Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

I noticed that too. NoE is already in full hype mode tweeting more about this game than about the two coming out next week (deservedly so), while from NoA there is nothing except for Bill RT some of the comments from reviewers.

And yet EU still can't preload. >_>

and not even the data packs are online!

It's really irritating to me as I am flying to the States Sunday and, after years of waiting, will also miss release day. I was hoping I'd at least have the data packs downloaded beforehand. :-(

These previews sound fantastic. Why was the Japanese reception to X so Luke warm?

I don't think that the negative Japanese reception even exist. Both famitsu and dengeki gave the game a positive review so i don't know what the hell these people are taking about. As others have mention, there was the kotaku import preview which was not very positive but that doesn't explain why some people think that it was poorly receive in Japan. As for import reception, dual shockers and nintendo world report both wrote imports reviews which are extremely positive.

So yeah, i have no freaking idea why people started saying that. It's very odd.

Am I correct that if I buy the digital code version from Amazon I won't actually get the digital code until release and so I can't preload...? US Amazon of course (sorry EU!).

A bit? Whens the game released in europe? I thought it was far in the future. Like 4th December something. The wait is killing me :(

4th of December. Which is exactly two weeks away. Seeing how Nintendo updates the eshop, it means practically 2 chances to get the preload.

I can't confirm this since I'm on mobile, but I seem to remember people saying that it only goes through the GamePad when you're in Off-TV mode.

I didn't try yesterday t I can try it tonight. But I think you are right: there is a "GamePad" virtual button on the gamepad, that switch the game from TV to Gamepad, otherwise usually you use the gamepad for many interface uses. in doing the switch, I think the audio change output as well

Not to derail the thread, but has it been confirmed yet if the stuff censored in the US version (boob slider and that one characters outfits) also applies to the EU version?

more importantly: does anyone know if the EU LE has an hard cover for the artbook? We got it for Fatal Frame V, and usually they are hard-covered here, but I'd like a confirmation

So one thing I noticed with the soul voice system. Why do I get the feeling customising the voices is going to be very useful for focusing on certain builds (as opposed to leaving everything on default).

Party members had to be levelled individually in the original game. What would be different is if they took out inactive party members getting reduced experience.
The larger cast makes me worry here but at the same time it might have been intentional for affinity purposes.

Any news on when the data packs will become available on the UK e - store?
NOE: December 6th lol.
You're right, but there is still a bit of time. I hope they don't screw up this.
In any case they've already screwed it up for the reviewers. They did the same for Code Name S.T.E.A.M. Not bother loading the 1.1 patch early so EU reviews would not have "cons: slow ass enemy turns". So expect a lot of the EU reviews to unnecessarily complain about pop-in and loading times for this game.

Exactly - everyone focused on that one negative preview while ignoring all the positive things said about the game by other outlets.

Also, we need to keep in mind that in English, a lot of the story/side-plots/dialogue is much more clear for people playing now, so they might be enjoying it a lot more.

Don't the reviewers get download codes?

NOA definitely sent out discs and I believe NOE usually do as well (things like Splatoon and Mario Maker where the review copies ran on different servers seem like exceptions). But yes it is true that I don't know.

So...they have it on Download.

When are the reviews for the game coming?

Edit: are there other big games coming on November 4th that would make gamestop have a midnight release? Cause if so I would show up for xeno xD

It is a hard cover, but the art book that Europe is getting is a localized version of the one Japan got. It's 48 pages long and on the small side, versus the 100+ pages and larger format of the US art book.

Does anyone know if the guide book actually covers every single quest and where to find all the items/enemies? I feel like the book would be massive if it did that. I'm tempted to buy it simply because if the sidequests are anything like Xenoblade, it doesn't always give you the most useful information to find stuff (and looking up where certain NPCs were at certain times of the day was pretty annoying). I know there is now a way marker type thing to find quest objectives, but it doesn't work on every quest apparently.

I don't know if it was this thread or another one, but someone had mentioned that the strategy guide is looking to be 500+ pages. For comparison's sake, Fallout 4's guide is roughly the same size, and that's really comprehensive already.

Game pad is how I get the audio to my headphones so I guess I have to buy an audio extracter if I want to use them.

EDIT!!! Ignore all the previous junk, I got an answer from an unseen Preview:

What They Call Games' Xenoblade Chronicles X Preview Coverage

Does the game audio play on the GamePad when playing on the TV? - No, the GamePad only plays the "beep boops" of using FrontierNav on the GamePad, but if you switch the screen to have the gameplay on the GamePad, it will play all of the game audio.

XCX's guide is 528 pages. Fallout 4's is 543 pages. Assuming they pack the information well, there's going to be a ton of stuff in there.

thank you very much. so smaller but harder (said like this...it sounds...weird!)

We keep hearing "End of the Month"

let's say...very end of the month.

NOA definitely sent out discs and I believe NOE usually do as well (things like Splatoon and Mario Maker where the review copies ran on different servers seem like exceptions). But yes it is true that I don't know.

NoE doesn't send out discs since...2013, I think. At least, from my direct experience.

Bigger than Fallout 4, Skyrim and The Witcher 3 combined? Is this legit or hyperbole? Also, how does it compare in terms of denseness, detail, unique places environmental storytelling, etc?

I ask not in an attempt to deride XCX, but because I didn't play the original and haven't followed this one that closely.

I mean, if (IF) it's a super large a pretty world that is mostly empty is that better? But if it's really that large with all the bells and whistles then that is most impressive.

Legit, it's 400km2 vs 140+40+40.

And it's not empty, it's more like the previous Xenoblade so the open world design and "balance" is obviously very different from what Fallout or Skyrim do.

NOE: December 6th lol.
Haha you're joking right?

Yep, i can confirm they send download codes.

Yep!

Honestly, I don't know how to check if with the game I've downloaded all the data packs. How should I?

The data packs are actually a workaround specifically for the disc version. You don't need them for the digital version, as everything is on the flash/hdd already.

Oh interesting. That sounds like a lottttt. I doubt it covers all the basic missions though (which I don't know how many of those I plan on doing anyways).

Do we know how hard it is to get money in the game? I've heard the Skells are super expensive.

I've heard when you set up probes, they start to gather money for you automatically as time passes. I think you can also customize probes further to do stuff like grant buffs within the area, mine more miranium, or provide more money

I heard once you get a good spread of your frontier net, money is not really that big of an issue. Besides there is a lots of ways to earn money.

Cool. I guess some of those comparisons to the Assassin's Creed money systems hold true (like how you'd upgrade shops in the older games to start raking in more money, the more shops you bought, the more money you got every little bit). I have a feeling I'm gonna be leaving my Wii U on for a while to process that stuff. :P

Why is that?
USBs still cannot handle the amount of total read/writes that an HDD can, though technology has improved greatly in that regard. It is just a little unsafe and is not recommended by Nintendo, just like Y-cable attachments are (what I use btw).

The only officially recommended combination is a HDD with an external power source.

Why is that?

Cheaper USB Flash drives tend to be unbelievably crappy. They tend to not handle random reads/writes well and can often wear out quicker than they should. A good enough Flash drive would be fine in theory, but figuring out where to draw the line is difficult.
