So Buu and Piccolo and a mystery Strong Fighter aren't good enough?

Also KRILLIN?!

The majority [from what I can tell just in general, not just GAF]
wanted Gohan to be included, they got Buu and Piccolo
which is still cool but it ain't that. It ain't just some small pocket of fandom, there's been so much optimism and hope that Gohan becomes a major player again literally everywhere.

Sure, but I was only addressing your point that "people wanted someone different". Well, we got that!

Also I hope some evil wizard casts a spell on Gohan that makes him like 80 years old so he can't ever fight again.

He was on the color cover page of the first chapter of Super along with Goku and Vegeta so those hopes weren't exactly unfounded.

hmm, the whole deal with how Freeza's stay in hell was handled in actual canon has made me wonder about Cell. will they try to bring him back like Freeza or will they go the Kid Buu route?
Cell with training could become a beast since he never had intense training and look how that training powered up Freeza.
if they go the Kid buu route, that wouldn't be good since Kid Buu was stronger already, meaning that Uub would make any potential reincarnation of Cell pointless. also, there's no one alive that wants Cell back (Freeza had his empire still being around)

There could be some remaining RR soldier who wants to see the banner fly again who revives Cell. Or, some opponent of Mr. Satan asks to revive the one person who has beaten him.

Gohan got two chances to be relevant again once in the Cell saga and then again, in the Buu saga both times he slacked off and got weaker.

He doesn't seem to be a fighter at the end of Z, so I think it's time to let the character be a scholar and stay in the background and let some new blood take over.

The faster the Saiyans become irrelevant the better in my book.

I don't think there'll be a Return of Cell. Even before RoF, Freeza always was strangely relevant in the modern DBZ content. The anniversary special used two former Freeza commanders that greatly powered up after his death; Neko Majin, before the last chapter, took place in some odd version of the Freeza/Saiyan Sagas, where Super Saiyans work for Freeza and he had a son (then the last chapter was suddenly post-Buu and had nothing to do with the earlier stories). Episode of Bardock introduced Freeza's ancestor and had a different confrontation between Freeza and Bardock in the manga. Beerus randomly brought up Freeza as a measuring stick in Battle of Gods and there was also the retcon about him asking Freeza to destroy Planet Vegeta. Then, there was also Dragonball Minus, yet again retelling those earlier years with Freeza in power.

Cell (and the Red Ribbon in general) basically has gotten nothing. I can't see him coming out of nowhere. I guess there's a small chance he could exist in Universe 6 - maybe if the war that destroyed Earth involved the Red Ribbon they created a version of Cell there somehow and he survived humanity's extinction. But, still, at this point, that all seems extremely unlikely.

that's really weird. seems like a specific, intended change from the movie to the tv series.

I'm not sure about that. Tarble was just an inconsequential name drop, and so far Super seems to be assuming that the viewer watched Dragonball Kai, but that's it. Note how Pillaf and crew have been handled basically as new characters.

Cell needs to stay dead. Worst DBZ villian. Always hated villains that's entire move set is based of every character.

Screw wanting Krillin. We all know the strongest and most deserving human that should be in the u6 tournament should be Tien. Hopefully Buu fails the test and Tien gets in. He's always training and should be stronger at this point. Have him train with Whis

Why not both?

The fuck? Frieza and Cell are the only two good villains in Z and GT series. They were both very intelligent and fierce antagonists.

Everything about the Buu saga sucked ASS.
Actually Dabura was pretty awesome conceptually

Gohan ain't coming back guys, he ain't achieving SSB and he ain't fighting in that tournament. He's gonna be left on Earth when the tournament hits, Namek style.

It's not that I can't see the logic behind these words, but I hope you eat crow. And I mean that non confrontationally

And I bet Mr Satan is going to go as their cheer squad and Earth representative, Bulma-style.

The only people eating crow will likely be anyone thinking Gohan wants a piece of the tournament.

The Buu saga had many good parts, including what I consider the only well-executed emotional moment in the show (Vegeta's sacrifice).

Cell was far better than Buu but his motivations were also kind of meh, and he had barely any history. I actually think Beerus and Whis are the best new characters since Future Trunks.

