Rogue Galaxy is an incredible games too bad I already own it and refuse to pay for any of these games again. Should've supported ps2 discs. Such a shitty move by Sony.

Not surprised by the price tbh, as soon as it became apparent these would have trophies it was obvious that they wouldn't be cheap. Implementing trophies costs dev/QA time and someone needs to pay for that.

Would have been better without trophies really but I guess they've determined this is what people want.

God yes! I played the shit out of Summoner 2.

I played the shit out of 1. 2 seemed like it was going to be a massive improvement in almost every single way, Too bad the disk I had wouldn't play beyond a certain point a few hours in.

Xenosaga would be awesome though the only problem like with Dragon Quest VIII you'd really be able to tell the difference between in engine cutscenes and pre-rendered cut scenes and Xenosaga I had tons of cutscenes.

Also I can't believe my childhood brain didn't put this together but since we love our DBZ compairisons. Darck Cloud with the Dark Geanie is totally Majin-buu

If emu was free to develop, you might have a point. But it's not. Expecting free BC for all future PS devices would require one hell of a lot of work on Sony's part. I fail to see anything 'anti-consumer' about it -- the games still work on the devices you bought them for. So, yes, while it's better if there is free BC, or crossbuy, expecting it and crying 'anti-consumer' if you don't get it makes no sense. Sony never promised to be developing PS2 BC for the PS4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc, let alone handing it out for free.

I see both sides of the argument. On one hand, this is greed; but people will pay for it. Just like people pay for DLC, skins, etc. It's supply and demand and most importantly, ease of use. But how many gens are we going to go through where we repurchase the same games, over and over, at incredibly high prices? Probably forever - I blame the consumers. The original dev teams probably aren't seeing any money from this - I bet the publishers that own the IP are, though.

- Is it possible for Nintendo to come out with a cartridge attachment for Wii and WiiU to play old carts? Of course, will they ever? No.
- Has the homebrew scene done emulators since before they were a paid service in the industry by the big three? Yes; see NESticle kicking off the popularity in the 90's.
- Has the homebrew scene done dashboards and custom OS modifications before it was even a thing (original Xbox) in a better, more more efficient manner with more customization?

These kinds of technical feats are developed, arguably in a better fashion than industry standards, by groups of enthusiasts (sometimes by lone programmers) and hobbyists that communicate over the internet. For free. At no charge to the end-user.

Not allowing a discount with a licensing fee and a patch based system for disc loading just seems kind of cheap to me. Practices like these promotes laziness and encourages bad industry standards. This kind of greed is the reason why we will never have cross-platform netplay standardized or a consumer friendly playground like Steam offers on consoles. It's the reason why Microsoft paved the way for consoles to begin charging for access to online infrastructure. Can these things be done in a manner that would not shaft the consumer? Those concepts are neglected because they can get away with it.

To me, these releases are simply one step up from the SEGA ports to Steam that use Kega Fusion: upscaled with achievements and savestates. It's boring, it's too late and I doubt the library will be handsome enough for me to care.

I think it's bubkis that they haven't moved forward Classics still. The value of up-ressing is there, but these are a real specific set of games. It's just tough that old purchases aren't brought forward and it's hard to believe these will carry any forward-movement either.

Having slept on it, I've come to terms with it, but still see it as far and away the most disappointing turn out for getting PS2 titles in PS4.

I get it though. These alterations to upres and add trophy support, and testing to make sure it all runs acceptably, that costs money. As does licensing and getting age ratings.

Would at the very least a discount for Classics owners, similar to what Nintendo does with the WiiU's VC, or PS+ discount, have been a small gesture to not come across as greed dickheads? Yes, but oh well. These will at least get semi regular, well discounted sales.

But what I'm not ok with, is the established precedent with international releases and publisher apathy.

Living in the EU, there's a huge number of PS1&2 Classics we missed out on because publishers couldn't be arsed to get them rated across Europe. Combine that with the games lost to time due to IP holders forgetting about them, contested ownership rights, publishers going belly up, or simply being held by cunts like Konami, and the actually library of titles I and most of the world will likely get to play, is a tiny, tiny fraction of the utter masterpieces that made the PS2 the greatest gaming machine to ever exist.

So I'm still happy to be getting any PS2 games. The resolution increase is certainly brilliant, and I know people like trophies, though I myself turned the notification for them off because I just find them annoying.

But this is very much the Bronze Medal of 'backwards compatibility'.

I mean let's be fair, when Nintendo are doing a better job at this, you know it's a bit of a balls up.

You can see why Sony is doing it too. Judging by posts on GAF on all places people are willing to pay for a PS2 game, PS2 classic on PS3 and then rebuy it as a "PS4" game. Hell, I bought bunch of disk based games on PS3 myself, but this is not happening the third time.

Exciting stuff that these are kinda remasters.

CAPCOM, THIS IS YOUR TIME! GIVE THE WORLD REMASTERED RESIDENT EVIL OUTBREAK!

They would be silly not to, I'd get it day 1.

This announcement does nothing for me sadly. All of my favorite PS2 games were remastered for the PS3 (and in physical form as well). I can play every single PS1, PS2 and PS3 game I care about on that system.

Seems these are more than just the emulator what with adding trophies, question is have they just added trophies to justify the price tag or have the game received extra work?

