Ah well we may not reach the anime intro goal NOW, but maybe further donations in the future can make it happen!

At any rate congrats to Ravi and co.
WE DO IT!

actually checked out the stream a bit earlier and they were showing doodles (and the doodling process which was p. neat) is that over and done with for the night?

We're still making the doodles and will be posting them all online for people to see, but we're changing the focus of the stream for a bit to mix things up.

This might seem like an incredibly dense question but who exactly are you? Are you the personable CEO dude in the video?

I'm not sure I would describe myself as "personable," especially on video.

But I am the CEO dude, yes, Peter Bartholow.

Sure you're not confusing the "personable" bit with Earl? Haha.

Had a question: Will there be other moves? Back + Attack, Quarter circle + Attack, etc.? Or just 3 attacks + 3 specials? Four characters, six attacks each = 24 moves, that's a nice "moveset". Just curious if there are plans for more or for combos longer than 3 attacks

And I was replaying the prototype, and I have to say that using the axe while platforming is so satisfying. There's just something about how Ajna readies the axe as you're flying through the air and the solid impact when you hook the wall. And having to ready the axe mid-jump reminds me of classic Tomb Raider

Edit: anyone have that link to the article where Lab Zero discusses their future plans for the game?

For context here.

In the past two hours roughly 25K in donations have come in. Should that rate hold the campaign will end somewhere around 1850K. If there was six hours left instead of 2.5, they'd probably about make the anime goal tonight.

There's no real doubt that the slacker-backer can bring in an additional 50K though. My only real concern is how long said Mystery Anime Studio is willing to wait. I mean, they've been talking about keeping it up a year, and presumably they can't touch the slacker backer funds until that campaign ends.

Alas, I doubt I'll ever know the answers to these questions, not anytime soon anyway. XD

Edit: Upped my contribution to 100usd. Tiny bit irresponsible of me to do that tonight, but I was gonna donate to at least that tier overtime via the slacker backer campaign so I figured I might as well bite the bullet. I

Pretty sure it's going to stay three attacks + 1 super. And the attacks won't all be available as soon as you get the characters. The supers might have multiple stages/upgrades or something like that, though.

I mean, people are already having issues with the battles with the current controls, and making the inputs more complicated would only increase the barrier to enjoyment for a lot of RPG people.

That's going to be one of the things we need to pay close attention to - balancing the execution threshold so it doesn't turn off more RPG-oriented people.

Haha! Well, I tend to compare everyone to how I am on video. ;) It's really super cool for you to be this active with the community.

Just a heads up WolvenOne, they showed your sketch on stream and it looked pretty good :)

They said they'd scan it & send it to you

Sent an email for a doodle. Will the doodle image be emailed to me? I might not stay up in time for the doodle to actually be completed since I assume there's a list of requests probably.

Yeah, we'll be e-mailing the doodles out when they're done.

Once we were past the extension, I knew this would be funded. But I have to say, I thought it would be an in-the-final hour finish. Never imagined it would be knocking on the door of the second stretch goal in the final hours

Dangit, I must of missed it when the stream blacked out on me, took me awhile to fix it. Oh well, I'll just be pleasantly surprised when I see it. Thanks for letting me know. :)

I can't believe that god awful anime convention commercial just got referenced. It's been years since I thought about that.

Revealing the anime studio could do wonders to the momentum. I know it's not Lab Zero's decision but still, just saying.

There probably isn't enough time for that information to really circulate, for it really to affect momentum TOO much at this point. I mean, if it had been revealed a few days ago, sure. The anime news sites would've picked it up and the extra press would've translated into additional donations. An hour and ten minutes before deadline though, I couldn't see it making a real difference.

If we're lucky, we'll be able to announce it before 2016.

...But given the speed at which Japan moves, I'm not particularly hopeful that will happen.

Yeeeeeeah, Japan.

The consensus seems to be that they have amazing artistic talent, but mindbogglingly frustrating business practices. Not to paint with a broad brush mind you, I'm sure many Japanese companies are fine.

In my experience, thus far, I would just say that some Japanese companies are just less awful than others.

I love their games and the culture and people, but dealing with Japanese bureaucracy and business practices can be unbelievably frustrating and is often times infuriating.

I seriously don't know how they get anything done.

Well, their economy hasn't exactly been firing on all cylinders for, about a generation now.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that. XD

Yeah, I actually read an article from a Japanese economist that came to the conclusion that the Japanese economy technically isn't a recession, but is in an entirely self-inflicted relative recession.

Basically, the entire rest of the world adapted to the digital revolution and reaped massive productivity gains. Japan was afraid to try new things, wouldn't buy off-the-shelf solutions, and instead tried to roll their own... none of which actually worked.

So basically imagine every Japanese corporation spending a ton of and money time on the Luminous Engine for 10 years instead of using Unreal, and then wondering why their economy is in bad shape.

I don't think it's just digital, although that is where it is most obvious. Even in industries and working environments where things are mostly physical in nature rather than digital, I think Japan on a whole has failed to really capitalize on globalization to recognize and adopt more efficient best practices, so things which Japan was best in during the 80s and 90s may no longer be the case today.

Seems legit!

Not that I want to pile on Japan for their shortcomings; but it is rather amazing how one country can generate such an intense love/hate relationship amongst so many people.

Yeah, I mean, there are huge cultural problems affecting the entire economy, too.

Like, the recession made people want to hold onto their jobs. So the old guard isn't retiring / taking their window seats. That means that the younger generation can't advance because vacancies above them aren't opening up, so it's really demoralizing / why even try.

Whenever I talk to Japanese game companies, though, I REALLY push Steam. I basically tell them it's free money, and they're always like "Hmm, I don't know anyone that uses it, so it's risky." And then you show them the data and they're still like "Hmm, I don't know."

There is also an issue I've seen where they give the creators WAY too much leeway over the business. And too much control over their products.

So, for example, I recently tried to get a company to put their new game on Steam. They said the creator didn't want to, because he likes the PS4 controller, he wanted unified leaderboards, and reply sharing.

None of those are legitimate reasons to deny your company potentially millions in sales, and can be worked around or basically come down to personal preference.

Like... they lack the will to save themselves, often times.

I thought we were done with Guest Characters? What is Speed-of-Sound Sonic with a dye job doing in here?

Which seems ironic considering it was their willingness to be open to foreign ides that let them play catch up so fast with the West and become a World Power at the turn/start of the 20th century. Might also be related to their aversion to immigration also representing a reluctance to absorb new/outside ideas?

Crossing my fingers for at least 65 before the stream ends. I mean, that puts the Anime Opening goal at 35K, Car loan territory! Surely the slacker backer can cover THAT at least. XD
