summarise this fucking shit-show of a thread

His saving $300 line sounds as absurd as the "get two jobs to afford a ps3" logic.

The difference being that he is clearly joking, as opposed to the original quote.

Also, they've already been super clear about the whole Xbox One situation so honestly the question was redundant anyway.

I don't think people like to be laughed at. You know? It's a bit different if the guy came out and said "yeah, sorry about that, but sony struck a deal" or "we needed the initial capital" or anything of that nature to show a bit of respect or humility but nah, straight trolling.

A grown man trolling, like a teenager, to FANS of his own product no less. Da faq?

I know right, the guy is like old enough to be his fan's fathers and he does something like that? I now have to move this game to "pre-owned" buy status now.

Actually...

http://www.gamesradar.com/yoshinori-ono-says-street-fighter-5-pc-ps4/

Ono: "I’ve worked on many different projects within Capcom, but in my career here, the greenlight process for Street Fighter 5 was comfortably the most straightforward. This game was probably a hundred times easier to get off the ground than the previous one,” he explains. “The passion around Street Fighter is currently such that the internal team within Capcom has been incredibly eager. There have been far fewer obstacles and far less stress.”

That's not to say, however, that we would have gotta SF5 as soon as we will...or that we would have gotten the same amazing prize pots without Sony. This is definitely not just "moneyhatting" or "paying for exclusivity"...Sony seems much more involved than that. They were the ones who ported USF4, after all. Not, Capcom. Sony's definitely going in on SF.

But, I don't think SF5 was ever in jeopardy of NEVER being made.

Well yeah, I agree. That's what I said in the post you are quoting. If Capcom still exists in 2017 we probably would have seen V around 2018.

And quoting for the new page:

I mean... I think it's ridiculous. Sfiv was a huge hit that did wonders, while sfxt flopped, a mainline sf was a pretty safe bet as a success. Outside of monster hunter, it seemed like capcom's safest bet

Capcom's rationale for why SFxT failed was due to market saturation in the fighting game genre. Now, you don't have to believe that is the reason, but Capcom did on some level so perhaps they didn't think it was time to create any new fighting game.

SFV's first trailer was released in Nov. 2014 and SFxT released in March 2012. So likely they were a year out from the failure of SFxT when they were in talks for V so I imagine Capcom still considered the market saturated, at least enough that a financially unstable Capcom would consider SFV too risky.

It's more realistic they'd be bought out by another company and existing as a division within them than ceasing to exist.

Complain much? It's not a marketing ploy like Sony did before. He's only being transparent on what Xbox owners' options are to play SFV, besides PC. Buying a capable PC will cost you more than $300. I assume Capcom allowed the deal to happen since Sony was willing to pony up the funds for development and marketing.

With each iteration of SFIV the community kept shrinking, which probably didn't give Capcom a reason to invest their own money into the next iteration of SF. Just look at the DR3 deal with Microsoft. That's never going to come over to a Sony platform.

Just wondering, did you actually listen to Ono respond or did you simply read a statement with a laugh comment after it? Because it sounds like you actually heard it, which would be the only way you could infer how and why he was laughing. I mean by your suggestion it couldn't possibly be that he was just nervously giggling because it is an obviously touchy question, or that there was a previous back and forth exchange that had him in a jolly mood because he is a jolly guy in general who literally laughs after every sentence he ever seems to say whenever he is on stage or being interviewed.

You're reaching.

Laughing and telling people to "save" a la Ken Kutaragi isn't exactly my idea of him being "nervously giggling". But who knows, right?

His saving $300 line sounds as absurd as the "get two jobs to afford a ps3" logic.

What do you want Ono to say? If you have an XB1 and want to play SFV, you either 1) pay $300 for a PS4 2) pay way more than $300 to get a PC that runs SFV. That's reality. Really, really wanting to play a game doesn't change things.

I want an interviewer to ask Ono "what do you say to people who don't have $60 to buy SFV?" and see the backlash to that.

A PR guy he isn't. There are much more benign ways to answer that question about SFV fans with the "wrong console". Not salty though, just observing.

So I just jumped into Wiki to see what Yoshinori Ono has done for company and I found out he was credited as a publicist for Dino Crisis 2. Weird, you would think the guy would have good PR skills by now.

He clearly states the price of the PS4 which is at a great price right now, ($299 would've sounded better) doesn't say PC because obviously increasing the sales of PS4 consoles is very beneficial, I think he did PRETTY DARN GOOD.

lol, It's just Ono being silly with the answer. Come on, man.

This is the dude does silly shit in everything. I mean, you guys saw that shit in Sony's Paris Games Week conference. omg.

You're right, it's wonderful. This needs to be taught in University business colleges all over the world.

We've learned very well in this gen how responding either to an interview, or in social media, can royally fuck something up. But hey this time it's ok, no backlash needed (as long as you're perceived as "silly" that is)

"We appreciate our fans on other platforms, but we are currently focused on bringing this title to the PS4 and PC only."
It's not rocket science

Sells absolutely no extra console, its neutral af. Gives hope its coming to xbox one. Sorry PR IS ABOUT SELLING BABY. AINT NO PS4's AND PC'S BEING SOLD WITH THAT STATEMENT.

Aren't you a character.

Your PR speak makes it sound like they one day SFV *could* be on XB1 when they decide to "focus" on that platform. Frankly, he should have pulled a Kamiya and told Xbox One owners to beg Sony for a port because Capcom's hands are tied.

The bolded implies that it will be ported to another platform later. That just tells people "so you're saying there's a chance".

This thread is the gift that keeps giving. I honestly can't tell if people are being serious or not or if its just a ruse. Legitimately getting indignant and angry over Ono's comments, lol, tell me your not serious right now. Please.

So, scratch "currently". It's still a more benign way to phrase the response.
Could even add something like, "Unfortunately we cannot please all our fans, but we hope that those fans can find a way to enjoy our game"

Whats with the salt? If you like SF , you buy a PS4 or a PC. Its the truth.

When interviews have usual PR talk , people complain about lack of honesty. When its vice versa , now people WANT PR talk? Theres literally no winning with Gaf.

Ugh, this kills me because Blanka is not even in the starting roster

He should just remain as a Toy Mascot for the entire SF V lifespan.

From the way this statement is framed, it's implying that the Xbone has a chance for a port. It will give them a false hope which does more harm than good. Your hypothetical PR statement is...not good.

That's very disingenuous.

If this game doesn't make 1 million in a week, will Yoshida be spanking Ono with a paddle. :P

Is this what outrage culture looks like. Getting offended at a light joke?

I just don't believe a western developer could get away with this type of response.

If there was a western developer that acts the way Ono acts they would.

Whether you agree with it or not it doesn't matter, it's how he is and why no one cares. Just like how no one takes Ben Carson serious because of his reputation.

O: [Laughs] There’s plenty of time to save $300 before the game comes out. The PlayStation 4 is at a very attractive price point at the moment. [Laughs]
This answer reminds me of how Don Mattrick said about always online X1, if you want an offline console buy a 360.
this is an awful answer looks like

"fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity, it's called Xbox 360"
Did not see this post before i made mine. But sounds like that.

"Super SFV for Xbox One" comments are the best. Human optimism at its most pointless.

Maybe a completely blunt "Nope, never coming to Xbox in any form" would have gone over better.

Sounds more like he was laughing at the question, because it was a really stupid thing to ask.

Also, way to criticize his maturity while ignoring the fact that getting angry about such a harmless comment is itself pretty damn immature.

It's "MGS4 on 360" all over again.
