Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

He is free to prefer w/e he pleases. Its not like anyone in this thread gives a shit about his opinion so much they are going to be swayed. Its just annoying that he picks and chooses parts of Dark's postsas if its definitive proof while ignoring the huge pluses and explanations. Its boring and dishonest.

He is always like that, I just don't bother. He has his opinions, which is fine but he will never hear one that goes against his, ever. You have more chance trying to talk to a concrete wall.

The wait is killing me.

darkx10 already pointed out, the lack of shadows in the world, materials do not react to lighting properly this is fact, character models look like shit, anybody with eyes an see that, AA is low quality FXAA, pop in is massive, and most of the grass in the game is 2d, you're kidding yourself if you think monolith is gonna get everything out of the wiiu, in there first game on HD hardware, with probably a low budget for a open world game.
-_-
Why is this guy not banned yet? He's Evilore's mentally challenged cousin or something?

It's funny how many ways there are to play the first Xenoblade, I barely used Sharla, defeated the final boss super quick. My big hurdle was
Lorinthia

Seven was a powerhouse for me.
One of the things I like about Xenoblade (original) is how it encourages you to rotate your party to build affinity. And the characters play differently enough that whenever I started getting bored with the battles, I could switch to someone else to change things up.

Funny, I've watched plenty of videos of XCX, but the GB quicklook was the first to make me really think "Holy shit, there's a lot of shit to keep track of here".

Monsters just disappear from that position when it's nighttime? That's really off-putting.

The first game was also like that since some monster only appear during certain time of day or weather conditions.

Happened a few time in the first game I'm running toward a monster, the time go over what the game consider night time, see my target disappear. (They stay if they are engaged though thank god.)

Yeah, but with the impressions putting emphasis on the creatures in this game, I expected a step up from that.

I dont really get how you didnt mention that it runs better than the majority of open world games last gen. They made compromises to present the best experience possible. If a game has a shit ton of effects and runs like shit its not technically impressive, its incompetence. You end up with garbage like Assassins creed unity which is barely playable.
Assassin's Creed IV was what he picked up as what he considered the best looking WiiU game to date (in a time when Mario Kart 8 was already available).
I remember because I thought it was a weird choice (of course different genres and all).

do female characters get that 'mask' thing as a face option too?

I need to see all of the Wonderful 101 main cast remade in Xenoblade.

I believe realism is what matters most to ninjablade, so I can understand why he'd choose that as an example of a game truly pushing Wii U. It has dynamic shadows and lighting, and that seems to be his barometer for a technically impressive game.

However, if we're going the realism route, I'd say Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist is the most realistic looking game on the Wii U. Of course, you don't need pure realism in order to find something technically impressive, but that would require some actual critical thinking skills...

Well, if the halo 5 thread is anything to go by then people could care less about locked framerate and smooth experiences if "compromises" we're made to get there such as what he listed in his post.

Damn the game is already on the shelves here in France, but mine's still not shipped. I'm really tempted to just cancel my preorder but I would lose around 10€ in the process...

I was torn, too. XCX is such a massive game that you are bound to miss a lot without a guide, but! Using a guide to find it isn't as fun.

Then, I remembered how much I liked my OoT guide back in the day and went with the CE.

I've finally buy it. I'll use it carefully.

I'm probably going to cancel the special edition because I'm not paying near $100 extra for that. I'll just import the Secret File Art book and I already own the soundtrack CD.

For the main character, is it known if your gender matters? Are their cutscene changes or romance options?

I don't think there's any romance option for your character. I doubt there's any major cutscene change as well.
Edit: In fact a bit of google-fu and no, no romance apparently. Too bad, when done well I like romance in RPG.

Thanks! That's a bit disappointing since I enjoyed the little romanctic plot points of the first Xenoblade. Ah well, at least now I can build an eye-candy character

Europe. Paradise of having anticipated games way early.

Gamexplain posted a video of flying over all 5 continents. I kind of just skipped through but you get to see various weather conditions in the game. I think the aurora borealis is my favourite.

The fact that you can take off from inside the city without a loading screen is a really cool facet of their engine. Playing stuff like Fallout you would expect the giant walls of the city would serve as a sectioned off loading point, like Diamond City, but nope. It probably does use it as a node to decide what content to stream in, but still incredibly seamless. Well done, Monolith Soft.

All of this videos... man. Why we didn't have all of this stuff when the japanese version launched? It's like gaming media there didn' bothered on showing all the true beauty of this game and they just when straight ahead and score it with a 7...

Got glimpse of far flung areas, habitat of special monsters and that remind me the wonder of xenoblade.
Soundtracks with vocals are tiresome and sticking one for mech flying is a faux pas as far as I'm concerned.