Srsly tho, I'm glad Piccolo and Buu are getting some spotlight action. I thought they were both done - especially Buu considering he had transformations and stuff before.

Dabura was awesome and should have had his own saga. Majin Fat Buu was great too. Super Buu was ok and Kid Buu was just whatever. Frieza is the GOAT villian followed by the Red Ribbon Army.

Cell Saga remains the peak of DBZ, in my opinion. I loved everything about it and everything after never reached the same heights.

Damn you Toriyama.

Tien having a shit load of techniques is what makes him great. It would be hype to see him pull out the evil containment wave on Universe 6 or come up with something new.
Everyone copied like all his Tien's cool techniques except for the one that kills him and the arm thing Toriyama forgot.

Beyond the techniques I really loved how Tien would make his attacks look like they hit hard. He seemed to show the most intensity through his attacks by either hitting very hard or by concentrating a lot of his energy into a single move. A lot of his moves carried weight that you don't see from the rest of the Z fighters.

Yeah this didn't do shit, but it sounded like he would have fucked him up.

Yamcha knows what I'm talking about

Frieza is indeed the GOAT, but I will say there were some awesome Cell moments (Goku with the instantaneous movement Kamehameha and Gohan going ham.) I didn't care much for the Buu saga, but I did enjoy the animation for the Goku/Majin Vegeta fight. That was killer.

Also, I know it's a meme and cliche, but Yamcha always felt like an intentional joke character to me. He was so useless. They should've left his ass with Korin to farm senzu beans and at least kept Yajirobe around. He was able to body an oozaru Vegeta at least.

I remember seeing it for the first time... there was a lot of tension and mystery between future Trunks, the Androids and of course the eventual battle with Cell. Not only that, but seeing other characters get their chance to actually do things was great too. Just a well rounded arc, all things considered.

I really loved Namek because it had a cool 3 way faction war.

Frieza's army vs Gohan and Krillin vs wild card Vegeta. Fuck you Ginyus, making Vegeta team up with those punks.

I'm partial to the Saiyan saga because after that the series started to change a lot and it was a good climax before that shift happened.

Saiyan saga was the best for me. The Goku vs Vegata fight is probably what made many fans of the series to begin with... I know it did for me.

Cell saga definitely had a lot of epic moments or just crazy bat shit insane DBZ moments. I can easily make a top 10 list moments from Cell saga.

*Trunks one shots Frieza in the opening of the saga while going Super Saiyan.

*Android 18 crushes Vegeta with ease. Pride shattered after attaining Super Saiyan.

*On the reverse end, Vegeta dismembering Android 19 was satisfying as hell.

*Piccolo vs Android 17 fight. Plus Piccolo in general flexing his muscles after the power up was godlike even though he was only the strongest being for like half a day.

*Gohan going SSJ2 + the Gohan vs Cell beam struggle + Gohan instantly one mans the Cell Jrs. Definitely top 3 beam struggle in the series as well.

*Everything related to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Especially when Goku comes out and declares himself stronger than Vegeta and Vegeta getting legit shook.

*Goku vs Cell (the 2nd episode of the fight I believe) is probably the best animated fight in the entire series. That definitely felt like a battle of the gods, it's just too bad it was so short lived.

*Goku dies to save earth from Cell. Some feels were had even though you knew it was DBZ and he would be back.

Though there was a lot of silly stuff in Cell saga as well.

I'd say that everything from Android to the end of the Cell Saga is the best stretch the show has ever gone.

Setting the tone quick and strong by humiliating Freiza right off the bat. Almost everyone got time to shine, even Krillin and Tien. Cool new characters such as Future Trunks and #16.

Most of the main loose ends were tied up such as Piccolo/Kami and Gohan's hidden power - toppled with Goku dying and accepting his death instead of wanting to come back and the son taking the Fathers role was the perfect ending. The only main lingering question really was Vegeta - if some of his stuff from Buu Saga was brought over, it would of been an even better end.

I liked the sense of Cell slowly getting stronger instead of Frieza just having all that power in the beginning.
