Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

BTW, I forgot to mention this earlier when we were talking about pop-in, but I think another factor that might make pop-in less distracting in this game is the fact that it actually FADES in, instead of just suddenly appearing out of nowhere. It isn't sudden, it's transitional, which makes it seem more intentional, and you just accept it as part of the way the world is. This applies to both the LOD system and objects in general.

There are a few exceptions, but fade-in is how the streaming works in general.

I was thinking you could not get any eye candy / fan service since the breast slider is gone ?

The thing with the slider being gone is that I don't like the new default size. I feel its a bit too big for the character I wanted to make. Wanted a size smaller. Oh well.

I'm still not completely sold on the lyrics to some of these songs but otherwise I'm diggin what I've heard so far.

What you don't like "Look over there it's a goooold mine!" or "We've got to get high enough to try" ;)

I love how the cheesiness of the lyrics really comes out when the singer is a native speaker and you can easily understand most of it. I know cheese isn't for everyone though.

Monsters just disappear from that position when it's nighttime? That's really off-putting.

If they at least start walking off and gradually fade out... what more can you ask for?

Edit: Ok, I suppose them walking to a nest and going to sleep would be pretty sweet...

I wish they would have used a native speaker for the German songs...

They fade out right in front of you, watching the Giantbomb video.

And yeah, that's something that would make a big difference for me. Especially with the vistas and fauna being a major selling point in this game.

This guy is super passive aggressive.

"And if map view is too much for you, just stay on Earth and die you stupid piece of shit"

There was a part where they're like "if you have the attention span of a child, don't be surprised if you die without a penny to your name." Either whoever's writing this thinks they might as well call out the learning curve or it's a matter of having no chill. Probably both...?

the pop in issue even with the data packs is troubling... why did I even download the data packs?

and now I am unsure on the game as well because of posts about pop in and ninjablades

welp

Phew! Saved myself some cash! I could not find the power supply for my Wii U or the Pad. Nearly resigned myself to buying new ones and I found them in a hidden shoe-box! Yay! Ready for Xenoblade!

What ? Why ?
And the point of the data packs is to reduce these instance. Since it's so massive it probably cannot be avoided. Dark10x also said despite the technical ''issue'' it comes out nicely and it's consession they made to keep the experience enjoyable. I'll take some pop-in if it keeps the framerate steady instead of the insane drop we got in the first game.

Is a plain jane external hard drive really faster than the Wii U's internal storage? Maybe I really will dig out the old 250gb one I have somewhere.

I'm curious about the answer to this question, so I'm bumping it. I currently have my data packs on my internal storage, but I'd happily move them to my external hard drive. I just want to put them wherever will provide the best performance.

Joke or serious?
Doubting this game because of tech reasons is one of the weirdest things even for GAF
It is impressive not only for the wiiu imho

Yeah, someone tell me the answer on this so I can do whatever works best.

So, is anybody here planning to 100% the game? I am.

If I end up in the 90% range just by having fun sure otherwise I'll just enjoy myself.

I do want to try to take down a few of the high level monsters in a party of mechs. That might take me to some of the higher %s.

Daaaaamn that QuickLook makes the game look like it really scratches an itch I have. I know people have been a bit down on it for being too MMOey, but has anyone actively said they dislike the game? Between the environment design, that Xenoblade combat, and the traversal lackluster quest design would be acceptable if I'm having fun just engaging with the world

I'm interested in trying the high level battles, but if they are lengthy battles of attrition only won through hours and hours of grinding beforehand, I might pass. Like, I love FFXII, but never did the Yiazmat fight because fuck that.

Dislike? Not really besides Jason from Kotaku (who didn't like the first one either). The worst things I've personally heard from it are it not being as good as the first Xenoblade.

I'll probably do the same thing I did in the first game: casual playthrough first, then 100% playthrough later.

I just hope the fetch quests aren't as bad as they were in the first game. I almost quit on Xenoblade.

Almost 3 years back (for consideration of tech), a niconico user recorded a comparison for MH3G (found through reddit). Top left: disk, top right: internal storage, bottom left: external HDD (500GB), bottom right: SSD (80GB) (products at the bottom of the video's page and end of the video, although that doesn't have much bearing these days).

Seems like at the time, fastest to slowest was: SSD, internal storage and external HDD are within a second of each other but internal gets the lead sometimes in these cases, disk.

I don't know the first thing about external HDDs and SSDs so I'm not the person to talk to, I can only observe. And it may be different these days as external HDDs would be better than they use to be.

I want to find something more recent, if I can't I'm leaving this as is or I'll poke around other threads.

Finally, I will 100% this game 3 times dammit.

Siliconera not too happy with how long X takes to get going: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/11/27/xenoblade-chronicles-x-my-first-steps-onto-mira/

The game gets better. Way better. Once you have some levels, a party, some gear, and access to the full repertoire of game systems Xenoblade Chronicle X is pretty rad. I’m looking forward to writing all about it. But we live in an era where entire single player campaigns can last five hours, and this game takes almost that long just to get going. We aren’t at Final Fantasy XIII levels of delaying gratification, but this is still a bumpy start.

I don't care personally. Zelda gets a lot of criticism for stuff like this too but I like a nice slow intro to my epic adventure games. And the intro will end up being like 2% of my total playtime. Same goes for Monster Hunter.

sorry guys but ninjablade has spoken, saving my money for DT

Don't watch this video if you don't want environment spoilers obviously, he flies by some locations that can only be accessed by flying.

dont watch any gamexplain video starting today, all they do is spoil shit :/

Does anyone have a link to a proper Player Customization video that goes over every available option?

I've seen 3 up to this point but they dont let me se every option per face. What I'm mostly concerned with is the hair options for your player character. Since they appear to be tied to a face. I dont particularly like the older Blackish guy's face but that appears to be the only one to allow me curly hair.

I would hope this isn't the case. From what I've seen every face type has several hair types so I want to know if I pick a different face, what hair options are available to me. Seems kind of odd that you cant mix and match hair for any face.

It's more so that the genre/brand of music in this game, instrumentals like Primodia not withstanding, isn't exactly my cup of tea. Black Tar and The Key We Lost have managed to grow on me over time though so it's not like I'm gonna be playing on mute the whole time.
