They ruled out Gohan, Krillin wouldnt want 18 to battle, Trunks and Goten will be prevented from participation from their mothers, Tien and Krillin just are not strong enough unless only a few participants will be Piccolo or greater power.

Yup, but Buu is definitely over Piccolo. Goku thinks of Buu before Piccolo when picking out fighters.

Problem is that the gap between Buu and Piccolo is pretty big, the gap between Buu and Gohan is pretty big, and the gap between Gohan and Goku/Vegeta is huge. Like if you separate the top 5 into tiers, everyone besides Goku and Vegeta are in their own tier.

To an extent, since later versions of SSJ1 were stronger than Piccolo by far. It's not really clear if he's stronger than the current goten or trunks. Though obviously working together they're many, many times stronger

Piccolo could easily get a powerup some how. But more importantly, The enemy is probably not going to have an easy time finding 5 buu or higher level guys either.

Goten and Trunks don't seem to be training in earnest, the only times they did actively train is because someone else made them.(Chi-Chi, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo)

Piccolo has always kept up with his training and I don't see why he would have stopped now.(when he's not babysitting and being blackmailed by Chi Chi)

Looking at how drastically Gohan has weakened I'm fully confident in Piccolo whopping those two kids' asses.

Speaking of them in their "primes", it's impossible to say how strong they got after the time chamber training, but before that they were well below 18, in the manga they never landed a hit on her.

Remember, that the fusion-dance method is not as powerful as the Kai method. Individual power is more important.

Even when Gotenks became a SSJ3, his presence was riddled with humor and I couldn't remember any point where the anime clearly displayed Gotenks power. Unfortunately since Goten and Trunks are rarely taken seriously it makes it difficult to get a grasp on how powerful they are.

When Gotenks is being Gotenks, I have no idea if he's just messing around and being a kid, or if he is actually using all of his power.

And I'm saying Buu himself confirms they are not. His transformations were based off who is the strongest in his body at the time. After they unfused inside him, he turned into piccolo, not trunks or goten. So they aren't stronger than him.
