Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

That seems like an old issue that was fixed in the various system updates, right?
IIRC it affected pretty much all games, I think if that wasn't fixed already it would have been a huger deal, no?
anyway you should be able to move the saves to the internal memory in the Config App to avoid this issue.

I personally didn't followed Nintendo updates, so I don't know if it was fixed or not.

Guys I might as well ask here, and sorry because it's a pretty basic question, but is there any chance of getting the Xenoblade WiiU bundle in NA? I take it the answer is "no" since I can't seem to find a clear answer on google. They only mention the special edition boxset that seems to be already sold out. I have to get a WiiU timed with this game. I'm taking the plunge.

To be fair to Phil, he gave the previous game a 9.5 before he left Game Informer. Also going by his Twitter he's been enjoying the game. He's also really addicted to Hearthstone.

And that quote sounds like a 7 rather than a 2, so I don't really see an issue.
When he says there a mountain of annoyances that implies something less than a 7, it sounds like something more of a exaggeration if anything

You can freely move Saves or Updates between internal and External DD.
So even if that was the case you can just keep the saves in Internal memory, that shoudln't be a problem since they're usually smaller and if the DD crap out you still have your saves.
I know that more demanding HDD can't work on WiiU if you don't have a double USB cable or something, I know because I had to buy one.

Ah c'mon you can't be cherrypicking words out of a 1 sentence quote. It says Monolith "made something special" just a couple words before.

Kotaku
If you’re the kind of player that’s happy to spend hours at a time not really getting anywhere, but just luxuriating in a vast and vivid world, then there is a lot of game for you here. Others might find the lack of narrative drive and abundance of fetch quests an impediment to enjoyment. As a general rule of thumb, if you tend to bounce off MMOs, I think you might struggle with XCX. If they’re very much your cup of tea, then you should probably start getting excited.

Yeah, this doesn't seem my cup of tea. Will try it when it hits the bargain bin. Maybe.

To my eyes, it is too cluttered. I don't like it at all.

You can turn the fuel gauge off as well:

There's no Xenoblade X console bundle in NA.

That's reassuring to know, than you for the input :)

And yes, look at this picture, everything was turned off from the HUD.

Persona 4 Golden: 10
Pokemon X/Y: 9.5
Persona Q: 9
Devil Survivor 2: 8.5
Ys Celceta: 8.5

Okay, so the publication doesn't have a vendetta against JRPGs. I'm still a little annoyed at the Child of Light review that slammed the game for having easy & simplistic combat while refusing to play the game on the higher difficulty. "I only play games on Normal because that's the developer's true vision for the game." No, the developer's true vision of the game is that you can select a difficulty that suits what you want to get out of the game, OTHERWISE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE INCLUDED MULTIPLE DIFFICULTIES FOR YOU TO CHOOSE FROM!

Phill Kollar even really liked the first Xenoblade. He gave it a 9.5 Gold Rating at Game Informer.

You're going to be waiting a long time lol.

Also, one of Kotaku's complaints is that the combat starts to get old after 70+ hours and that's just kinda funny IMO.

I didn't enjoy (Wii) Xenoblade's MMO combat either, so that wasn't something I was looking forward to anyway. I was mainly looking for a strong narrative along with an interesting world to explore. Without the narrative hook, the exploration will feel shallow.

Nintendo game and bargain bin... really funny words there. You should know that most nintendo games are still priced the way they were when they were released and havent budged.

NX releases next year. Stuff will hit the bins eventually.

Any game's combat would get pretty same-y if it went over even 30 hours. Heck, 10.

I dunno, I could play some platinum games forever. The more actiony it is, the more I can get out of it. Menu based, though? Yeah, it gets old.

Arthur Gies. He's the only exception I make for "you shouldn't criticize individual reviewers for their opinions."

I agree, any game is like that.
It's a good thing that he got bored of it only after spending 70+ hours, lol

These data packs are thick
15gigs
. Am i supposed to downloed them all?
In fact, they're only 10 GB.
If you're going digital, you don't need them.
They exist to improuve loeading time for physical owners.

If you had watched GameXplain, you wouldn't have said that :

The GameXplain video review was great, and long ~20 minutes. They praised the story and gave concrete details, not spoilers, why its good. Apparently it has some pretty major themes and you get to expeirence as much or as little of it as you choose to engage in it.

These reviewers slamming the story - remember they had to cram it down their throats for review in a short time span...

The game isn't shallow unless you don't give a dman about side quests that enchance the story/lore/characters background.

I got an external HDD in anticipation of this game a few weeks ago, it didn't work at all out of the box.
Like the HDD wasn't recognised by the WiiU and it made a weird sound, I hooked it up a computer and it showed it working fine.
I had to buy a double cord or something from Amazon, then it worked without a hitch.
I went and moved stuffs manually to make some space and you can actually choose which stuffs to move or not (I think I moved Wii Party U but not the related saves, moved every single eshop games but their saves, haven't had an issue yet).
Cyber Monday means I also bought Xenoblade Wii too and I'm not looking forward to downloading the data packs AT ALL, that's for sure!

Feel free to read the description which answers your question. :)

They're not mandatory but highly recommended. They're also just 10 gigs. You just need 15 to download them (unzip nonsense)

Sounds like the game is great based of the reviews it is exactly what I wanted out of it but I will be sad to see the vision system go away.

Yeah this is not likely for you if you did not like the previous Xenoblade. Knowing when games are not for you is a great way to save money.

If you should've maybe watched GameExplain review because :

Getting disc version.
I got the space for it tho...after deleting everything.

Downloading them then. If it's really 10 then i can download older stuff again. Sweet. Load times that bad huh without them on disc?

The game has no loads unless you fast travel or enter the Blade building. It's more for streaming in art assets to reduce object and detail pop-in and make the store interface faster when cycling through customization options.

Thanks for the info. Glad it smooths things over.
Can't wait to play. Reviews pretty good.

I can understand not liking their character models but the character designs itself are mostly fantastic. Elma especially.

As usual with Takahashi games it seems, something went wrong from the transition from 2D to 3D.

I wonder if they would look better if the game was cel-shaded.

Have you played Xenoblade? Screens of that game did not do the battle interface well. When you're playing with motion and other things going on it doesn't look as obnoxious or invasive as in screens. You can also turn lots of it off.

Meh, not sure I'm going to like it. I got burned out on the side quests in the first Xenoblade, and this seems even more inundated with them.

I'm pretty sure the number of quests is actually similar. They just fleshed them out some more at the cost of the main plot.
