Play-Asia says SJWs to blame for DOAX3 not coming west

Uh, that's a way to get a few more sales from a... particular audience, I guess...

It's almost as if very few people cared about this game and manufacturing a controversy could be a way to entice buyers of a certain ilk that weren't ever going to consider this product in this first place.

No one I know on Twitter knew at all that DOAX3 even existed but now they do. They learned from Play-Asia and also want nothing to do with Play-Asia after the SJW stuff. Top it off, they still don't care about the boobies in the game and are overall just meh.

Nobody has really answered why to this. I'd like to know other's takes on different times a company said some(way worse) controversy stuff

People all over the world make the decision to stop buying from companies or stores all the time for all kinds of reasons, this can't possibly be some kind of actual surprise to you.

- You suggested that "nobody" complained about the game (which has yet to be released).
- I posted a many links in response to your claim that clearly illustrate a pattern of people complaining about the DOA series in the past.
- Your response was that the games deserve the criticism and that the people complaining about them were in the right.

That's... not at all what I said?

I said the game is pandering trash because it is -- I don't think anyone who's a fan would argue with this unless they were just arguing for argument's sake, because it exists to "gratify or indulge a distasteful need" and is "tastelessly or ostentatiously showy." It is not classy material, it's unapologetically softcore puerile nonsense that exists to let people look at titties while they play a volleyball game.

I made two other claims, both of which are self-evidently correct. First, that nobody has complained about this current game, so there's no evidence of some kind of unusual shitstorm brewing over it or that its reception will be atypically negative. Second, that everyone is already aware that this is a sophomorically sexualized game which is criticized for that with every outing, but whose sales are never affected by that critique, so there's no reason to assume that this game being criticized at the same level it has always been criticized before will somehow magically become a business problem only on this latest outing.

wait what are the sides?

When it was first announced it was K - T PR versus a strawman that they feared "controversy" if the game was released.

Now that Brietbart has picked up the news its essentially GamerGate versus the Feminism Monster that exists in their head.

Note that no one forced K - T not to release the game or even said much about it. K - T made a business decision not bring it to the West and tried to cover for it by blaming a potential backlash.

The usual suspects ate it up.

Anyone who uses the term SJW, especially pejoratively, loses whatever business I have to give. I'm only one guy, but hopefully others with a similar point of view will do likewise.

Some issues are more important to different people than others. You are being really dismissive with your whole "oh this thing that bothers you is trivial compared to all those things that bother me."

If this issue was as important as some people here are claiming it is, then several games mentioned earlier wouldn't have come out in the states at all (not financially viable), MGS V and Witcher 3 wouldn't have been two of the top selling games of the year, and DOA 5 LR wouldn't have had over 4 million downloads. The three games I mentioned all came out this year.

Though, a company (or a person) actually using the term, SJW, as a pejorative is a pretty shitty thing to do, regardless of who you're repping

Your guess is as good as mine. I just have had it float around in my mind as of lately. I'm pretty passionate about not censoring video games and I'm against getting rid of adult content altogether.

Today I brought it up on my own free will and started analyzing how I associated censorship and how GG was even part of my enjoyment of games. I probably won't use the term again unless it's to break apart its fabric and mold it into something better. I for one have played DOAX, but I've mostly stuck it out with the fighting series. I do remember the Xbox version sitting in a bin at GameStop and other various iterations. I know there are also hardcore fans of DOA and its cast. I'm sure some are even into this as an actual volleyball game (with or without the sexual tones); the game needs to be playable otherwise it falls into the laundry basket of obscure adult video games.

Okay, maybe I shouldn't have been indirect.

We know Gamergate exists because they congregate, and create materials to spread their group's ideas and identity. When I ask "was their existence ever in question", I mean that it isn't, and you'd have to either be out of touch with gaming culture right now (which is kind of strange for a NeoGAF member) or delusional to think that they don't.

I have absolutely no idea what thoughts you are trying to express, but that just stood out to me as a the silliest of them.

