Buu was going in a fantastic direction right up until Super Buu appeared. That's when the narrative fell apart. The ending on the world of Kais was good, but that lack of focus in the middle really kills the entire arc.

Super Buu made no goddamned sense.

He was created because Fat Buu split himself into a good Buu and evil Buu, and then basically became whole again, right? So why did he become more powerful as Super Buu? He should have had the same power he had when he was the original Fat Buu.

Pissed off Fat Buu was definitely the scariest Buu. Like a switch went off when he started torturing Majin Vegeta and when he turned on Babidi, he still had a childlike morality that could be changed but he was NOT as dumb as he seems to act.

Super Buu is Fat Buu with mostly full access to his power, the good Kai is no longer holding him back now that the evil side has taken over.

Because Fat Buu was held back by his goofy/good side, which is later revealed to be the Dai Kaioshin. In Super Buu, although the components are the same, Buu's original evil side has greater control of the power, resulting in a power up.

So then shouldn't he have turned into Kid Buu rather than Super Buu?

Super Buu and the entire absorption plot had a lot of potential. The story behind Kid Buu -> Fat Buu is so captivating - it really fleshes out the Dragon Ball world and helps bring it to the universal stage it had been heading towards up until that point. An ancient evil "corrupted" by a benevolent God? That's an amazing idea. The Kai flashback was one of the high points of the series.

Biggest ball drop? Gohan not using the Z-sword. His mystic powerup was cool and all but if he barged in with a holy sword and proceeded to cut Buu up I would have forgiven all of its pacing and narrative based woes up until that point.

Kid Buu's nebulous power level (is he stronger than the other Buus? Weaker?) lack of personality, Gohan's failure and regression as a character, the torch being passed back to Goku, bleh. Buu had me at hello but lost me halfway through the dinner date. The idea of Kid Buu as an uncontrollable, chaotic force of nature is pretty interesting in and of itself but Super Buu was a more compelling villain. He should have been a flashback only form, explaining how he came to be the way he was.

No, he still has the south Kai and the Dai kaioshin inside him, the only difference is that the good(weakening)influence of the fat Kai was greatly lessened in Super Buu.

Absorbing the fat kai locked away a lot of Buus power, it was a straight up negative for Buu to absorb him. This is why Buff Buu(the one with only south kai absorbed) is stronger than Super, Super still has remnants of fat kai holding him back.

Does that make Buff Buu the strongest villain before Beerus/Whis showed up?

I'm glad he lasted less than half an episode. What a terrible design. Roid Buu. South Kaioshin was a real badass, though.

Wait, Super Buu looked like he did because he absorbed the South Kaioshin?

Gohan and Gotenks Buu were stronger.

Well yeah. Buff Buu is what he looks like with just the south Kai absorbed.

Remember the evil Grey Buu(there's no real reason he's grey and skinny), he absorbed good Buu and he became pink and jacked and taller, lessening the fat Kai influence and getting closer in design/looks to Buff Buu.

I mean, I use to assume that was the case, but if you look at the buff Buu pic posted above, right after he absorbed South Kaioshin, he looks far bigger and bulkier than he did in Super Buu form.

Uh yeah, Buff Buu is stronger than Super. Super still has some of the good Kai in him making him not as buff.

My guess would be that when Evil Buu absorbs Fat Buu, he diminishes Great Kaioshin's influence in favor of his original destructive nature, but at the same time it's not like he got rid of him entirely. So he ended up looking a bit different than the roided out Buu from the flashback.

I always understood it as:

-Super Buu with Gohan absorbed is the most powerful form.
-Vegitto is the only one more powerful than said Buu.
-Kid Buu is completely unrestrained, but still noticeably less powerful than Super Buu + Gohan.
-But Vegitto is no longer around, so Kid Buu is more than enough to kick Goku and Vegeta's asses.

Gohan Buu is the strongest villain.

Vegito is the strongest character.

The thing about Kid Buu that makes no sense is the fact that he became Kid Buu again when he spit out everyone... even though Fat Buu still had Dai Kaioshin inside of him.

Mathematically, he would have become the grey "evil" Buu again.

I liked that Krillin was scared in the latest episode of Super. I mean, Namek really fucked him up compared to the Cell and Buu sagas. The old Saiyan uniform is probably still a thing of his nightmares.

I liked it because we never really see how any of the conflicts effect the characters emotionally after they happen.

Evil Buu still has some kai influence in him as seen by the cape and clothes. The process by which he was born was different from other Buus, he's evil energy made manifest that was expelled, not an actual physical Buu created via some sort of absorption.

When Super Buu was born he restructured everything so that every single bit of the kai influence was contained inside the Mr.Buu pod, you rip that out and pure original kid Buu is left.

I agree. That was actually good writing.

Excatly, made a lot of sense for Krillin to be shook.

But Gohan could've beaten kid buu in a second. That's the problem with the kid buu fight. I get the whole G and V not wanting to fuse again because of pride.

And Goku not saving gohan was dumb, but whatever.....

But when the earth came back, and gohan was just chilling there....I was like....um, Kabito, go get him much?

Goku actually thought Vegeta was going to use the Dragonballs to wish Gohan to the Kai planet to take of Buu, but Vegeta opted for a Spirit Bomb.
