Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Everyone keeps saying they are going to set the record straight, but I highly doubt they'll heavily modify a bunch of plot points save time lines and when people meet up. Despite the SF canon being thin as fuck in the games, there's a bunch in artbooks and all that where Capcom goes into extensive, weird detail.

It doesn't matter, though. Not like anything else needs to be retcon heavily. And 3 is lolnothinghappens anyway.
I don't think they'd modify too much, just actually present all those details (the ones that matter) in the game for once.

God I don't think I will be coming back to this thread anymore. I left here like 3 weeks ago because of all of the SFIII hate, and come back to more SFIII hate. I would love to argue why SFIII is good, story and all but it seems like once people here decide to hate something, they are going to stick to those guns till the death. Got to love hive-mind mentality.

Also, Gill is a awesome as shit name.

You're being dramatic

There's over 50+ characters to choose from, would at least add some interesting element to the story instead of everyone surviving Akuma's raging demon. Also gives some motivation to characters, etc.

So? Letting story guide gameplay is a horrible idea, especially in fighting games. And characters can be motivated to fight beyond the death of someone. Ryu's whole journey isn't based on revenge but about the fight itself.

You can't just nut up and ignore the hate/other people's opinions? Sounds like the internet isn't for you.

I REALLY hope they show who made it to the finals in 2. That'd be real nice.

Street Fighter's lore is like what would happen if you dragged out BlazBlue's Librarium Centric story arc for twenty years, but without the insipid anime tropes that hook even those of us (yeah, guilty as charged lol) who should know better. Shit gets tired as fuck when the story has revolved around the same cast we've seen since Bill Clinton was president. Third Strike's refreshed cast and evil organization didn't change much because hardly anyone played it in that transitional period between arcades and consoles anyway.

The tutorial footage leads me to believe we'll just get the stock world warrior centric story leading into whatever happened in Alpha. Basically, the last fifteen years of SF lore have meant about as much as one of Ono's trolls because they'll never escape the SF2 shadow. It's like a fighting game equivalent of Groundhog day.

Dramabombs

The fight itself is a boring motivator. Did you see that SFV tutorial? I do hope they go through the entire SF history like MK 9 did with their story mode though.

We can't even criticize SF3's story now? And people wonder why SF3 fans are generalized as being asinine in this thread, you certainly aren't helping.

Theres no point to argue about sf3 stuff anymore since we have Urien ;D
He really is the only character in 3 that matters tbh.

And again there was a story in sf3?

Cmon guys stop with this shit I know we haven't seen fan but I doubt capcom cares about the story to sf3 that they will make sfv to make sense around it

I think it's out of character. Bison rarely ever fights, Birdie is here for the money, Charile is an edgelord but not really evil, and Fan sounds like comic relief. Necaili will probably take souls or something and have to be stopped, but I don't see him killing people off.

Theres more but I dont care since I at least have somebody worth playing now. The others can wait.

If they can change their gameplay why can't they change how they are?

What if bison starts to get his hands more dirty now that he's down on shadoloo general? Birdie is in it for the food (I mean not really since he can just make bananas, sodas and huge donuts appear out of nowhere), Charlie is in fact an edgelord but he used to be a cocky nerd, fan sounds like the duck dad from kungfu panda

I'm sure capcom will deliver

Bison and Necaili are the only people willing to go that far. But who else would need to change? Ryu gonna start finishing people off? Mika going for the kill after a devastating buttslam?

SF3 fans in general have a large inferiority complex and can't get past the fact the game they love killed SF for a decade.
He may be acting dramatic, but this is a straight up shitpost, and as someone who enjoys the entire series and can't be lumped into this weird "3S fans" category that has been invented here (like these people just like 3S and nothing else), I'm having trouble seeing what posts in this thread have warranted such a snarky response.

I'm repeating myself at this point, but the people calling out "3S fans" for ruining the thread or whatever are worse to me than the people who were trying to invent insane theories about how Urien and Alex fit into the initial roster. Lots of people are contributing to making this thread generally hard to read, and it isn't just "3S fans".

Except that it is factually bullshit, there were plenty of SF games after SFIII, you just do not bother looking them up or playing them. Capcom got swayed in the 3d rage, there were EX games and there were VS games after, which indeed got low sales after low sales, and Capcom never gave a thought to prioritizing budget in a way that supports a potential SF comeback until the 360/PS3 generation. So no, SFIII did not kill anything.

