Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

No idea. I've posted the relevant quotes here from the review in spoiler tags below (not really spoilers for anything, but I don't know the standards of the people who read this thread):
Pretty sure there's nothing like that in the game(unfortunately). The only thing that's even remotely related, is that some of the clients for simple quests(from the quest board) are the divisions themselves, but that doesn't actually affect anything as far as I'm aware.

Also these 'perk' things that the first survival guide spoke of, those aren't static buffs you get during your time under that division. When you're online and someone comes across your character, they can choose 'division support' instead of scouting a copy of your character into their party. I'm almost certain that that means they're potentially providing their buff to you, but I haven't tested for exact details or seen anything written about it online.

If you look to the top right of in-game screens, you'll see all of the division icons below the minimap/radar. The enlarged one on the right is your current division, and any lit icons to the left of that are division supports available from other people online(here, Interceptors is lit, while I'm in Reclaimers). During battle you might randomly get one of the 'perks' corresponding to a lit icon. The 'perk' will show up by the rest of your buffs/debuffs in the top left when it's active, and uses the division's icon.

It's anyone's guess why they tried to make all those claims in the survival guide.

Oh, thank you. That's really helpful. So what does choosing a division impact in your own game? Does it determine what actions earn you Division Points for? Or something else? And what are Division Points for? I saw a screen from a gameplay preview where it had a listing of how many points every division had and it was broken down by days. I didn't understand what I was looking at or how that works.

No need to answer all those questions. I just figured I'd put them out there in case someone knowledgeable reads it and has a chance to respond. I'm fine waiting for the game to release to get my answers.

Hey CAAAAAAAAAAW thanks for answering my earlier question about references to past Xeno games.

Are the references mostly in the story missions or the affinity missions.

Do I have to finish the main story missions to complete all of the side content?

I kind want to hold off the main story for a bit while I'm currently working through past Xeno games.

Also is it possible to access the online missions completely solo? For instance if you Wii U was online could you still do 100% of the content in the game.

Thanks for any help.

They're pretty underwhelming, in my opinion. Their man effect is modifying how many division points you get for accomplishing specific things. While a Pathfinder might get a couple hundred points from planting a probe and just a few for killing stuff, Interceptors would get far more points for killing than exploring(to some extent).

The division points themselves go towards your BLADE Level. Each time you reach the required amount for the next level, you can go talk to Eleonora at the BLADE Concourse to raise the level of one of your affinity actions(bio/mech/searchorwhateveritisinEnglish). Those determine whether or not you can open a treasure box out in the world, as you won't be able to access one if your action level isn't the same or higher. The Mechanical skill is also required for planting probes. The max BLADE Level is 10, and the highest you can get each of those three actions to is 4
just from speaking to Eleonora. You can get them to 5 if you're good at riddles but that's not really related to the BLADE level, technically.
You also get some more options in the barracks thing with each level, like new emblems to put up or expanded room color options or more holofigure stands.

There's the salary/earnings thing too, that makes use of the online. The total division points amassed by each member of the divisions are collected and displayed at the console in the barracks. And at the end of each day, you're able to collect a reward at the console based on how well the division you're currently in did. Whichever division had the highest number of points gathered in a day gets to pick any of the eight rewards, which are mainly consumable battle items, some sellable thing, and skell insurance voucher tickets you can use in case you run out. The better rewards are only available to the higher ranking divisions for that day.

There's also some boosted thing that happens if your division...fills up the bar twice? Or something? I'm not really sure when it happens or what it does, but it's probably not very exciting...maybe it just gives you bonus points for the duration of the boost.

I'd say most are in the story missions, a few show up in normals, and then there are some minor ones in some of the flavor text. Yes, certain quests are only available after finishing the final story chapter, including parts of the segment map, so you wouldn't be able to 100% it without finishing the story. And yes, you can still do the online content without playing with other players, but you have to be connected to the servers.

Can we max out all of the Divisions in the end?

