Ancient Aliens: New Nin. 3DS now offers the best SNES emulation on any handheld

it's based and an older snes9x version, sound is not as good, but it might help reach playable speeds on 3DS on regular games and reach playable speeds on some special chips games on new 3DS like Star Fox or Yoshi's Island (it's not full speed on CATSFC in Super FX heavy parts)

also, save state loading in CATSFC Plus seems to be be working again.

When I used a GCW-Zero, PocketSNES was based on 1.43 which I'm pretty sure CatSFC is as well. Granted it was well optimized to the Zero, but the foundation should still be there. I'll experiment with it tonight. It might end up providing better performance for more or less the same accuracy.

I updated my console after installing thememenuhax. Now it doesn't work. Is there something I need to change to make it work again?

Homemenuhax/Themehax is dead on the latest update. Only options that I'm aware of for the latest firmware are through Cubic Ninja, OoT and IronFall.

oot hax is a pain since you need tu be able to update the save (the homebrew payload) manually, so you need a save dongle or another 3DS capable of flashing the said save.

you should get cubic ninja, it auto updates it's payload via wifi.

Can't believe he asked to get psa added to his title.

How is vital for.this stuff. Is the new 3ds better for it
Native Vita homebrew is difficult to get going and limited by the firmware/apps you need even more than 3DS. Basically if you haven't already downloaded what you need on the firmware you need, you're out of luck.

New 3DS has a comparable CPU and enough RAM to make it competitive with Vita for emulation anyway. And it's Retroarch build is more mature with more working cores too. I'd say spring for a n3DS with Cubic Ninja and grab a microSD card of your choice.

Thread is getting a bit long to search specifically, but is there a reason why SNES resolution isn't as good as Genesis on RetroArch?

1:1 looks great and all but it leaves much to be desired. Has anything come out to fix this? New emulators?

Not sure what you mean? What more could you want over 1:1 pixel perfection?

Genesis = 320 x 224
SNES = 256 x 224

I guess the Genesis might look a bit wider?

But, make sure you're on the latest retroarch nightly. Which happens to support filters.

I'm on a nightly build from around mid October. It's running fine. Has there been any significant improvements since then? I'm conscious about upgrading to the latest in case there are new issues. E.g. Will I still be able to hit the home button and put it to sleep. I've not upgraded to had 2.5 yet.

If it's running fine, I'd say why bother.

You'll need to update to 2.5 to run the latest nightlies, but they have sleep functionality without having to hit home.

Latest nightlies offer more emulators, faster operation in some of them, and also filters for graphics in some of them.

Thanks for the info. I may wait a couple of months before upgrading then. I like that there's now sleep mode without having to hit the home button. The amount of times I've closed the system without hitting home first...argh >.<

So, which emulators run ok on N3DS?

Snes, Genesis and Gameboy? The rest not so much?

SNES, Genesis, NES, Master System, GB, GBC, GBA, CPS1, CPS2, older MAME games, Turbographx/PC engine, and probably more I'm forgetting... In short, pretty much everything pre PS1/N64.

Neo Geo, NGP/C, MSX1/2/+, Wonderswan/Color, FDS, Sega CD, TGCD. Makes me hope we see more systems added like 2600, DOS, C64, Lynx, PCFX, 3DO, Scumm, Pokémini, etc.

PS1 also runs well if you have earlier firmware and can use dynarec/CIA. N64 may not be out of reach really.

Anyone having issues with CatSFC in the last few nightly builds? I skipped pretty much everything in November and updated today with the 12/1 nightly. Retroarch's menu won't show up on the top screen with that one.

I tried the past couple days and had the same thing. Randomly picked 11/18 and that one works, so I'm going with that for now.

.3dsx version by the way.

Yea, I just did a big homebrew update, including the 12/1 nightly. CatSFC is pretty much a garbled mess. Sound is all crackly and graphics are glitched up with black bars(I guess?).

Amazing that these nighties don't seen to get checked out tested.

I want to update to the latest 3ds version. Ironfall is my entry point with OoT as a backup so I don't care about losing themehax. But I'm confused as exactly what the process is, especially because smealum said "10.2 ironhax users should update payload BEFORE updating firmware."

could someone please help me with what to do? I'd really love you forever

Use the the ironhax or oothax installer to update the respective app's payload to 10.3 before updating your system's firmware. When you're asked what FW you're on in the installer, select 10.3.

So has anyone been having trouble with the latest builds? I wanna try getting GBA games to work better as Wario Land 4 was giving me slowdown last I updated months ago. However, I don't wanna mess up what I currently got. Can anyone recommend a good nightly date to start using?

I recently updated to the 12/1 nightlies(CatSFC, gbSP, Genesis Plus GX, QuickNES, FBA Neo Geo) and the only one I've had problems with is CatSFC. Everything runs perfectly.

Just tested out Wario Land 4 and it was running smoothly. Sound crackles a bit after hitting the bomb at the end of the level, but framerate was holding at 60(I only tested the tutorial level). Some other GBA games probably drop down a little(I know Drill Dozer can drop to ~50 when drilling), but it's definitely playable.

This is on a N3DS.

What problems do you have with CatSFC? It's the one I primarily use.

It's the one I primarily use too.

I'm getting graphical glitches and speed up in games. DKC2 is a glitched, flickering mess on the map screen and some of the titles screens. Minor stuff in Mega Man X, Super Mario Kart and Earthbound. I'm also getting fast motion gameplay in non-US version games, ie. Europe.

I haven't had these problems 'til recently.

Having troubles with this...

I updated to the 12/11 nightlies; I wanted to see if I could get GBA running faster, and whenever I open up any emulator I get this message:

"unsupported version

Please update your payload"

Any ideas on what I can do? I tried updating the payload through the Homebrew Launcher page, going to the otherapp/ropbin payloads and trying to update it to my firmware version and all that did make it so the emulator won't even boot up! I got Retroarch back running but the same problem still applies regarding the payload!

Fyi, I'm running version 10.2ish. All I want is for GBA games to run well :'(

I think you just need to download the starter zip from that page again, copy it to your SD card and then re-run the installer for whichever method you're using to access homebrew.

Thanks! I'll figure it out. I'm using homemenu atm, hope I can get it working.

No idea what I'm doing wrong :( Menuhax is weird as hell and super confusing, moreso than I remember it being
