PSX: King of Fighters 14 Trailer - "PS4 Console Exclusive"

KOFXIII had unique character design and animation but it was limited. I saw it as a decent fighting game when compared to the competition in 2010, but never clicked on me like the older KOF and SNK games. Still, it was better than SFIV.

But it had no special win poses or special intros. Just the same win pose. Everything was replaced by text bubbles and photos. Really lame. Moves were limited as well. I did not like that approach and very few characters maintained their indentity like in the old games. Characters like Yuri and Mai were abominations.
By dropping the 90s pixels, they either had to do full 2D animation like Skullgirls or Arcsys games (unfeasible) or choose the 3D animation route. KOFXIII characters had the worst of both worlds really...

I really like that they added special animation intros with voice acting. There's were the budget goes! That is a novelty, even if the characters have bad graphics. If voice actors also do the ending quotes it will be even better. A short ending FMV for each team would be a nice addition.

Info graphic of leak.

this roster....
no rock... no team orochi..
i know i'm an old timer, but still ;_;
I would really welcome a
king of fighters: all around the world
starring ALL the characters ever used..
including rugal and everyone ;_;
that would be glorious...

As a long time SNK/KOF fan, I agree with you 100%. XIII felt soulless to me both visually and mechanically. Whereas graphics aside, this is shaping up to be the KOF I've been long waiting for.

Holy shit this looks hideous. I guess they don't have the budget to develop something with graphics similar to the previous games/Persona/Blazblue/Guilty Gear. Which is a real pity, because this is just ugh. Hope the gameplay is solid enough to make up for the ugliness.

ty guys, so is a Persona like feature, that's good, kof needs more mechanics to attract new people into playing the game

And for casuals too ;) Really such systems are worth having so that if someone has get together with friends, etc. they can join in on the fun without worrying about memorzing 100 moves XP

We now know the game is aiming to have 50 characters. I wonder what those games would look like with rosters 2-to-4 times larger, too. How many times must I buy BrayBrue before it has that size cast?

I mean, at least I'm glad we know the budget is going in a different direction, rather than just being low. Truly something to keep in mind from now on.

Oh, and the final victory screens have voiced quotes and unique animations (not just recycled mid-match victories), btw. This is good to hear.

Maximum Impact 2 had those kind of chain combos where you can mash HK for a string or whatever since it was character dependent, and they seemed pretty viable because they were special cancelable, so you can get some damage in. So it's not unique to the (side) series and I would think it would help players pick up the game, since stuff like canceling into HD combos from lights were pretty tricky to learn in 13, and even pro players mess up doing it in tournament matches.

Seems the backward walk for Kula is different now...which would be quite a shame, as the one she's always had was much better. Standing and jumping CD seem to be the same as the ones she gained in XIII.

Iori has a new fireball super? He activated it and there were some 'firecrackers" hovering in front of him.

Oh and ppl are activating max mode left and right but I don't think I've seen anyone cancel a special into a special yet.

A brand new fighting game experience, Party Battle Mode!
Get ready to duke it out with as many as six people (three players on each team) in VS Online Party Battle. Feel the heat of an authentic fighting game tournament experience via PSN!

I was right about it haha.
Fantastic thing, should be tons of fun.

That UI looks pretty sweet

"Neo Esaka" lol, you better give me a neat arrange of Esaka instead of that shitty version from XIII, SNK

The graphics don't bother me that much, but 50 characters = all interest lost. Don't have time to learn that many matchups.

you know what, this doesn't even look bad. it's totally passable, especially considering how many characters it has. looks like it plays really well too. i think i'm more excited about this now than sfv.

hopefully those great pre-fight and sidelined character animations finally come back. i'd be willing to forgive a lot for that kind of detail to return to the series.

Was I the only guy in the crowd who screamed when they announced 50 fighters. It felt odd and I shut up lmao.

Characters look really great at the character select.
Especially Kula

They actually don't , those photos are fooling you.

I saw it first hand and it really needs some polish. But the gameplay is solid had some fun playing it.

Ok, the graphics are looking better. Also, it's commendable how close the attacks look to the 2D counterpart of last games.