I would think so, but some of them sound like you wouldn't be able to get points after acertain time:

Pathfinders: They are pioneers and trailblazers in charge of establishing Data Probes to expand the FrontierNav. They experience greater HP recovery over time (HP Support). Division Points are boosted through planting Data Probes and discovering locations.

Reclaimers: They search for and recover of the White Whale scattered about Mira, and recover lost items from the battlefield. They are more likely to receive items from enemy drops (Drop Sensor). Division Points are boosted through retrieving White Whale wreckage and planting data probes.

Like if you plant all the Probes and discover all Locations...how can you boost the points?

EDIT: Just read the above Post, it makes sense now...

...but still, how can Pathfinders and Reclaimers win the day when they have planted all probes and discovers all locations? They won't get boosted points haha.

Can't afford to not pick it up now at that price. If Amazon turns out to be right and the SE won't get here till the 8th then its going to take some immense willpower to not spoil myself those four days before.

Keep in mind that while the guide releases on the 4th, it isn't being offered for release day arrival or anything, so it's not likely to come until the next week.

When is the "embargo" over? I suppose it should be Tuesday the latest. When Nintendo knows one of its game is going to get high score, they let it to be over even two weeks before. That's what they did with Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2 and Super Mario 3D World, as far as I know.

It's November 30.

Oh, by missions, do you mean the main story quests? Or are there just "Normal Quests" that are added depending on which division you choose?

I read threw ya'll conversation and wanted to ask where I can go to read about not only the Factions but job classes?

I just want to read about that and nothing else. I'm elergic to spoilers.

I've decided that this is going to be my 'Christmas Day' game this year. Pretty exciting. I can still remember all of the others, from Super Mario Bros 3 and Sonic 3 as a kid to recent ones like Lumines, Twilight Princess, Elite Beat Agents, Smash Bros Brawl, MGS4, Mario 3D Land, Persona 4 Golden, Link Between Worlds, Smash Wii U.

It's always a special time.

Another reason the whole thing is a bit silly. Interceptors were king for a while in the early days of the Japanese release, because all people had to do was fight stuff and their points would skyrocket. I'm not familiar with the exact numbers for each action across all the divisions, but Pathfinders could probably pull ahead if there were significantly more of them and they spammed whatever repeatable thing that was still available to them that gave them the most points.

I miss the days of opening your most anticipated game then spending the rest of the day playing it. Now Christmas is a day full of obligations and far too busy for games.

Well, uh...here's a review from moviepilot if anyone's interested: http://moviepilot.com/reviews/3652527?lt_source=external,manual,manual

Well that's why I'm not adding it the op. Just something to hold you guys over.

Wait... this is what the lifepods look like?

How could I NOT play this game...

Still one week, and I'm already overhyped!!
This. I brought a Wii U for this game! (Not that there wasn't anything else that interested me of course)

Now to just stay as unspoiled as possible while still seeing a much as I can. I'm making sure to only see things from the first continent.

I honestly just want to get the game just to take lot's of screenshots and walk around to admire the scenery... Not interested in the slightliest on finishing the game but I guess I would have to if I want to unlock those giant ass skells to have even better views of the scenery, hah.

Well the reviews I've seen so far all are 9+/10

Gamekult gave it an 8: http://translate.google.com/transla...test-xenoblade-chronicles-x-J3050108394t.html

Surprising with the "multiplayer is worthless/multi-zero mode (lol)" part considering the variety of things you can do, but we'll see.

Still called it an "unforgettable game" though.

From that review:

'The Least
- Some raps
- The guy who sings at one point "I need a bigger gun." That guy.'

Really?

I mean you don't gotta say, "I need a bigger gun." It's assumed.

For some reason I thought this was coming out the second week of December. I still have to finish Fallout 4 (and my last two papers for the term!!!)

Nintendo is the only company that does reviews right. They usually give review copies out a month early and the embargo is up days before.

I believe cdpr had the embargo lift for witcher 3 at least 2 weeks prior to launch.

I liked the movie guys review. He's a regular dude who has played a variety of jrpgs spanning multiple console generations. Not every review needs to be a digital foundry dissection.
