Gamespot: Yoshinori Ono talks DLC, Beta Woes and Xbox One Fans

The actual quote is

"[PS3 is] for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."

It's pretty close in meaning.

Only in the dumbest interpretation, he's clearly saying he wants PS3 to be an aspirational item, something a person desires and will do all they can to own one. Not 'lol, can't afford it? Try working harder, scrubs!'

Sony is in the business of making dreams come true these days. They should just give Capcom the money that is needed for Skullomania in SFV. That character is just way too important to be lost forever in the EX games.

Lol love that comment by Ono. What a guy!

Funny seeing how it ruffled some feathers judging by some of the comments in this thread.

I do have to agree with the "hypocrisy" stated by leeh. No matter the exclusivity thing, it's done. I don't care about it not going to XBO as I'm going to get it on PC (I refuse to buy a PS4 just for that game) but the statement is just like the "Get a second job", "...it's called the Xbox 360" type of statements.

The fact of the matter is that people got mad at those executives when they honestly did tell the truth (just like Ono) but they were "crucified" for it, but Ono says it, and "he's just being honest as this question has been asked to death". Nah, that's hypocritical. Treat everyone the same or just be honest that you aren't being objective in the situation but trying to seem like you are.

It's ok to be partial to what Ono says, human nature, you aren't going to be objective all the time, but if someone calls out bullshit to what is being said, you don't have to "back him up" just because. That's just dumb.

except microsoft reneged on their ideal version of the xbox one. are you saying capcom will renege on their ps4 console exclusivity. and we don't treat them the same because the situations aren't the same.

Am I the only one who would much rather have D.Dark than Skullomania?

900x900px-LL-58cf3418_salt_intensifies.gif

I have a PS4 and will be buying SFV when it comes out, no salt involved. Not everything is a fanboy war you know.

All I know is when you have a 2 million min expectation for a series that is 23 yrs old and revived the fighting scene, you ain't doing so good.

Also SF5 is going up against the Far Cry Primal, Mighty N9 (Which is on ten platforms), NS: UNS4 and PVZ: GW2. I really hope Capcom has a back-up plan if anything goes awry.

The days of fighting games having the same appeal as they used to in the 90s has long since passed. Now the only fighting game to pull crazy numbers is smash.

Unless you're going to call out individuals on their hypocrisy, there is absolutely no point in labeling GAF as a hive mind. It isn't a singular entity and your argument then just ends up being a lazy one.

To be honest, I wouldn't go on leeh's word, that poster made some strange comments in sales threads without any evidence.

Arguing that the situations are the same is wrong. They are not the same, despite what others will tell you.

A. Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to PS4 a year later and the PC version was delayed months to get it out of the part of the year where games sell the most.
B. The PC version of Street Fighter V is coming day and date.
C. Microsoft paid to keep a game already in production off of one platform, Sony helped to fund a game in its beginning stages.

Also, stop using quotation marks unless you're either quoting someone, or it's clear what the irony you're going for is. It's confusing to read people's tone on the internet as it is, when you start adding weird quotation marks, it becomes next to impossible to figure out what you're saying.

I have a PS4 and will be buying SFV when it comes out, no salt involved. Not everything is a fanboy war you know.

Shenmue fanboy! :)

No it isn't. You guys are really reaching with the 2nd job comments. If you want to play it, then you know what to do, simple as that. I wanted halo, so I brought an xbox. Also, Leeh certainly isn't the poster to follow if we're talking objectivity.

I really like Skullomania but I don't think he's that popular. With the game at launch being half SF2 characters and a fourth Alpha characters, I feel they are sticking with what butters their bread and there's a host of characters they can bring back before they need to dip into the EX series. EX characters are probably just above Sawada in terms of popularity.

Sure, he isn't PR but that is a big fuck you for some of my Xbox only friends that are interested in the game.

Sweet words won't change the facts. Regardless of how he spoke, the message would be: You will need a PS4 or a PC and, between those, PS4 is the cheaper alternative.

I appreciate he being honest and straightforward, anything less would be worse.

The PS4 is the true successor to PS2 so we best be glad we can enjoy most 3rd party multiplatform games as well as a return to form for Japan all on one console. Makes it easier than spreading support to another which doesn't have the same pull in Japan as Xbox.

