Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Yeah, FFVII's world was really wacky and now it's gonna be more FFXV like. No more things like this which always weirded me out

It depends, considering all the strange monsters lurking in FFXV's world, like Samurai and Goblins. I don't think Square is as anal about adhering to "realism" as fans thing they are. I think they don't mind slipping in some strange and bizarre things into their "realistic" games. We'll probably see Cactaurs in this game, looking as cute and cartoony as they did in the other games. Tonberries too!

That was a mouth?

I always thought it was...a...thing.
It's a jaggy-mouthed Slenderman head.

Despite my overwhelming excitement, I think the ONLY thing that bothered me about the trailer was Barret. No, not the way he looks, not the glasses, but his attitude.

He seems to calm, collected and cool, while in the original was desperate, angry and loud.

Mmh... We'll see how it goes.

I actually like that Barret seems to have a brain in the new trailer.

With that said, I wouldn't mind if he still cursed like a sailor.

The only voice that seems not so great to me is Wedge. Have no problems with the other voices so far!

To be honest though bad voices usually come from children characters or female party members in JRPGs and FF, so we'll see how Tifa and Aeris are...

While watching the trailer all I could think of was FF XIII Versus, and I hope it plays exactly what Versus was going to be at first. I could never get into any turn based game that's not Disgaea so I'm really hyped to finally play FFVII.

This shot reminds me so much of REmake. And I mean this in the nicest way possible.

I love how the graphical style absolutely nails the feeling of those 90's-early 2000's pre-rendered backgrounds. Exploring FFVII's world in these graphics is a dream come true.

Looks cool.

Never really cared for a remake of this game, but I'm so glad that a lot of FF fans are getting their wish. The game itself is such a huge fan service.

I hope so. I like how strange FF7 was, even if that playhouse thing was bizarre.

They better keep the Snow Queen

Cant wait to see what the game looks like when they open it up outsied of Midgar. Its mega beautiful now. Seeing a gigantic snake impaled on a tree, or a giant cannon stretching out over the ocean will be mind blowing.

Cid and Barret not cursing left and right would be the worst thing ever. Otherwise from what they've shown so far I am absolutely loving the direction they're heading in.

Finally Square can make HD towns, thank god they worked their shit out.

Edit: Also for some reason Wedge reminds me of JonTron :lol, the goofy voice and everything

I don't mind if they toned down the cursing from Barret, since it always felt like a bit of overlap with Cid's character to me. But they'd better keep Cid's foul mouth intact, lol.

It's interesting that many saw what they wanted to see, expected to see, or were afraid to see. So many initial posts about it being an action RPG, whereas the battle system in the trailer is by command.

Edit: or not.

honestly what are the possibilities that there might be a boss fight that uses the ATB battle system? OR to go extreme, what if you can choose what battle system you want to play the game as?

This game reminds me so much of versus....i love it. Nomura is really going all out.

I'm glad they are toning down Barret. I loved his heart, but it felt like the whole "what japanese people think black people are like" stereotype. And the localization didn't help.

He can still have his character without being typical angry black dude.

Also, for as customizable as the combat is, with the materia system, most fights don't require any nuance whatsoever. You can just hold X the entire time.

And, to be honest, that's what I did most of the time, rather than try to most efficiently take out every enemy, including battles with the same layouts I had done 5 times before. Oh, it's three Bombs again, but why would I bother to even exploit their weakness when I can kill them while taking hardly any damage by just spamming attack.
What you're saying here has more to do with the game's difficulty level, rather than the Materia system itself.

All that happened in a single shot originally because they were literally moving on a still picture, not a fully 3d environment.

Yes, and the possibilities of modern technology makes it even more baffling that they don't know what to show and where to point the camera at to make a shot that actually makes a difference instead of focusing solely on making the screen look cool.

If rose tinted glasses are needed to appreciate that 1997 shot, then I'd suggest the whole team of FF7 Remake to wear them.

Wow, it looks amazing so far, and it's probably far far far farrrrrr away from being done. Glad to see a lot of the side characters put in the spotlight; they're showing "yes, this is the same story, just a completely new way to experience it."

I hope not. Those female character designs are terrible.

Yeah that's really the most appealing part of the game for me.

Yeah, Cid needs to curse like a sailor, and hopefully real curses and not mild or censored shit. I don't mind if they make Barrett less of a caricature of an angry black man though. I dig the new cool as fuck, badass Blade-like Barrett more. -)

It looks like Kingdom Hearts.

These "people are seeing things" posts are some kind of bizarre.

Good on Square Enix for doing this. I'm sure this is going to sell a crazy amount of units. Not only are the old school fans going to buy this, everyone else is too. Final Fantasy 7 had one of the most interesting artistic direction in the series; they can do a lot with this game. That being said, I wish more games got this kind of treatment like Ocarina of Time and the Metal Gear games.
