Gamespot: Yoshinori Ono talks DLC, Beta Woes and Xbox One Fans

Why should he be laughing? Capcom have a whole history of changing their minds.

The fact that people can't get the fact it's not getting released on Xbone through thier thick skulls is funny.

Capcom has changed thier mind before, when they didn't have contracts like the one this likely has and the game fails. Continuing to ask about it is just stupid.

He is right about the about the PS4 thing, If you buy everything preowned it will probably equal or just be over $300 dollars.

So really, there's no reason why people can't buy a PS4 for this game, Thanks Ono.

Business make such deals because they think is in the best interest of their company/product. They are not evil, or wrong. If it doesn't come out on your system of choice, it's just something you have to deal with. Choose to buy a new system or don't play the game. I don't get why some people expect game companies to play by different standards than any other consumer goods company. If you ever listen to two people try to convince a third to buy either a ps4 or and xbo, it ultimately leads to listing off exclusives at some point. It's a selling point to have great games "only on..."

When Sony got SF as an exclusive, it was a good get for their platform. Just like when Xbox got titianfall. The only strange thing is the joy it seems to bring some people to see others who want to play that game but can't. Getting SFV was a great move by Sony, tip your cap and move on.

The most impressive thing this thread has given me is that i didn't know about the HUGO cosplay.

Other than that .. it's an Ono interview , no doubt about that.

Did people that seem to be mad forget about Dead Rising 3? Capcom isn't new to console exclusive deals.

I think it is more of the fact that without MS, it was highly unlikely Capcom were going to release another Dead Rising. However with SFV it is likely that it would have been made without Sony although not as soon.

$300 is a whole month's pay for me and where I live ps4's cost at least $600+. I'm not getting a ps4 any time soon. His comment rubs me the wrong way but is also understandable. Guess I won't play this game then unfortunately *shrugs*

Aww that's a shame. I liked this guy but that save up to buy a PS4 comment reeks of the days of Kutaragi telling you to buy a PS3 at $600 and deal with it. It's insensitive.

Some of y'all never get to complain about other people taking Aaron Greenberg super-seriously again, I'll be there to remind you :p

Between this and the DF Call of Duty thread this week, maaaaaan!

Just out of interest, how many times has the "If this was about Tomb Raider..." defense been posted in this thread so far?

But not any time soon. That's the issue. While they didn't need Sony's help, it gave them the ability to release the gamer much sooner, which equals money coming in much sooner. Also, it would be interesting to see how many XB1 only owners would even be interested in the game. I'd wager a small %.

LMFAO at that XB1 answer! This guy never ceases to not crack me the fuck up; even when he's not speaking, he's in some weird ass custom doing Ono thangs.

And if by not as soon you mean that FUNDING for the game wouldn't have been freed up until at earliest 2018, then the game could have gone into dev and come out after a 2 year dev cycle in 2020, then sure. It wouldn't have happened as soon. I'm pretty sure that people who are actually fans of the franchise are happy that it's coming out this gen/decade at all. It's not like Capcom hasn't let a franchise go dormant before (where you at, DMC and Onimusha?). Hell, SF was dormant for nearly a decade.

DR3 is an okay comparison. It's possible (however unlikely) that it could have happened at some way later date without MS help, but they were willing to foot the bill so it was released at launch. Tomb Raider, on the other hand, is a totally different ball game. Anyone who is trying to draw parallels between the two is completely off base.

The PS4 is the true successor to PS2 so we best be glad we can enjoy most 3rd party multiplatform games as well as a return to form for Japan all on one console. Makes it easier than spreading support to another which doesn't have the same pull in Japan as Xbox.

SF5, that could be multiplatform but the cross play and openness or Sony for broader things means we will get the best SF5 possible. That's something we'd be lacking if this was also on the boner instead of a Plantation exclusive.

Tone down your fanboyism dude.

He could've handled that Xbox question with a bit more tact. Comments on platforms (especially when exclusivity is involved) are obviously going to be a hot button issue with some folks.

If Ono can't be Ono, that would be an Oh No.

Call the platform ambulance if this triggered someone.

The statement would have been better without the laughing I guess but I really can't think of another way in which Ono could have responded to that question.

Probably stings a bit for Xbox One users who bought fight sticks early this gen expecting Street Fighter 5 to release on the system ($200+) but business is business.

Killer Insinct is solid (best fighting game this gen so far; pre-SF5 release) and season three should be really good.

Ono is ALWAYS LAUGHING. He's a jovial guy. He would have said this in a joking manner.

This is people looking to get offended over something that has been talked about since the announcement.

Have you guys never seen Ono?
He's always laughing/smiling

Heck most of the time hes already laughing and smiling before he gets on to a stage or does interviews

Pretty much. His statement is pretty much an ad for the PS4. I believe that many would view what he said differently if the "(laughs)" were taken out of the message.

Really now?

What was wrong with my statement? I mentioned Killer Instinct in reply to Xbox One users getting angry since it isn't like the system doesn't have a solid fighting game.

