PlayStation 2 comes to PS4 official trailer

That's the thing though, we've had a few last gen digital games come over, like Brothers off the top of my head, and it was not discounted or brought over, just a full price game again. I definitely can understand the disappointment of not having PS2 games already owned not being carried over, but I don't remember when they said they would carry over. That might be something I missed, though.
They didn't. People assumed they would be automatically carried over because of Sony's classics crossbuy (which, to be fair, was previously just between PS3 and handhelds)

This is their new emulation process. Yeah it sucks to have to rebuy games you want to play but you bought games for PS3... They're there for people who want them, if the pricing is outrageous and no one buys then they'll either adjust or reconsider the campaign entirely

I want to play Twisted Metal on my PS4. I will pay what I need to

Fully understanding the disappointment, not understanding the outrage from some

If GTA San Andreas looks noticeably better than I might buy it again for like the 5th time.

I just can't get enough of that damn game.

This is actually hilarious. Sony is never going to have backwards compatibility on any of their systems at this point. I mean sheesh. $15 for games that came out so long ago that I already own? That's bullshit.

And yet people are defending them. And those people are on gaf of all places. The people who got Microsoft to change their always online requirement. We could change this. But a TON of people here seem to be ok with it "it's running at 1080p" (it's not). Who the fuck cares if there is a resolution bump and trophy support. This whole thing is grossly anti consumer.

And you know what? Microsoft is watching. Can't wait till the ps5 and Xbox 2 release with no bc. And the online marketplaces are filled with 4k/60fps $60 ports of ps4/xb1 games that you already own. And $15-$30 4k/30fps ports of PS3/ps2 and 360/ogxbox games you already own.
"B-b-but they aren't the same game, they run at a higher resolution now. Who cares if I have to buy them every single console generation at hyper inflated prices."

I don't see what's so outrageous about the 14.99 prices? You can get 4 games for the price of one current gen game so I'll take it.

There's only one PS2 game I would make time to play thru again (FFXII) and $15 would be OK for a game of that size and scope.

Yeah, it will be up to the sales and the general audiences to see if this catches on or needs adjustment. I hope some of these games turn out incredible. A better running Twisted Metal: Black is hard to ignore, definitely!

If emu was free to develop, you might have a point. But it's not. Expecting free BC for all future PS devices would require one hell of a lot of work on Sony's part. I fail to see anything 'anti-consumer' about it -- the games still work on the devices you bought them for. So, yes, while it's better if there is free BC, or crossbuy, expecting it and crying 'anti-consumer' if you don't get it makes no sense. Sony never promised to be developing PS2 BC for the PS4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc, let alone handing it out for free.

Demand for Xenosaga is surprisingly high in this thread. I didn't realize there were so many of us! Keep it up, guys! Make some noise! Tweet Yoshida!

Yeah the Xenosaga series was one of the few games that I hold dear to my heart. Its one of the games that my dad and I beat together.

So count me in for a Xenosaga release :)

I wonder how hard this is to do, Ps2 had so many great games I could see this making Sony so decent money if they can turn them out fast enough to justify it.

Seeking audience's attention, they'd through you weapons/meat, meat on one hand to give you health with each bite and a scimitar on the other for mutilation. Shadow of Rome was an underrated gem of a title from Capcom for the PS2.

I love that the audience brings in giant halberds and beautiful huge swords to toss down to you.

But yeah, that game is the bomb. I really hope we can get a push for it to be brought over sooner rather than later though. It's criminally overlooked, and I'm worried it won't ever show up, same as how it hasn't shown up as a PS2 classic on PS3.

Phew, 15 bucks is pricy. Was expecting 10 to be the norm.

Best version of San Andreas though...fuck it it's Christmas, I deserve a present :-D

Meltdowns are unbecoming.

Calm down a bit. I didn't buy my PS4 to play old games to start with. Playing PS2 games is a nice feature to have, but i could technically go my entire time without it, since i already own a full PS2 library i can play at any time.

Faulting other people for not getting so bent out of shape because they either don't even have a PS2 or own the software doesn't make much sense to me.

There are people who just don't see it as a big deal. You can rant about it, but don't act like everyone has to have your same outrage.

Their competition released backwards compatibility for. Free. Sony is dominating the console market. And riding their high "4thegamers" high horse throughout this generation. They could AT LEAST allow people to play their digitally bought ps2 games at their original framerate and resolution for free on their ps4.

But guess what? Then people would realize what a bad deal paying $15 bucks for games that came out almost 15 years ago simply at a higher (and not even full 1080p) resolution really is. And it would cut into their profit. So you know what? Yeah fuck whoever decided to do it this way. They literally saw their competition do it the right way. And I doubt it was cheap for Microsoft to do. Hell it probably cost more as the 360 games are more demanding that ps2 games

Wish the games had Platinums and were crossbuy with the PS2 classics released on PS3.

I might pick some title I missed from PS2 era (on sale). I think $15 is a bit too expensive, but I can see them selling well.

Now it's not even full 1080p anymore? Why? Because of the borders?

Some will have platinums!

And some will be $10, like Twisted Metal.

Don't buy the games, case solved. Bitching isn't gonna change their mind. I'm sorry they are not letting you play 13 year old games (which you still can on a ps2) for free on a ps4.

Everyone panicking about the pricing... just chill for a sec.

We're going to have sales and most likely free PS2 games via PSPlus right?

I'm in Australia so we're going to get even more bent over... will prob be $25 per game here.

Think of the positives everyone!

Yo, yeah right on. I was surprised at the lack of PS2 remaster for PS3. Can you imagine how Shadow of Rome would look, if it was remade with Ryse's Crytek engine?

Well I hope not :-/ unless they come as a free bonus to the current staple, but there's no reason for that.

Prices are too high for games pretty much everyone already played (best selling console in history?).

I don't expect them to be $1, but $15 is just too much. Not even mentioning how far PS2 emulation is at this point...

I'm curious, why exactly is $15 "too much" for PS2 games?

I mean you go on ebay and you see many of these are $20 used with $10 shipping, ect. Hell if Dark Cloud 2 happens and is priced the same that's $15 instead of almost $80. I don't get it.

That fucking line up.. Man.. You can't script this sort of shit can you. Why would you come out with that list, honestly, the GTA's are welcome, if not completely predictable, but some of that other stuff.. Wow.

Fingers crossed for VF4:EVO at some time just so this wasn't a total waste of my hype :(

What is wrong with the list?

That sting at the end.

Useless feature for me, not gonna rebuy my games just for emulation.

So PS4 is the only console since the GC to not be backwards compatible at all? Not count Xbox since was first of its kind.

Lol I played rogue Galaxy in Japanese. Nothing but guessing, it was brutal.

Probably answered, but things like Twisted Metal, and upcoming games, there's net play?

I love that you complain about the list then express hope for a game that 90% of the PS2 market couldnt have given less of a shit about.
