun. And another one for the HUD. I don't mind the low-res sprites, but the HUD looks awful with this high-res/low-res mix.

I'm looking forward to this and will support it no problem.

I am curious to see what modders will eventually do with this series.

Probably because it's a numbered "mainline" installment , but yeah... there's really no reason for their slew of ports to stay phone-only at this point, especially not when it includes stuff like Chrono Trigger or all the Dragon Quests.

WOW

Just to think I was actually thinking about playing Disgaea 1 AoD soon on my PSP (since its been 10+ years I last played the original on PS2).

Now I will get this day 1 for sure.

I spent about 300+ hours on the first game.

This means more games will be coming to PC which is great news!

Hope to see more Disgaea 5 owners after this release.
if you play Disgaea and Disgaea 5 right after, you're in for a real treat story and gameplay wise :).

If i would ever tell someone 5 years ago that we will have games like Tales, Neptunia, FFXIII ,Valkyria Chronicles or Disgea on steam , they would put me to instantly to the madhouse... what a nice gaming world we live in now

But...the PC userbase WAS starved for Japanese turn based tactical games like VC and Disgaea. That's not really a controversial statement is it?

No, PC people just love their strat games. There's a reason Civ games are eternally selling and Xcom 2 is PC only. They are not starved, they're literally the main audience for this type of game.

Unless they retroactively put in the ability for healers to get EXP by healing and buffing (like they did in the sequels) then I don't know that I would be interested. Those first few levels on any new healer were sort of nightmarish to try to get them to actually kill something until they could learn an offensive spell or two from standing next to a mage.

Still, I am glad to see this series come to a PC.

While there were/are no shortage of tactical, strategy and 4X games on PC, the post you quoted (and many posts up the quote reply chain) are specifically talking about Japanese SRPGs/TRGPs, of which there are a multitude both on console and PC (of the ecchi and hentai category or otherwise), and of which only the console franchises like Disgaea, Fire Emblem, Front Mission, etc made the localization jump, to the same console platforms (for obvious reasons)

So yes, Japanese SRPGs/TRPGs categorically were something the PC userbase were starved for.

I'll likely end up with this. Been playing mostly PC/Steam the past couple years (and likely to continue being dominant) partly as a result of games like Valkyria Chronicles, Neptunia/Fairy Fencer F, Agarest, etc that I missed while skipping PS3. Plus discovering fun little gems like Fairy Bloom Freesia, Supercharged Robot Vulkaizer, shmups in general.

I actually had Disgaea PS2 long ago but had no time for it. But having it a click away to play a little here and there after doing spreadsheets sounds about right.

Hm. Do I buy it a third time, after finishing story mode with 4 endings on PS2 and not getting past chapter 1 on NDS?

He's talking about publishers/developers, not the relevance of the franchise. Maybe the first Disgaea isn't major, NiS Japan developing the port and confirming their stance of supporting PC is.
Since they're pm the brink of bankrupcy that token support isn't really meaningfull.

If they were serious about the PC market they wouldn't take us for idiots by going for a game that's available on already 4 other systems (ps2, psp, DS and PS3).

When Bamco brought Tales to PC, they used the latest game, not an ancient one. (And watch it end up beeing 30-40$)

OH god that was the worst. If this a direct port from PSP I'm not sure if that changed LOL

I believed they actually reported profits this year and that they were very happy with Disgaea 5 sales in NA.

It's already been discussed, but they need to introduce the series to the PC audience, and what better game than the first one, which is considered one of the bests (if not the best) games of the series? It's also gonna be cheap (probably) and can be near impulse buy territory, expanding the fanbase on a platform that doesn't know the series.

Thinking about it most of the Japanese Strategy games I've played on PC have been h-games, haha. Well they can be fun despite that.

I think people consider it a cult classic for its story. It's a great introduction but I do have some worries since it kind of aged poorly for me.

I believe fans think that Disgaea 4 has one of the best cast, tied with Disgaea 1, Disgaea 5 has the best gameplay and graphics (obviously). Not sure about Disgaea 2 or 3 where they reside.

I used to teach healing spells to my mages and main characters. Easier than leveling up the healer.