I'm a big fan of Fighting games and KI sits really low on my list of all time greats. Even this gen I'd rate it:

USFIV > MKX > GGXrd > Injustice > KI 2 are remakes I know but for my enjoyment factor I added them in because of the hours I put into them. KI just isn't for me. I will always be a SF man primarily. SF is the king of fighters (no pun)

Tone down your fanboyism dude.
You're not serious are you? Lol

There is a degree of truth in my words but I'm far from a fanboy. I don't even have a PS4 and the only platforms I own right now are my 360 and Vita.

I suggest you check yourself at the door. My comments on the PS4 being the new PS2 are not new from me and reflect a degree of truth. The rest of my wording is fluff. If you find that offensive then that's a you problem.

I am a huge SFV fan and you don't understand how relieved I was that it got announced for PS4. I would have been pissed if T was on Xbox One as I am a PS4 owner. However I would have got over it and bought it on PC. If there was no PC version thrn I would have bought it for Xbox One just for that game. I know I'm being unfair bit I'm glad it's exclusive to my platform now as I know all the competition is on one platform (cross play). I hated as a PS3 owner I couldn't play some of my friends who had the 360 version. Now all my friends are forced to get a PS4. The people who are not getting a PS4 for SFV are ones who probably not huge fans of the game to begin with and wouldn't have played it long term.

I am jealous of Killer Instinct though bit luckily MS is releasing it on PC soon.

He answered that stupid question perfectly in Ono manner. Literally the perfect answer, both laughs and all.

LMFAO at that XB1 answer! This guy never ceases to not crack me the fuck up; even when he's not speaking, he's in some weird ass custom doing Ono thangs.

Ono is a troll.
If you see a thread about him be ready.
Everyone is his victim and he doesn't have any allies.

So because he is "Ono", he escapes the scrutiny that others would face?

That is odd, because we have threads popping up all the time because PR guy is being.....

Wait for it...

PR Guy.

Anyways, SFV is looking awesome. I will be enjoying it on my PC once it drops.

What did y'all want him to say about the Xbox one question? If you don't own a PC powerful enough or a ps4 save up and go get one! And if you can't...well you ain't playing.

No, no. You misunderstand.

He doesn't escape scrutiny -- putting the comment under scrutiny in the first place is what's ridiculous.

Yes, we have threads popping up all the time over PR guy being PR guy. And people rightfully point out that PR guy is being PR guy.

This goes one beyond: it adds a sequence of Joke questions before, an xbox question followed by a joke answer and --sure enough -- the upset comments flow. It's like doubling down on the Greenberg reactions.

I'd happily sacrifice the XB1 version to ensure crossplay between PS4 and PC for the larger player base alone.

Ono gave a non-PR truthfact. Can't win with some people. If the truth makes you that upset, probably should ask yourself why.

But, yeah, there's shouldn't be scrutiny for Ono being the same as he always is in interviews and in real life.

I'd happily sacrifice the XB1 version to ensure crossplay between PS4 and PC for the larger player base alone.

Yup.

I'm so fucking happy that I will only have to travel with one stick for future tournaments. one stick, one console, no worries.

Understood. Thanks for the clarification :)

.

Keep that fanboy crap out of the discussion please.

The truth is that the game is also available for the PC. So, his little bit about getting a PS4 is in fact PR, because it omits that "truth-fact" that those interested in the game can play it on the PC.

Anyways, some have pointed out that he is just answering in a joking fashion. So all is good.

In the end, you are right.... much ado about nothing...

Now, I need to upgrade my custom stick.... Not very good with soldering....

What is your message to Street Fighter fans on Xbox One?

O: [Laughs] There’s plenty of time to save $300 before the game comes out. The PlayStation 4 is at a very attractive price point at the moment. [Laughs]

If a western developer said this about the PlayStation, people would be going fucking bananas. I don't get why the Japanese gaming sector gets a pass like this a lot of times.

EDIT: corrected for punctuation, because already someone is jumping on it. funny, considering it strengthens my point.

Oh I just didn't know Killer Instinct was that amazing. I have to check it out later. I'm a huge fighting game fan, played Tekken competitively and was ranked second online at one point world wide on Tekken 6, of course I've given up on that with jobs and all. Just looking for another good fighting game.

Not sure why some people find it odd that he would push the PS4 version when Sony money funded the game and is also helping fund the tournament scene. That $500K Ono was able to secure for this year's Capcom Pro Tour and Capcom Cup didn't come out of thin air.

Someone please remind me has a western developer for a classic title or a big game ever said something like this in regards to the console the game was not releasing on?

I believe western developers are better at being passive aggressive rather than outright blunt like our good friend Ono.

"Over at gaming forum NeoGAF, Insomniac fans, who were used to playing their games on PlayStation platform, complained about missing out on the game, to which Stevenson had the following response.

sorry you feel that way, but know we had to partner with the right group that believed in us and the vision of the game, wanted to see that vision came to life, and was ok with us retaining the rights to our creation.

In all of those regards, Microsoft has been a terrific partner in making Sunset Overdrive reality."

The "Playstation people"? Step back a minute.

Sony got the game off the ground. Ono appreciates this and they have a partnership. The game is 100% Sony funded with a PC exemption. He is going to absolutely say buy a PS4 if you want to play the game.

There should be no controversy here.