The price is a let-down, I assume £12 in the UK - I guess I'll just was for sales on must have titles.

If Atlus can put in the whole Growlanser series and Nisa's Ar Tonelico 1 & 2 along with glorious trophy support, I would not hesitate to buy all of them even if they're $15-20 each.

If the games are sold on the PlayStation network, my personal belief is that it should be owned by the account. I shouldn't have to rebuy apps on the Google store or I store if I get a new device. I feel this should be the same for sonys service. I won't be buying any unless they go crazy cheap in a sale. Other people are free to do what they want tho :)

extremely disappointing, can imagine those with dozens of old games having to pay all over again for the games they own

Say what you want about Xbox and MS, their approach to BC is much much better.

You have summed my thoughts up here pretty well, I was literally going to start my post with "having slept on it".

I don't expect additional work to be given to me for free so I'm happy to pay, but it would be nice if as a gesture they took into account previous purchases of the same title.

I'm about to drop £25 on PSN sale for Uncharted Collection, I wouldn't expect them to give me that for free I owned the previous ones digitally nor do I expect to be able to put my ps3 disc in and be able to play with the enhancements.

I guess we should be thinking of these as PS2 Remasters rather than Classics and this is certainly not BC.

I'll most likely only buy any when discounted or its a game I've never played that looks good.

It seems Sony could have used this technology to hit an absolute home run, as it stands they've somehow managed to slightly alienate some people before even having the chance to explain what it is and how exactly it's going to work.

I'm actually now looking forward to hearing the roadmap of games and hoping they use some as PS+ titles.

Damn, I'd pay them 60$ for a version of MH2 that offers the current control scheme (not that Analog Stick = Attack shit from the original PS2 games), 1080p resolution, 60fps and trophy support. Well, maybe leave that 60fps part out since the games of the series seem to have their logic tied to framerate but yeah. pls Capcom/Sony

Wait so so how is 14.99 not a fair price? PS2 classics on ps3 where 9.99 with pretty much a straight emulation that was spotty at times and had very limited options to improve the game. Yet on the Ps4 versions you get a uprendered 1080p, trophy support, online multi-player with share play, smoother or better frame rate in some games, and a whole bunch of extra options and you expect to pay the same exact price as the ps2 version?

Please explain how all those extra options does not justify a price increase?

Also no upgrade for PS2 classics on ps3 sucks and I hope Sony soon changes this.

Because you get Remastered collections last gen 3 for $40. And those are remasters, with actual graphic improvements, and in many cases new content from versions not released in certain regions.

There can't be many people willing to pay $15 for PS2 games they already own on disc or PS3. Surely most of the sales comes from fans that don't have access anymore to either version and people who want to experience some hyped classics for the first time.

They simply should have added a discount option for previous owners. Doesn't have to be much, like $5 off. But it would give you that warm fuzzy feeling to let the PS4 check the disc ID of one of your ancient PS2 games and have that contribute to a cheaper price. That alone would push me over as it would be nice to have these games permanently added to my PSN account (future-proof... unless they remaster them again :p). TBH it's unlikely I would play them much though, maybe a couple of levels, that's why I need that extra enticement.

For $15 per game I expect more considering the GoW and ICO, MGS etc. remasters are exactly that, upresed PS2 games with trophies. Those have more work done though graphically etc. ...

I've owned Dark Cloud on disc for.. years. It's on my shelf, looking at me and sometimes our eyes meet. I turn my head and take a glance at my currently broken BC PS3. I have another less cool PS3 plugged in but I have no interest playing anything on it. It's just sitting there next to the behemoth that is the PS4.

I would gladly pay $60 to play Dark Cloud again on the PS4.

It is one of my favourite games ever. I'm not alone with my thoughts.

Do you think there's a chance of games that already got a HD release on PS3 coming?

Really want to play Prince of Persia, and from the mountain of PS2 titles I have that Sony will never release or make any money off ever again, its probably one of the most likely ones.

Nice to see they are committed to Crosspay.

Crosspay works on games that are the same. These aren't. They are upscaled, have better framerate and trophy support. Mini remasters if you will. No one complains when bought last of us digital on ps3 but had to buy last of us on ps4. This no different in a way

Seems like those who are willing to pay..will pay anyway. For those that don't agree with this voice your concerns and simply don't buy the games, it certainly doesn't booster goodwill with a "minority" of their userbase but I'm honestly surprised how much faith people put into Sony anyway in regards to their games carrying over especially PSN.

Suikoden V
Suikoden III
Xenosaga Trilogy
Shadow of Destiny

Are the games I want

Problem is alot of the best PS2 Classics got ported to PS3. Instead of uprezzed emulation of.those games I'd prefer the PS3 ports to get ported to PS4.

Metal Gear Solid
Beyond Good and Evil
Kingdom Hearts
Devil May Cry
Street Fighter III Third Strike
Splinter Cell
Hitman
SotC
God of War
Prince of Persia
And many more need the PS3 versions ported

price makes sense considering ps2 classics are 9.99 for the PS3 and these are basically new hd versions. Now bring on Xenosaga and Onimusha!

Well, this turned out to be a dud IMO. Repurchase games you already own at a $15 premium.

Also, y'all defending this with "but they have trophies" are junkies.

It'll be good when they're on sale for $5, though.

They should've let us put in PS2 discs and play off of that. I mean, I get why they didn't, but they should've.
