Yakuza 5 releasing DECEMBER 8, 2015

Did they? Not surprised.. we're beyond mid november now as far as releases are concerned.

Will be playing something else meanwhile. Guess I could continue my 0 save file.

Yup, they did:
SEGA PR rep John Hardin explained that the release date was removed because SEGA was worried people would take the language too specifically and that it would be able to release Yakuza 5 in that time frame if everything goes to plan.

He reiterated that SEGA still hopes to release the game in mid-November but is non-committal on the date.

It could still come out next week I guess, but I doubt it.

We are talking about a 3 years-old niche download-only game released with close-to-zero marketing for an outphased console.

Pretty sure they are not expecting millions in sales (or they are very naive).

Yakuza 5's target audience will buy this game regardless anything else released in the same window, and the rest won't even know it exists...With a considerable amount of luck some other people will buy when it gets a price cut/free on a PS+ sale or hear from some friend...

I don't think the entire series to date has sold a million in the west. Maybe a half million total?

Also hoping more people discover this amazing series though. Maybe it's released will be paired with one of the PS4 titles announced for the West.

Well, yeah, when I wrote millions I was actually trying to be sarcastic, but I can see how it can be taken literally. What I meant is that I don't think SEGA expects Yakuza 5 to even get close to the 100k mark...

It basically seems like they wanted to sneak this out sometime in the summer / fall window and hope the die hards out there will bite. Whatever technical hiccup they faced ended up delaying them significantly. Now the game is just sitting there, waiting for its inevitably disappointing sales performance, even with the lowest of expectations.

Honestly, just re-announce at PSX and release it on PSN right after.

This whole thing is making it seem even more depressingly likely that this will be the last Yakuza game to get released in the west.

Oh sorry! I often have to remind myself how poorly this sells sometimes too. I only got into the series a few months ago and assumed it sold well since we got 5 games over here. Was shocked when I learned it probably didn't even crack half a million.

Don't think like that

Just be hype for Yakuza 5

For when you have it 1-2 weeks down the line, and it graces your PS3, you will discover bliss and joy, as you HEAT move street punks to the pavement, wow your hostess date with your epic singing skills at Karaoke, and get 10 consecutive Strikes in a row when playing bowling.

Thank God that I've already paid for this game. All of this not knowing/being in the dark is really starting to get under my skin so if I hadn't pre-ordered it I might have decided to skip buying it at full price and wait until it was dirt cheap.
(something that I currently plan to do with Persona 5 because of the way Atlus's PR handled that whole delay mess)

It's not suicide to release it now because only the Yakuza fans were gonna buy it and they're going to buy it anyway. This is more for the fans than anything else, it's not going to bring in new people to the series.

Yep just like Disgaea, this is a game that sells mainly to an established fanbase. I don't think the release date will affect sales much.

You're right. I need to snap out of it.

Who knows...maybe the fact that 4 was on PS+ will bring some new fans. And given that, a little distance between 5 and all the season's big releases can only help.

honestly at this point they should just say "it's out now" when paying some lip service to it at PSE. maximum exposure, and might spur some impulse buys.

I am guessing this will get a sort of USF4 release , where they just announce it a week earlier or something.

OR If there is anything Yakuza related at PSX , I expect a Yakuza 5 is out now kinda thing.

Game is finally up on PSN :)

Edit: never mind I thought it was up but if you go onto the link on the web browser it still says preorder. Sorry guys

I saw it like this. Looks like it's out but it really isn't....yet

Wish it came out sooner, I knocked my PS3 controller off my desk last week and now it doesn't work properly anymore :(

Edit: Oh it isn't even out yet. My emotions dammit.

i'm glad to see it was already covered

bonus: kiryu isn't hitting haruka with his hand, it's with his shoulder. the hand never connects but the shoulder does.
