I'm a sci-fi nerd. Xenoblade has space, mechs, intelligent aliens, alien animals, and a exoplanet for me to explore. I'm not going to 100% Fallout like I thought I would but I'll complete the main story aND as many side missions as possible and save everything else until I get done with Xenoblade Chronicles X.

I don't believe the online is functional for the west yet. It probably won't be until like a day before launch.
 
After reading the previews of a few western sites, i think that this games is going to be a lot bigger in term of score than I thought, everybody is in love with this game.

Seems so but another fucking great game that is going to be ignored by the gaming public. It is a shame, only if it got the sales of something like Fallout 4.

I'm guessing the passive online stuff like finding other players' characters are in, but the coop stuff isn't. Although I think you actually need to unlock coop stuff by doing some of the passive stuff from what I've heard

I have no idea how people would think the opposite. Everybody fucking loved Xenoblade 1, and this seems to be that on steroids. Maybe some changes here and there, but at its core similar.

Some online seems to be working as the GX livestream I'm watching doesn't say offline in the top left and the squad mission part of the screen is active.

This reminds me did NOE not think reviewers would want the data packs (that is the reason why they are up so early in America).

That's probably correct. It's been stated elsewhere but Xenoblade Chronicles X is total information overload. Systems on top of systems on top of systems. It's entirely possible to miss a shitload of potential content and still have a great time with the game.

I'm at thirty hours and, thanks to this thread, just now figured out you can directly control other characters. I figured that option was in there somewhere but it doesn't really surface itself.

I mean I love Bethesda games. But even I agree that something like this seemingly deserves those kind of sales. I haven't played it yet of course. But fuck man. I haven't even bought Fallout 4 yet. But for some reason I'm finding myself hyped as hell for this

Those games all came out on three healthy platforms and this is on one near-dead one, so it never had a chance of coming close to their sales. I think it still has the chance of being a sleeper hit and a respectable success though.

Also a question for those who have played the game: do the NPCs have the same classes and arts as the player character, or are they unique?

Don't have the game myself yet, but I think the other party members have the same classes, but each one has one or two unique arts

There seems to be a common denominator in all these previews: despite playing so many open games this years, the open world in Xenoblade X seems to be the best at inducing the urge for exploring it for the love of exploration and no additional incentives are needed for that.

When I first saw this on thought it didn't look that great but then I saw the huge wide open vistas and the scope of the game and the gameplay and it looks great.

This looks like a instant classic.

These impressions and previews are glowing, but I just can't shake the thought that this isn't going to get great reviews from the western press. Maybe it's not true these days (I don't pay nearly as much attention to mainstream gaming sites as I used to), but I can remember so many times in the past where a glowing preview did not translate into a glowing final review.

I hope I'm soooo wrong (I mean, it's just a hunch) and even if this reviews poorly, I'll be buying it on day one..

History shows games are remembered more for their critical reception and their core fan following than for sales. Yes it's a shame it won't make as much money, but that won't diminish its importance as a great game.

Probably because co-op online mode server is not online, try later when the game will be out since they will be special mission per : server/whatever name that online only has.

Yeah I'm not looking at these previews like a guarantee of critical success. Though the few reviews that have come out have been positive (Nintendoworldreport, Dualshockers, Dengeki), so I'm hopeful.

This is probably true for most people interested in this game, so i don't think mild reviews would impact too much on the game's sales. Basically if you like flying mechs and rpgs this is your game to get. Hopefully they can at least make profit from it. Definitely not excited about some decisions they made with this game but will probably still buy it to support MonolithSoft.
 
It's much like the Xenoblade I knew and loved, with more of the Xenogears-Xenosaga vibe.
I am sold. I just hope there is some way to set tactics for your characters, much like
Dragon Age Origins. Now that would just elevate the combat from great to
outstanding.

Hmm I dunno how I feel about this. On the one hand, I do want to switch characters often, but sometimes in Xenoblade I would find a configuration I like and stick with it for a while.

I suppose it'll make the game have less "fodder" enemies. Even if some of my characters are high level, I can still be challenged by weaker enemies when trying to level new party members.

Though I'm not 100% on how it works.

edit: In retrospect Affinity (and skills I believe) had to be individually grinded in the original, so this probably won't change much for me in terms of character switching.

I assume because they've now added Affinity Quests, so the party members you use for certain quests and scenarios actually matter now. It's also really nice to not overlevel as easily in a game with as much optional content (and overworld to explore) as this one.

Personally, I much prefer having to level characters individually in games. I'm all about more simulation and real-life-over-abstraction, so benched characters magically staying as strong as the guys on the front lines always bugs me.

Also, a lot of the appeal of RPGs is building up my characters, so I guess I hate being robbed of the chance to directly develop each character through use, too.

I think it was primarily (1) that Kotaku's impressions got the most attention over more positive opinions, and (2) Xenoblade's gameplay design caters more to the west than most JRPGs. The first Xenoblade's reception was also, arguably, more glowing in the reviews that came out of Europe than they were in Japan.

Yeah, I imagine that's what they were going for. In the first game, there were a few outliers in each area, but mostly the zones were designed in a linear fashion. The further you progressed in the story, the stronger the monsters became to match up with your levels in the party. In this game however, I guess they have to accommodate the freedom of exploration and include enemies of vastly different levels in most areas, and this change would probably be a by-product of that.

They didn't show any story quests. But they were pretty far along, so they showed off some of the other continents, which can be considered spoilery if you want to experience that on your own. They do warn beforehand about possible character spoilers if you care about that, since they show off the affinity menu.
