Gamespot: Yoshinori Ono talks DLC, Beta Woes and Xbox One Fans

The "Playstation people"? Step back a minute.

Sony got the game off the ground. Ono appreciates this and they have a partnership. The game is 100% Sony funded with a PC exemption. He is going to absolutely say buy a PS4 if you want to play the game.

There should be no controversy here.

I think he's just missing a comma after Playstation. Punctuation is important!

I believe western developers are better at being passive aggressive rather than outright blunt like our good friend Ono.

"Over at gaming forum NeoGAF, Insomniac fans, who were used to playing their games on PlayStation platform, complained about missing out on the game, to which Stevenson had the following response.

sorry you feel that way, but know we had to partner with the right group that believed in us and the vision of the game, wanted to see that vision came to life, and was ok with us retaining the rights to our creation.

In all of those regards, Microsoft has been a terrific partner in making Sunset Overdrive reality."

Yeah, however you want to interpret that it's fine but "hahahahaha save and buy the console we're on" is way different. It's a huge difference. THat's like you replying to someone "you failed your test? well you're a fucking idiot" vs "sorry you failed, get focused and study this time"

I just don't believe a western developer could get away with this type of response.

Street Fighter 5 wouldn't even be coming out this soon if it weren't for Sony. Not to mention its cross-play too and its making a lot of changes FOR THE BETTER.

Dood, I don't think that's the case at all.

If a western developer said this about the PlayStation people would be going fucking bananas. I don't get why the Japanese gaming sector gets a pass like this a lot of times.

It's already known
Japanese developers > Western developers.

It's just how the world works, accept it young padawan.

My take on this is most of the angry people here are taking this way too seriously.

Ono is Ono, he's always been a life lover happy dude and his answer was more like, "what the hell am i supposed to say this time after being asked the Xbox question a million times already".

The other thing, we have no idea what went behind closed doors, Ono is not gonna say anything about how the deal went, maybe they approched Microsoft and the PC cross-play was a problem. If that's the case then i'm happy it's not on Xbox One and on PS4 and PC where the mojority is anyway and where the most people can play the game.

Xbox only owner don't seem to be into fighting games that much anyway. Even with the 360 better online play for fighters, PS3 managed to sell the most copies of every fighting games in the US.

When ppl be salty that a fighting game that needed serious help is coming out on PS4 and PC because of Sony. Not just on PS4 while featuring crossplay. What would you have want him to reply to that last question?

SORRY?

Did I miss confirmation that Sony put every ounce of funds into SFV and no one else?

...no, it's not like replying to someone that failed a test.

Jesus Christ, do you realize that you just projected a console not getting a videogame into a PERSONAL failure? Think about that for a minute.

Who else is going to? There is no one else. Because Ono had no budget. He's said all this himself. He got SCEA to support the project with their backing, and that was the only reason the higher ups allowed it to happen.

It was the exact same situation with USF4 port, which wasn't coming to current gen period without Sony paying for that port themselves wholesale.

He's said all this himself before and after the announcement people, research!

I guess Ono's trolling has to get to some people eventually.

Eventually? You should have seen the meltdowns in the various reveal threads for SFV.

I swear we had to get sudoku watch going for some people.

you'd be insane to think this wasn't in development before the Sony deal was sealed.

Can't fault the guy for being honest. I kind of wish more companies were that straightforward; hearing the automated response spiel had gotten pretty tiresome. It really sucks that you have to buy 4 different systems if you want to play all of Capcom's games though.

The Skullomania stuff made me laugh pretty hard.

I swear we had to get sudoku watch going for some people.

Quick! He's gonna put numbers in those boxes. Stop him!

It was a simple question. I haven't been following the situation as I have no interest in fighters.

But thanks for the sass.

um, it has nothing to do with that bro. you completely missed the point.

I really, really didn't.

Thinking that an answer to an exclusivity question is tantamount to the tact and care required when a failure happens at a personal level speaks volumes.

When you think about it, how pathetic is it that Capcom did not have the scratch to make a bloody fighting game for this Gen? Between them, Sega, and Konami, I don't know what to say....

Now if he would have said "Right now we are focused on the pc&ps4 release blah blah"(general pr speak) all of you would get hope its coming to Xbox. No! He kept it 100% real. How some can find offense to that is baffling

you'd be insane to think this wasn't in development before the Sony deal was sealed.

Well according to Ono and a producer on the series Capcom didn't have the budget to produce the game (they barely gave a budget for USF4) and the producer went on to say they probably wouldn't have the funds to make it until 2018.

You have no proof of your claims and others can at least point to Capcom saying over and over and over that this wouldn't have happened without Sony's involvement.

Ono tweeted about how he couldn't get SFV greenlit waaaay before it was ever announced. They probably had a prototype but a Capcom that became fiscally conservative after a bunch of consecutive failures wouldn't have backed it entirely by themselves.

I only assume people are losing their shit in this thread because now, FINALLY, people are realizing when Capcom said V is never coming to XB1 repeatedly for a year now that they actually mean it. They deluded themselves that a Super SFV would be a loophole and appear on the XB1.

You don't have to believe me, I'm just saying it's insane to think otherwise. I mean, ultimately it really doesn't matter what the public thinks they know about the contract which will never be shown to them, so you can certainly disregard my comment.

Are Sony actually publishing the game on PS4 and PC? Genuine question, not wanting to fan anymore flames here :)

Pretty sure they are publishing the PC version as well, similar to how they published Helldivers on Steam.

There's no proof the game was in development before then, but it's safe to assume that they were in the planning stages at the very least.

That doesn't mean they would of left the planning stage at the same time without the Sony deal.

Not saying that you are wrong, but this situation provides a perfect blueprint for looking games down to a platform.

1 - Say that a console manufacturer is funding a game

2 - Say that it was never going to be made without manufacture money

3 - Say that development only started once manufacturer money cleared

4 - Say that it is a lifetime exclusive

All the speculation is baseless if a publisher states these points....

you'd be insane to think this wasn't in development before the Sony deal was sealed.

Oh so we're back to conjecture without proof now?

"OBVIOUSLY it was in development, Sony just paid for it to be exclusive! I mean come on, its STREET FIGHTER!"

If you have any evidence of that, better present it.

My only proof was talking with someone who was working on it 5 years ago at Capcom when I was at EVO, but I can't really cite that source so feel free to disregard.

I think looking at every post and trying to find that it insults or demeans you horribly isn't the way to go. You're just nitpicking and looking wayy too closely to posts.

Translation for Hawk2025: You're crazy and should go club yourself with a bag of badgers because.
