Omg. I found an explosive combat shotgun. Suddenly Le Fusil seems like a piece of junk.

I'm tearing apart power armor wearing knights with one shot. It must add the bonus damage to each pellet.

Power Armor will do the trick. There are a few sets available early on. Also bring Radaway and RadX anyway.

I honestly haven't used power armor since the first time, so I have to learn some stuff about it. Can you fast travel in it? I think it's going to be a long trek from the Museum of Freedom. Also will look into a hazmat suit.

if you want it, heres where I just found it:

go to University Point, where are some ruins there with a "settlers welcome" sign (or something), nearby you will find a bank. if you go in the front you cant do much, its just the cashier's side, but if you go in the back you can explore the vault. inside there are several lockboxes, one of them has a button that opens a secret wall, with the rifle inside

When it comes to a settlement's defense does turret/guard post placement count? Or is just about getting the defense number equal to or greater than your food and water output combined?

Want to get food/water production up for adhesive but don't want to deal with having to rush to defend a settlement from raiders right now.

Is there a way to remove dead bodies? A
minuteman died during the Queen attack at the castle
and his body has been sitting there for days. Thought it would go away but nope. I think I also have someone's remains as a pile of goop sitting there, too.

If we get a mod to name settlers I'll definitely start making more use of the system.

What settlement is everyone using? I'm at covenant but it feels a bit too small.

Maybe press X (button to grab an item) on the dead body to move it out

Game is awesome, 19 hours and completely sucked in. It scratches an itch every time I play it.

Just one more quest, okay done...wait what's that over there (1+ hour later).

What's the difference between storing junk in workbenches and scraping things on the floor? I've been storing things in benches, my friend has been putting everything out on the floor and scraping it. What does scraping stuff do exactly?

I think the only difference is your friend is taking the extra step to take it out and scrap it. If its in your work bench at your settlement, it gets scrapped automatically when you use up the resource.

Junk stored in benches automatically scraps when you decide to build something. There's no point in dropping it at all and manually scrapping it.

Scrapping breaks items down into junk that you use for crafting and modding

How do speech checks work in this game? I wish they were more clear. Is it color coordinated by difficulty? Yellow is moderate, red is difficult? Is yellow implying you have a chance to succeed, and red means no chance?

I just want to know if I should keep reloading this save to see if the red works, or come back with higher CHR / persuasion.

Yup it is color coded by difficulty

Hey everyone, I was deciding if I should get this game on PC or PS4. The obvious answer is PC because of mod support in the future, but hear me out.

If I do get it on PC, I have to finish building my PC to even play it (haven't started yet). Plus I have the added bonus of mod support.

If I get it on PS4 mods will come "eventually" and I have the convenience of taking my PS4 to the living room and such and play. Plus I have a Vita and Vita TV, so remote play is an option when I'm away from the PS4.

Any help is greatly appreciated! (I originally was set on getting it on PC, but then I remembered remote play and that I have to build my PC...)

Yellow you have a chance, orange is less likely to succeed, red you are not going to succeed i believe

yellow = low charisma
orange = medium charisma
red = high charisma

It's not in relation to your current stats, no. If your charisma stat gets high enough that you clear a red option you'll clear every red option ever presented to you with said stat level should you choose it.

I used all my ammo last night on a quest I randomly ran into while walking to the Witch quest. Need to clear out some huge building, and I stopped after clearing the outside. Like 15 guys with flamers and molotovs, an assassin robot with lasers, 5 more guys with laser guns, and 3 starred bosses. Managed to get through them all, but have no ammo yet and have yet to go inside the place.

It's percentage based or something like that you have a chance for any but they require greater CH to increase likelihood of success. Yellow is likely with low CH, Orange is less likely or middle CH and Red is unlikely or high CH. So you can reload and keep trying and might luck out, but not likely. I personally have a set of CH boosting cloths. Glasses, Hat and dress that give me +4 CH to bring me to 10 and I generally pass every one first try.

With max charisma I've never failed a red dialogue option.

So, I just played around with an easy to reload red speech check. It worked after about 15 attempts. It's 100% luck, the color coding seemingly just shows how likely you are the pass the check. It's seemingly possible to pass any check without any charisma if you just brute force it. What an awkward change...

Rifleman, Gunslinger, or Commando? Which guns seem to work best in this game? So far I am liking Shotguns best. Haven't even tried any full-auto guns with how scarce ammo is. Thoughts?
I went with Gunslinger because of the Character I'm roleplaying as but all 3 are great.

Go with PS4 now and get the PC version later either on a Steam Sale or wait for GOTY Edition.

I've failed one or two I think when I have my CH clothes on. Even failed a few Yellow before without my CH getup and that's with a base of 6 CH. So there's definitely an element of chance behind it all just like FO3, just we don't see the numbers.

I've been playing for 52 hours and this hasn't happened to me ever.

It happened when I had close to max, but at max it's basically no question.

I'm not far in the game yet, but is there a reason or requirement to have a bunch of settlements? I'm sort of out of my element on the whole thing (it's kinda like a board game where I don't really know all the rules yet), and I'm having trouble finding time to really grow the first one ;p

No reason at all. You do get some additional quests but you're likely to stumble across them exploring the wasteland on your own I think (they're the "go here and kill everyone" type of quests so far).

Just posted my settlement in the F4 settlement thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=185817767&postcount=314

Can't wait to find a new location and start all over! Too much fun.

K, well I've played just as long and it has for me, you've just been exceptionally lucky it seems. May be at 10 you never fail, I only got Charisma 6 later so my max was CH 9 with clothes bonuses. Also I had relatively low Luck most of the game at 3 and if yours is higher it's likely it plays a role too.

If you build a Ballistic Cannon in every Settlement you can pretty much bring down Hell on any Enemy not inside a building by using the Blue Grenades you unlock from a Minuteman Quest.

And of course more Settlements means more Minuteman available to help you in any area to come to your aid if you use a Flare Gun.

Just finished up my market square in Sanctuary. Place is starting to feel like an actual city at this point.

Just need some more Cloth to finish building beds.

At 10 charisma and I'm not failing checks anymore.

Charisma is at 8, and adding an item ot two we get 10. Failing just doesn't happen now, there's no question about it.

It makes dialogue some nice and easy experience when you're getting more caps for a side quest.

Personally I'm going with gunslinger and commando, so I get to use Pistols and Automatic weapons. I'm really liking it so far.

Ammo for auto isn't really an issue seeing as I can buy 300+ ammo for my SMG (with exploding bullets) from vendors whenever I see it. Caps aren't exactly scarce once you build a couple industrial strength water purifiers....

With me wearing the Silver Shroud armor and toting the Silver Submachine Gun and Cait wearing the Grognak armor and wielding the Grognak Axe, we must be the most terrifying cosplayers in the Wasteland.