SF5, that could be multiplatform but the cross play and openness or Sony for broader things means we will get the best SF5 possible. That's something we'd be lacking if this was also on the boner instead of a Plantation exclusive.

If someone asked insomnia "what do you say to ps4 gamers that want Sunset Over Drive"

What would they say? If I'm correct I'm pretty sure they said something similar

Guess what? I saved up and bought a Xbox one for sunset overdrive

It's the way exclusives work
No matter how that line is delivered, it all comes down to the fact you need to save up money to buy this game, you should probably buy the system now while it's only $300

There is nothing wrong with that
Would you rather buy it when the price goes back up to $350??

well that's why PR exist, to tell hard truth in a way that doesn't affect possible future consumers. But there are ways to tell the truth without being sarcastic. Well I guess that's the kind of person Ono is. I suppose if Kamiya is asked about Scalebound on PS4, he would reply in a similar fashion.

Nope, nope, nope.

You are essentially equating the comments, which is completely wrong. Given the context, and the arrogance in which some of them were said, they are not the same.

Sony was trying to defend a horrible pricing structure for the PS3. A console should never be priced so high that someone needs to get a 2nd job to afford it. People called Kutagari out for this fairly, as it was an arrogant statement to make. However, the damn thing still sold like hotcakes, so maybe he was somewhat justified in saying it?

Don Mattrick was trying to justify ridiculous anti-consumer practices planned for the XB1 and essentially told people if you don't like it, buy a 360. Again, idiotic comment to make, and MS's 180 shortly after proves it.

Ono was asked what do you have to say to SF fans on XB1. He said, you'll have to buy a PS4... nothing false, nothing underhanded, or misleading, nothing else to say really. I mean, what do you want him to say? I suppose he could have mentioned PC, but that doesn't take away from the fact that XB owners can't play it.

Got to ask which executives told the truth? If you mean tomb raider. Yeah people going to mad when they finally told the truth after trying to hide and obfuscate it. Also the second job quote doesn't exist.

And people are constantly complaining about shitty PR comments....so, really don't understand what people want here if it's not just the truth.

But, again, I don't understand console wars and just buy the shit I want and the means to play it. The idea that having to do so is somehow insulting to consumers is beyond me.

And making assumptions make you look like an ass. You don't know what I do with my life so don't make stupid assumptions.

You : "Wow i can't wait to play this awesome fighting game i've been anticipating!"

Ono "There's plenty of time to save up for a PS4, they are pretty cheap nowadays!"

You "WTF HOW DARE YOU ONO, NOT BUYING!"

Yeah, excuse me if i don't see any real credibility with your viewpoint on that.

how is ono being sarcastic

i hope to hear more about your choice of future purchases based off of short segments in interviews

To be fair, it was a silly statement to begin with based off what was said.

amazing how now PC matters. any other time it's but my comfy couch gaming, 60" inch screens, $1500 to get a decent system, accessibility, etc.

and now that's supposed to be an option over a $300 system.

It was a quick answer to a dumb question. His answer was reasonable considering PS4 is the main platform for the game and sony is helping to make it happen. If the answer was get a PC, then you'd have a wave of "outrage" from other groups. I mean come on, folks are already equating what he said to needing a second job, I could only imagine if he mentioned PC.

Apart from the fact that the comments regarding the PS3 and the XBO were made by the platform CEO types, were made when talking about questionable pricing or platform service choices, and were made in a reasonably serious manner.

Ono's comment was clearly tongue in cheek regarding a question that at this point doesn't necessarily warrant a particularly sensitive answer imo

What is your message to Street Fighter fans on Xbox One?

O: [Laughs] There’s plenty of time to save $300 before the game comes out. The PlayStation 4 is at a very attractive price point at the moment. [Laughs]

Ono he didn't!

"Boo hoo I don't believe someone on the interwebs boo hoo hoo."

Sorry if I don't give a flying fuck if you believe me or not. I'll live.

Relax, I was responding to a post that made it sound like the only way to play the game was the PS4.

Enough of the straw mans ok?

That last comment was incredible, lol. I can't blame him, people have probably been asking him the same questions regarding an Xbox One version every single week since the game was revealed and I can only guess he's pretty much done with saying the same thing over and over again.

It's not coming out for the Xbox One.

We'll, I'm really happy that Capcom announced Xplay with pc, that helps a lot uniting the players and I don't have to spend ridiculous amount of money for the game.

Just 45€.