Thank you for actually having an open mind when it comes to bullshit like this.

EDIT:

i think one thing that probably makes sf3 fans so twitchy is all the bullshit people who have no idea about the game like to claim about it, be it shit like this, or talk about the gameplay/meta, etc. there's just so much regurgitation of weirdly dismissive myths about 3s for some reason.

This is also very true. The reason some of us get pissy is because usually the people giving us shit are absolutley clueless as to what they're even talking about.

Optimus Prime brutally killing Megatron as he begs for forgiveness? :P

On the topic of fighting games and stories, I'm surprised none of them ever tried to blend sidescrolling beatemup or Odin Sphere exploration into it as being able to wander about until a fight starts then locking the screen to the arena's boundaries could've made it feel like a more consistent world and allowed for some interesting stuff. Think the closest I've seen to this is probably Tekken's Force mode but that had a really bizarre execution to it and the fighting wasn't really tekken :s

Can someone just tell me if the DLC characters will have their own story mode stuff or will they just be additional characters for vs modes

Also what's the best anime to watch for lore

For anime, they all sort of do their own thing and they're all pretty different than the games. Sf2: The Animated Movie is the go to. I believe SFIV The Ties That Bind is canon, I think it came with copies of SFIV. Other than that if you want lore hit up Youtube abd Wikipedia.

I said all of that as a 3S fan. It's just an observation. All the talk about Capcom ignoring 3S despite all of those 3S characters? I like 3S but its fans definitely don't do the game service a lot of the time. With that said, sorry for bringing it up.

For SF story, wiki and YouTube are your friends.

No thanks. That means we won't see characters in the actual game and that's dumb.

I would be perfectly okay with them having "legacy characters". Ones that are dead in the story line, but are still playable character. For arcade mode they could have "what if" stories.

I agree that they should never remove characters from the playable roster completely, but the story doesn't have to dictate that roster all the time.

That is definitely not too far off now, but I can remember a time, not too long ago, that Third Strike fans had a superiority complex. It seemed like a lot of people would praise Third Strike by default just because it was seen as the ultimate fighting game. People would argue wacky things, like Third Strike having perfect balance.

I am not shitting on Third Strike itself, by the way. I love that game.

Changing direction would be weird.

To me at least the barrel mini game in IV gets me fucked up

Also to the person who talked about seeing arguments about sf3 having perfect balance, you got an image or something? I want someone to explain dem 8-2s

I expect a reveal at Capcom Cup, followed by an exhibition.

I think the same. Reveal at PSX then demo at Capcom Cup like Scotia says.

With the wait for Fan's reveal in mind, the timing of Dhalsim's reveal is strange to me in retrospect. While Paris Games Week is a big deal, the timing of Gief, Rashid and Laura's reveals suggested he's be shown at the Indian Games Expo. But because he was shown at PGW, as a result there's a big gap between his reveal and Capcom Cup/PSX.

CC gonna be very underwhelming in general. 1 day event with a few hours of gameplay. lol

Gonna struggle to match majors in viewership and will likely not even reach last year's CC viewer peak. This year's scheduling is straight gutter trash.

Tekken and KOF have shown you can kill off characters in a fighting game without alienating your fans/players.

Movesets/fighting styles can always be passed on to "new" characters. I guess from a marketing perspective though they want the same familiar SF2 characters alive forever to bank on recognition/nostalgia

There is no pattern to character reveals. They made characters, then picked events to reveal them, not vice versa. Capcom doesn't care about a month gap, because there is no character they need to reveal.

Well, within the fights facing would just work as normal and you'd only fight 1 enemy at a time (though you could queue them up in certain scenarios like the bridge fight in the original Soul Calibur where you had to beat a horde of lizardmen :3 )
But in 'exploration mode' you'd just face whatever direction you're moving.

It can work, as in the examples you gave... or you can totally mess it up and end up with Soul Calibur V instead :P

Is there a SFV exhibition on schedule for the Capcup? With all the top players there and all the characters being playable it seems like a no brainier.

Most of the shit talking on SF3 Is not because people don't like the game, SF3 fans are just easy to wind up and melodramatic so people are taking potshots at easy targets.

don't apologize. i'll stand with you on that observation.

Fan can either be amazing or boring. I hope Capcom hasn't left us with a dud character for the final reveal.

Depends on what you think is amazing or boring. What might be boring to you might be amazing for others.

I'm personally hoping he's some kind of arrogant Chinese scholar.