A friend who used Play-asia to buy Canadian Eshop cards with Paypal money REALLY wants an alternative ... anyone knows another place ?

I imagine nobody bought from sony after they told fans to get another job. Or Microsofts we have a product for people with no internet crap. Fallout being buggy mess had to make people go i wont buy this anymore. Or how about all the low content AAA releases. Not saying people are wrong just find it funny something like a tweet can set that reaction off

I didn't buy Sony for 5 years even before that, mostly due to them crushing Bleem and Lik Sang under legal fees, despite losing in court. Haven't bought MS since then, but they're under new management now anyway. I've never had issue with Bethesda games because they're fantastic and I don't buy low content AAA releases unless I can get them cheap and sell them at a profit like I did The Order.

decent human being

Again, not gonna go into this too much, just gonna say their are horrible people within every community. It's statistically impossible for your answer to be even close to the mark. Trying to brand either side of the argument into a group which you bolster as 'good' and 'evil' is entirely counter productive. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that this alone is also slowing any progress as it only fuels a fire we don't need.

As with any group, there are people with radical views on all sides. Somewhere in the middle is a large group of people who have different opinions but share a will to listen to each others. These are the people who will be able to do something more than cause a shouting match. To believe otherwise is to ignore history, and as they say, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

I'm a pretty tiny client, but I have bought from them a handful of times:

EfoYnJJ.png

And I'll do it again if there's a good deal, but by default, I'll look at other stores first (because really, Play-Asia is pretty expensive too).

I've bought from Play-Asia a few times myself but have been doing so for many years so I always assumed them to be one of the cheaper options (they used to be a long time ago), I guess habit has just made me not look into it any further. Do you have any other sites you can reccommend?

I was kinda on the fence about this game but this controversy has convinced me it's a must buy lol.

The people that would boycott them for this aren't exactly the kind of people that buy things from play asia.

How so? I've bought things from them before. I've ordered from superufo, amiami, amazon.jp. Gasp, even some porny visual novels! Is that Senran Kagura on my shelf? :0 whoa

They're over-priced and not selling anything unique, so it's easy to take three minutes to check other websites. They could have said they don't like cats and really make it easy for me.

Amiami tends to be best price wise if you're looking for JP stuff. Amazon.jp can be good (and sells out of stuff much less quickly, but you need a forwarder since they won't actually ship games to addresses outside Japan. Yes Asia if you need Asia region.

Superufo has good prices on consoles and some accessories (I think I ended up getting my New 3DS for like 140-ish USD from them when all was said and done?). Once I get on my PC I can check my bookmarks, I can't recall every website I've got there.

Edit: whoops I'm not sure if you were asking for websites to import from or for the Asian region release of this game in particular. I don't buy much Asian region stuff but I'll keep an eye out.

Well shit argument refuted than lol thx for answering kindly btw sorry if i came of dickish didn't mean it *bows

It was already done that way before GG.
Years before, in fact.

Urban Dictionary: SJW
Top definition is the same thing that GGers (and many others) are trying to say when they type SJW. This definition is from very early 2012 which is to say that the very latest that this term could have been starting to spread is sometime in 2011.
Its nothing to do with GG other than people wanting to make it be associated with GG when it really isn't.

Why does this distinction matter so much to you? The term has been heavily co-opted by that hate group so what are you even arguing at this point?

And I for one, would be SHOCKED to find out that a japanese import site employs a GGer. Shocked.

After that article about Dracula being a rapist, I stopped paying any attention to USgamer

That article was dumb, but they do good work. You should give them another try, that was almost 2 years ago.

I dunno. I ordered from Play-Asia quite a few times, but I don't really feel like giving them business anymore.

Wait, I don't think we are talking about the same thing. I'm talking about how people don't want to buy from Play-Asia anymore because of the SJW-blaming. And nobody is saying that this is an universally important issue for humanity or something. I just have problem with the "this can't actually be this important to you" sentiment.

