Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

As someone who has played the game, I understand what he's talking about it. The UI is not elegantly designed to display crucial information in a small space. So you can either turn it off and get less crucial information, or have it on and have it take up the screen.

It's not really that big of a deal since 90% of it is only on during battle, but yeah, it's a thing. His complaint makes complete sense.

People are shitting on the polygon for silly reasons. I thought it was pretty well done with solid reasoning that will apply to many people here. It just depends on how much certain things bug you.

Well, the game has quite complex systems, it is natural to have a more complex UI. The fact that the information is actually useful means that all the screen is dedicated to you, not just that red rectangle. That's my only complain, that the red rectangle thing is a cheap shot. You want to see the vistas, disable HUD. You want to play the game, enable HUD.

That sounds like the stupidest thing to do.

When everyone else is saying one thing and one or two people are offering differing opinions, always, always listen to them.

This isn't stats, reviews aren't empirical, you can't throw out the outlier when it comes to opinions or you will create an echo chamber and be surrounded by "yes" people.

Never throw out the contrarian opinion, you don't have to agree with it or like it but you should read it or listen to it so that you can have a true full picture.

But whatever dude do what you want it's just vidja games...

I agree, I pretty much always go and read the reviews of the people who don't like a game. It doesn't make any sense to only read positive reviews of any product. I want to know what isn't like as well.

Of course, I pre ordered and won't bother reading any reviews because I was buying it anyway. In this case I'll form my own opinion and not bother having it swayed by others.

While I'm a fan of Xenoblade, I never found the story to be all that great, especially in the second half, but I'll agree in that it was the main draw for me over exploration and sidequests.

If you're in the same boat, I suggest you do a lot more research about this game before buying. It does have a lot of strengths over its predecessor, but it also has entirely different focuses. It's a really different beast.

Trust me I have. I'm mainly getting the game due to the mechs but I'm being fairly cautious in how the narrative might play out and the quality therein.

I understand the exploration is the highlight but I hope for Xenoblade X2 that Takahashi revamps/drastically improves the story.

From the reviews, it seems like people that really liked Xenoblade Chronicles will like X too, and people who didn't like it may or may not enjoy it, depending on how much the exploration aspect hooks them. I fall into the first camp (Xenoblade is in my top 3 games of all time), so these reviews have been making me practically salivate with anticipation.

And I just bought Xenoblade on Wii VC, pretty much the 1rst time I'm doing that but for 10 bucks and my copy is literally on the other side of the Earth :/
Managed to pull through the ending just last night!
Now onto Newgame+ till the sequel comes to my door!
As for the complaints about the game not being self explanatory, I'm a SaGa player there's nothing Monolith can throw at me that will phase me.

Yep, glad there's a few open people like ourselves out there. Too often sifes like neogaf become echo chambers especially in dedicated fanbases. Just garbage to ignore others opinions and trust me I know how that is when people openly admit to putting me on their ignore list because my opinions are different than theirs ha-ha.
Auto congrat' ? Ah ah.
"Glad we're the best"...

Say goodbye to any other video games for a while.

I heard they're insanely long and unfortunately for me I like to complete side quests as well! I recall spending 130 hours on the Witcher: Enhanced Edition. As much as I enjoy lengthy RPGs, I do wish they didn't take so long to fully complete (with extras).

Glad this is reviewing well. Wii U owners finally getting a high quality exclusive third party title.

monolithsoft is a 1st party studio

This is an internal first party game .......

It's first party...

Welp I'm an idiot.

It's first party

Very, at least on some communities (like 1UP). "It's essentially a 2D Kingdom Hearts, but mediocre", I believe was the consensus.

I'm absolutely shocked to hear this. Definitely gonna be a lot more skeptical towards import reviews specifically from now on, outside of my usual skepticism about any review that is.

Loving Jim's review btw, very entertaining read. Gonna read a couple more even though this game was gonna get bought regardless of the scores it got. The hype is too real.

After reading a ton of reviews, it seems critics are split on the ways in which the game is structured. Some like that fact that getting through the main story is a huge grind, making progression feel rewarding, while others hated it, wanting a more streamlined approach. I think if there's lots of payoff to the grinding (like in most RPG's), then it makes for a good game. At the same time, maybe the criticism of it 'padding out the game' could apply for certain players. Still, good scores all around.

Maybe some reviewers wanted to go through the main the story as fast as possible to deliver their reviews si they may have felt it was a grind while other enjoyed more the freedom they had outside of the story.
It happened with Fantasy Life 3DS and that was sad. thankfull youbers came by and supported it more than pro reviewers

Really happy this seems to have done well with western reviewers. This is such a unique and ambitious JRPG, I would love to see more of those in the future.

Not sure why they should be exempt from someone calling their UI what it is: A mess. Sure, it's a useful mess, but they could have condensed some of that stuff into a better design while leaving all that info up there. It's not elegant.

While it's not a game breaker by any means, yeah, it's a legitimate call out.

This seems pretty likely given the quotas a lot of these guys need to fill

I love Xenoblade Chronicles but that was due to the story and characters. I think it's what people liked in the first game that will have an impact on what they take from this one.

I recall the Japanese release getting about a whole point lower on average. Seems like a solid title in the West, just sucks this won't see the requisite sales. I'm thankful that if Bayonetta is anything to go by that Nintendo is more into the prestige business, and I hope the critical response encourages them to continue with the series regardless.

Their as long as Hazard's scoreless streak
Friendly banter :P

Anyways I got around 50hrs on main story for the first game and I was little over half way done...i should finish it one day

I didn't even take that into consideration, makes sense.

If nothing else, Bayonetta 2 and XCX are *the* reason I bought the Wii U at all. I've purchased other games for it, of course, but I wouldn't have the system in the first place without those kinds of games showing up on a Nintendo console.

Nice nice nice. Very happy it's being well received.

I hope that the Xenoblade (or Xeno?) series becomes a mainstay at Nintendo and they continue to launch new installments of the series on the consoles and I look forward to Xenoblade Chronicles Tri in 2020

I am looking forward to seeing how the MP side of this pans out. I am way more interested in being able to wander around the world, doing stuff and have my friends there.

Ok, long awaited games then.

Like a GTA, etc...

This game may be niche but it's one that many looked forward to for ages.

Unless the review is scathing I dont get how thats a bad review. Its more the issue of people hyping shit they dont know anything about and companies showimg games way too early.

Well hey! Great review news! I figured this game was firmly going to be in the "either you love it or hate it" camp.

Can't wait to get enough free time to dig into this thing. May can't come soon enough. (Stupid real life, just let me play videogames now!)
