We don't even know if there is or isn't going to be an upgrade option.

Lets wait for 10 am tomorrow.

That's 10 PM for me tonight ;)

No discount? $15? ... The fuck Sony?

We don't know of any discounts YET, but really they should make it so if you already own a PS2 classic, you only need to pay $5 to get its PS4 ver.

But hey I don't see many complaining about FF7 PS4 port, so what's the big deal.

So because Sony will one day close its doors, that should in some way excuse/alleviate the utterly dogshit practices they are displaying in the now? What's more, the tech is already there. There is no excuse at all. We criticize Nintendo for being behind the times in many areas, but Sony, the top dog right now, should be held to a higher standard. How they haven't caught up to Valve, Apple, and Google at this point is fucking unthinkable. We're going into 2016, but they are stuck in 2006.

Not honoring legacy purchases of PS2 classics sucks, i don't think we are in disagreement with that at all. But we should atleast wait until PSX before going crazy about it.

These are the PS2 games that I want the most.

If Sony can pull a few strings to release some of these on PS4, then I'll be pretty happy.

Sony's team would probably do 100 times better at re-releasing Silent Hill 2 & 3 that the team Konami hired to do the HD ports.

What time is it?
Silent Hill 2 is a good call too. I really want to give it another shot and hopefully will not chicken out like I had previously.

Ugh, I waited and waited for Sony to clarify but it's now clear they have no interest respecting any PS2 Classics purchases, which is really disappointing based on how great they've been over the last few years. As a result, I've little interest in this line. Most Classics (almost entirely PS1 Classics) I bought last gen were bought more for collection purposes than actually playing them but what's the point of collecting them when they'll probably just sell them separately again next gen? At the very least, an upgrade fee should've been arranged.

All I can do is hope they don't fuck us over with PS1 Classics too.

Considering Yoshida already made things clear on Twitter, I'm not getting my hopes up at all. But hey, I'm prepared to eat mountains of crow otherwise.

This.

Disc and Classics are not compatible and that sucks. But to say it's 100% greed to sell you the same games is ignoring the fact that only a tiny fraction of the install base is actually interested in replaying PS2 games as they were... Up-res and trophies may make them more enticing to replay to the general user base. That requires work and money, there is a reason they are launching with only 8 tiles.

With that said... I will be extremely salty if there is no upgrade path for the Classics I already own.

A lot of games from that image are currently PS2 classics (Bully, Shinobi, Maximo) that you can buy on PS3, so I think it's likely that we'll see them on PS4 sooner or later. Totally with you on TImesplitters. That NEEDS to happen.

Can't wait for the PS2 coming to Vita trailer tomorrow.

I can't claim i'm coming from a place of objectiveness because i don't really care about BC at all, especially over the new games coming out next year...but i do think it is imperative for Sony to give its legacy consumers a bone.

I'm definitely picking up Twisted Metal Black, one of the best games on PS2. Hopefully EU can get a non-censored version this time and the trophies are fun.

Also I hope they get platinums at those prices.

The new released version of gta san Andreas for Ps3 has a platinum. Think there is a good chance for the rest of the games.

PS2 emulation confirmed! Awesome!
But all your PSN titles won't work. What.
And our new titles will cost $15. ....Fifteen dollars. Really.

Kind of curious but do you guys think getting games with a licensed soundtrack on psn are gonna be a problem ala Def Jam Fight for NY or NBA Street?

Haven't seen any mention of it, but: will these be 60 fps, or will it be native, or somewhere in between?

Is that the same fee that Microsoft charges when previously purchased downloadable Xbox 360 games are played on Xbox One?

Whatever fee Microsoft charges in this situation is what Sony should be aiming to match to carry over previously purchased downloadable PS2 games to PS4. Not a penny more.

Because they applied graphical and performance improvements to them.
PS3's PS2 emulator would run the game as 1:1 as possible.
So if a game ran at 30 FPS, it'd run at 30 FPS if played using the PS3 emulator.

The PS4 releases will have performance and graphical improvements and that's why it's $5 higher.

FYI Digital Wii VC on Wii U are priced $15-20 and I am of the understanding that they don't offer any graphical or performance improvements.

Wait so so how is 14.99 not a fair price? PS2 classics on ps3 where 9.99 with pretty much a straight emulation that was spotty at times and had very limited options to improve the game. Yet on the Ps4 versions you get a uprendered 1080p, trophy support, online multi-player with share play, smoother or better frame rate in some games, and a whole bunch of extra options and you expect to pay the same exact price as the ps2 version?

Please explain how all those extra options does not justify a price increase?

Also no upgrade for PS2 classics on ps3 sucks and I hope Sony soon changes this.

No np they shouldn't. What Microsoft does has nothing to do with this

Don't forget that some PS2 classics will cost $9.99, like Twisted Metal Black. It seems that is being ignored by some.

Wow, 15€? Even 9.99€ seems ok, still I don't understand why some games should cost more, like Sony did with Ps1 titles anyway.
And this is just because you can unlock trophies?
Man, PS2 HD Collections on PS3 were way cheaper that those PS2 isos, at least HD Collection were actually ports, totally reworked and fixed from the ground.
Those are just Isos with an emulator to bump the res/fps and trophy support.

I don't really know what you expect of the pricing, but regular PS2 classics on PS3 are 91 sek (roughly $10)here in Sweden.
So the pricing of a $5 increase shouldn't come as such a big surprise as some of you seem to think.

Probably depends on the game which why they only touted 1080p in the trailers, the star wars racer revenge p2 game out on ps4 right now Runs at 60fps but not at a native 1080p.

It still doesn't justify the price. You're basically running the same game on newer hardware that you already bought. It's like flipping Valve another $5 just because I bought a new machine to run Portal on?

There's nothing stopping you from running Wii discs on the Wii U for much cheaper.

Shit I just noticed that. I'm gonna assume the extra $5 might be due to licensing or for certain additional work done to the games?
I actually have TM Black on US PSN, and wouldn't mind paying a small fee for getting it's PS4 ver. :p
I don't have War of the monsters though, held off on getting it and am now glad to pick it up on PS4 if the port ist good :D

But you can use Wii discs if you'd prefer.

This is a really shitty way of putting PS2 games on PS4. They got away from large audience boos by revealing this on the blog instead. I bet that wasn't the case before the backlash yesterday.

Why are you pretending everyones played the same game they're going to buy. I havent bought any ps2 classics or have any disks so this is a welcome addition. I understand the pain of people who do have ps2 disks and bought classics.

Also guys plz dont shit this thread up as well. Theres already a thread dedicated to shouting at sony. Id rather talk about the titles here.

Anyway this isn't backward compatibility at all, because it lacks the basic feature of backward compatibility: the possibility to use your old games.
Also take San Andreas: that was on PSN for PS3, why someone should rebuy it? This simply sucks, Sony knows, everybody knows, but people don't want admit it.
