Just read the new manga

so:

do we know who the 5th fighter is?

And tbh, I don't really care about universe 7's saiyans at the moment. I know it's a "bomb drop" but eh it's not interesting. 12 year old me sure. Now they need to give it a reason to be compelling. Which should be fairly easy. As long as they don't take the lazy route and resort to personality swap. That'd be boring

you mean super saiyan raditz, ssj2 nappa and super saiyan god broli don't excite you?

Not really.

Was Frieza in the Gogeta movie interesting? (Gohan punching him was funny at least)
Was Nappa in GT interesting?
Or Cell and Frieza in GT interesting?
Or Cell and Frieza getting worked by Pikkon?
I'd say no to all of those.

Or whenever characters "come back" in any form period.

It sounds great on paper.
Then the show/movie happens and it's just "hey you", "whoa it's him!?", "ok, time to fight".
-_-

An interesting scenario and decent writing would make a call back good, not the namedrop. Or adding crazy hairs.

You folks are putting too much thought into the power level stuff, at least in regards to Tagoma. Sorbet said he was stronger than the old Ginyu force but Sorbet also doesn't know how powerful Cell or Buu was. He knew how powerful Ginyu was though so that would be his metric. I doubt Sorbet even realizes how powerful Freiza was prior to him getting killed, lol.

As for power levels using Z as a base. I assume Piccolo hasn't dropped off (or maybe he even gained a bit of power) but Gohan probably has. That would mean that Tagoma is probably within the same range as Perfect Cell. That makes the most sense to me anyway. That'd make him a danger to everyone but Buu and Gotenks since Gohan is weak now.

Wouldn't the correct metric (from Sorbet's perspective) be that Tagoma was stronger than Freeza before he started training?

To be completely honest you guys are putting too much thought into everything. The dragon ball series doesn't adhere to normal logic or even it's own logic. Anything can happen whenever Akira Toriyama wants it to. He doesn't give a fuck.

This. Didn't he typically come up with the story each week rather than lay out a basic road map?
The only thing I wish the series would have more of is some drama and character development, but it insists on being light and vapid. I wish Goku was fighting for something more than the jollies or maybe his friends and family.
Some of the best moments in the series were also, arguably, thick in the drama as well. Gohan ready to stop Cell, Goku getting Vegeta to realise how serious of a problem Buu is, Goku admitting to Beerus he just can't win.

So now that things have deviated enough from the movie I want some things to happen.

Either Trunks will come to the battlefield as Gotenks from the start or the defusion will happen, meaning Frieza will see the little version of his last killer aka Future Trunks. Now we can get some very good reactions from that.

Goku and Vegeta look to unlock their Super Modes in that dimension but will probably need healing before fighting Frieza and haven't trained with their new forms so I wonder how the show will handle that or will they pass it off.

I'm hopeing for a couple more episodes before Goku and Vegeta come back considering Bulma hasn't contacted Whis still. In those Episodes, Frieza should enter the battlefield and start cycling though his forms.

Form 1 should fight SS Gohan, Form 2 vs Gotenks, Form 3 vs SSJ2 Gohan which forces Frieza to go Form 4.

When the hell Piccolo use it?

He hasn't. It's not Piccolo's technique. If I remember correctly though he can use it in one of the games.

Piccolo trained him. One of the parts of the training was undoubtedly Ki-blasts. Piccolo guided him, Gohan created Masenko.

I read the new chapter too holy shit
Toriyama must really dislike Gohan, goddamn

Remember how the dub made it Masenko-ha? I wonder if that was intentional to make it more in line with Kamehameha or just the VA going "HA!" like a martial arts cry.

inb4 they pronounced it kamayamaya anyway

It's probably too early, but I haven't heard much speculation about
who will win the tournament or their matches. I expect it to at least be close, so that means U6 will lose 2 out of 5. Since I think U6 loses, that means they drop at least 3 out of 5 match ups. Hopefully vegeta takes care of business, but I expect him to be one of them that gets worked over by his U7 opponent. I still don't think buu will even qualify and we will get gohan replacement. A shutout by U6 would be awesome, but I think losing is what will set off the next big arc in the series.

Who are the first four anyways?

Who are the first four anyways?

Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Buu, and an unnamed fighter selected by beerus. Supposedly, they are the strongest opponent beerus has ever fought (stronger than goku), but is explicitly stated not to be Whis.

I think Universe 6 will actually win. Otherwise, what would be the point of the Dragonball search subplot?

I'm going to guess at least Vegeta and Piccolo win their matches, Buu loses his.

Lost his gi,wasn't 100% sure he could still go super, hasn't trained...i wouldn't be surprised if he forgot...never forget future gohan!! Live on in our hearts

Gohan after his 'mystic' power up in the fusion saga was so cool. Together with him wearing Goku's gi it truly felt like he was accepting his future as protector of the earth.

Then he got fucking soft as shit again as he always does in times of peace.

If it's someone like time traveling Bardock I'll kill myself

Yeah, that was a great moment. I'm forever salty that Toriyama had to drag the fight against Buu out so long that I can never bring myself to rewatch any of that.

It's just not good. The Buu saga was a mistake!

If it's someone like time traveling Bardock I'll kill myself

If it has to be anyone like that I really hope for Future Trunks.

gohan played with buu instead of killing him causing buu to get the upper hand and destroying the planet consequently

he played with cell instead of killing him causing goku to sacrifice himself and trunks getting killed after cell's comeback.

he is a dumb shithead who should be a family man.

I'm liking the changes for Super. The fight with the jobbers in the movie was extended and arguably the best part of the movie (Goku and Vegeta just proceeded to kick Frieza's sorry ass lol), but the events in the series are more interesting. Besides, the preview sort of implies that Ginyu and Gotenks will have a role to play, and that is fucking awesome. Gotenks was the second best thing of the Buu saga (the first was of course Majin Vegeta, we miss you buddy) and deserves more love.

Also from the manga

Piccolo seemingly has no business in the tournament because he should be weak as fuck (he was at SSJ level during the Cell saga and that's it), so I wouldn't be surprised if he stepped aside and went as an advisor for the team instead, as that seems to be his strong point. That would leave room for Gotenks or even Gohan to join in.