It's important to note that if anything feminist critics are more forgiving towards DOA because it doesn't pretend to be anything other than it is. It's not like the ever-growing breasts of Cortana in the Halo series, because that character is meant to be a serious character.

The responses I've seen to the series have ranged from dismissal, to amusement, to acceptance. I've never personally seen people foaming at the mouth trying to get the games banned.

soundin a little touchy here, u ok bud?

Meh, I mean are they wrong?

I don't really care never played a DOA Volleyball whateverthefuck game, if I need to jerk off I have real porn to manage that. But, I'm not really sure why people get so upset over the series at least the game doesn't try to hide what it is. If a gaming company wants to basically release video game porn to men then let them, not really a controversy to me.

That said, I do find those tweets hilarious. "Silly Western fools, thanks to you liberal crusaders none of you will get to enjoy wonderful softcore beach volleyball video game titty porn. FOOLS!"

it's one thing for some niche indie studio to put out a borderline erotic game, it's another for a major game studio taking characters from a somewhat major gaming franchise and putting them in a game like this. would it be ok if square enix put out a tomb raider bikini volleyball game?

They're not wrong.

As humans, we do not all have the right to not be offended by something that other people may enjoy.

I'm gay and I actually enjoyed the gameplay of the first game and I liked collecting the outfits and accessories for the game. Does that says I'm a pervert despite feeling no attraction to the material in the game?

Are people really starting to boycott them over this? First world problems.

I'd have no issue with keeping buying from them if they had games I wanted and if their competitors weren't cheaper.

Why does this distinction matter so much to you? The term has been heavily co-opted by that hate group so what are you even arguing at this point?

Mostly because what you've just typed here is a bold-faced lie and I'm not of the mind that lying helps anyone's cause.
Its actually heavily used by many people who have never heard of GamerGate and had been before it even existed. To claim that use of a term that's unrelated to GG is necessarily an attempt to court GG is nonsensical at best.

I actually enjoy the series as a fun volley ball game that lets me collect bikinis like Pokemon and can't wait for it to come to the US.

Not buying from them again is the least you can do. By that I mean instead of boycotting Play-Asia for sexist games shouldn't we boycott Japan because of sexist games?

Then you are supporting the patriarchy and people who spout hate speech.

Man getting all the outfits takes so many damn hours I can see why compare it to Pokemon.

I don't think anyone is boycotting because they are selling the game but rather the tweets themselves (That's why I am).

Human, probably.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. I actually never heard about this term before this thread, so I didn't know that this seems to be quite an offensive thing.
What I was asking is like a term representing the group of people who are heavily motivated into promoting humanitarian ideas. I'm just curious if there is a simple term for those people, just like how vegetarian are people who don't eat meat.

Seems weird to say this when the term SJW existed (with this connotation) before GamerGate was even thought of.

SJW was an academic/activist in-group term for the type of annoying, lacking-in-perspective person who flips out about minor stuff and picks fights with everyone else they should be working together with over minor doctrinal differences. It's really only in the last year or so that it's been so thoroughly repurposed to refer to anyone who isn't actively in favor of racism/sexism/etc.

But, I'm not really sure why people get so upset over the series at least the game doesn't try to hide what it is.

Who are these people that are upset about DOAX3? Be as specific as possible.

I'm gay and I actually enjoyed the gameplay of the first game and I liked collecting the outfits and accessories for the game. Does that says I'm a pervert despite feeling no attraction to the material in the game?

You're most likely an outlier, but DOA is different to DOAX. DOA at least has sound gameplay systems beyond the slick veneer of wobbly boobs.

Unless you're referring to DOAX, then I dunno. That's weird.

Nobody is "upset" about it. Tecmo are welcome to release their pandering trash videogame in the west should they choose to. Plenty of other game companies manage to release their pervy shovelware without incident and DOA X doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't so nobody really cares. I find Princess Peach constantly getting kidnapped more harmful frankly.

The controversy is completely manufactured by Tecmo for publicity reasons.
