Do you like the name "NX" or do you think Nintendo should change it?

I always think of Enterprise NX-01 from Star Trek: Enterprise when I hear the name.

I think Siemens probably own the "NX" copyright, it's a software for cars or something.

It'll have a different name. We'll all think it's a bit silly, but soon grow accustomed to it.

This thread also reminds me that people actually wanted a console named "Revolution". :lol

Well we've had almost a decade to get used to the name "Wii" by now, at the time everyone was confused by it, and most people thought it was weird or bad, so in the light of that bombshell Revolution didn't sound so bad

Also we all know NX is a codename (which it says in the OP anyway) and they do always change them in the end, but the thread is asking if you like the name NX for the next system

I think it's a decent name, if that was the final name I'd be pretty happy, I was curious as to what others thought

Call it the NEX(T), like NES but with that X factor. Get that retro audience on board.

Nintendo Entertainment eXperience (Terminal for the home console).

Hell, use the XenoBlade "X" in the logo for continuity's sake!

It will and should change. "NX" doesn't really convey any meaning, at least not to the layman. You might say that "DS" doesn't either, but I think it's easier to imagine that standing for "dual screens" (which I know isn't the full official explanation).

It's just a codename.
Gamecube was Project Dolphin
Wii was Project Revolution
Wii U was Project Cafe

There is a chance they'll keep it, but right now we'll just wait and see.

Now that I think about it, Nintendo has actually been fond of such names in the past.

"NES"

"Super NES"

"Nintendo DS"

There's already an Xbox. Why would Nintendo include an "X" in their console naming? They'll need to offer up something different.

Nintendo is going to change it. :(

Dolphin -> gamecube
Revolution (awesome name) -> Wii
Cafe -> Wii U......
NX -> Wii U2 as in "You too can play"

Also, I thought that "X" names were a thing of the early 2000s.

Nintendo XPii and XPoo

I've got used to the NX name, and I like it... but I can't see them sticking with it.

Would cool to see them stick with a similar format though, a la 'N64'. Not sure what they could reference in the name though.

I like the sound of it off the tongue, but feel like it sounds too much like an upgrade to an existing product to use in the wild.

It's not going to be called NX, the same way Wii U was not called Project Cafe, Wii was not called Revolution, GameCube was not called Dolphin, Nintendo 64 was not called Project Reality, etc...

Yeah, we know, but then again that's not what the thread is asking

How would you feel if the new system was simply called the Nintendo NX?

Question is stupid because it is, as you stated, a codename. You can speculate on that but this is as stupid as arguing about the next Xbox being called PS5.

Yeah, we know, but then again that's not what the thread is asking

What you ask is nonsense. "Do you think Nintendo should change it ?" -> Nintendo will not even change it, Nintendo will reveal the commercial/official name.

I like NX but they will change it. I hope it's something in the vein of the gamecube/gb Advance like Nintendo GameCross or Nintendo NeXt or Super Nextendo or anything but "wii-" something...

Without bothering to Google sourced info...

The codename for the DS was the DS.
In development it stood for "Developer System" (or something like that), but they liked the sound of it and changed the meaning to "Dual Screen" for the official naming.

I can't wait to but a Nintendo NX and put it next to my PlayStation Orbus and Xbox Durango.

In all seriousness I think anything is fine as long as they cut all ties to the Wii brand

I think it's a great, clean name that describes the concept (Nintendo across multiple platforms) and they should keep it

but they'll probably end up calling it New Wii U+

If they keep the name wii at all for the next system, someone up high needs to get fired. Part of the reason the wiiu was a flop was because of branding confusion related to the name.

If it is a portable/console hybrid maybe theyll name it 'The Nintendo Duo' or something like that.

It's gonna have an abomination of a name. Like Niibo or Nintendo Miibo.

I like NX. I'd be cool just calling it the Nintendo and the handheld the NintendoGo.
