Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Yeah, remake Cloud definitely looks the best. He still looks like a pretty boy, but he's more rugged like he's seen some real shit, more realistic in character model with rough skin and freckles, yet at the same time retains the huge, thick spikey hair from the original design as opposed to the PS3 model with thinner hair.

Guys. Cloud spending some weeks at the gym doing bicep curls isn't going to make it look less ridiculous that he can wield such a sword.

Good Lord, we're going to get complaints about the arms and physical build forever eh?

I know man, it feels really weird that of all the countless things to talk about and speculate on what may be right or wrong, it's the arms that would be such a widespread concern. Fascinating.

Now THIS is purrfect. That gif of Cloud is legit!!! I wish that's how he looked in the Remake.

I would be surprised if they don't at least give an option to use his AC outfit somehow, but those Jet Set Radio shades need to stay at home.

Anyway...

After seeing this trailer, and thinking of the locations in the original game that are getting a face lift, can you imagine how bat shit crazy Gold Saucer will look in this game? From the attractions and the Chocobo Racing, to the battle arena and the prison, with the mini-games in between. It's gonna be tits.

Man, that looked great. The combat looks similar to Kingdom Hearts/FFXV, which excites me. Seriously can not wait for this to come out!!

Combat looks like... Type-O X Kingdom Hearts X Versus 15 successor. That's a pretty hype combination but I will say that I am a tad bit sad its not turn based. I'm playing FF X HD on PS4 for the first time and I feel so immersed and incredibly connected to the characters. I feel like I really know them and the turn based IS SO GOOD. Heck, FF X pretty much answers all the complaints I had about FF XV. I'm still hyped for XV and the FF7 Remake but dang... Small part of me is wishing at least one of those 2 games were turn based.

Way past a teenager. FFVIII and FFIX are the ones which had teenage protagonists.

FFX's Tidus and FFXII's Vaan were 17.

Not really way past. He's 21 in this game.

One thing I want to see in the remake is the fushion swords in Advent Children. It's really cool on film and I also think it can be used in variety ways to change play style in game. Consider that this sword is Nomura's idea, I hope he can add it in

I'm almost certain he'll get those in at least as DLC.

Edit:

Well, at least in it's complete form.

I only particularly find it weird since I think his stature and design are actually fine.

Guess I watch too much anime. ¯|_(ツ)_|¯

Cloud looks like some kind of 80s junkie hair metaller. Overall it looks pretty great though. Interested to see some scenes beyond Midgar and how they approach them.

I think whatever way you look at it with the Remake design, he's pretty solid. He looks like a genetically modified, scrawny pretty boy. I guess that works lol.

I don't think that AC comparison is great, though. It's a totally different emotion.

No, all that Advent Children shit is fucking stupid

I'm pleased that there hasn't been too much negativity about the combat. At least on here.

I guess most of that got vented out after the E3 trailer. lol

It's one of the things that made FF7 great. Turn based battle systems involve more strategy and put more focus on the secondary characters.

It's not an overreaction because SE just laid out the main focus of the battle system right there in the trailer. You have that nice combo meter beside the HP(that everyone thought was ATB), which makes it pretty clear that button mashing will not just be a thing in this remake, it'll be encouraged since the combo meter starts going down when you're not landing any attacks on the enemy.

I don't find action RPG mechanics any more "modern" than turn based. Action RPGs have been around for pretty much the entire history of video game RPGs, they've evolved, just as turn based combat has, but turn based and action battle systems are entirely two different game mechanics. A comparable to this would be like an OoT remake being turned into a turn based RPG.

And calling turn based RPG outdated is like calling modern Civ games outdated because they're turn based rather than real time. But if you play all the Civs in order, you can see how the turn based mechanics have evolved, that's what I expected out of this remake, not a hack and slash.

Exactly my thoughts. FFVII is my favorite game. No matter how pretty this dumbed down version looks, I'm worried that playing it could ruin FFVII for me. I actually might skip it and only watch my favorite summons on youtube.

If you don't want the 20 year old battle system to change what you gotta do is watch a full let's play of FF7 Remake whilst playing the original alongside it.

There you go, new cutscenes and gameplay between battles, same old fighting system :-p

So the good memories you've held for decades will be wiped out by not liking the combat system of a remake?

hm.

If someone could screenshot his grin vs Kadaj when the airship flies away, I think that would fit better. Or something from the final battle, at least. He looks way more determined there.

I'm not saying they gotta buff him out, I just think a little bit more thickness to him would help him not look like he has a severe eating disorder. Here's my quick and dirty edit:

Yeah. I don't think adding a few pounds to his frame would be unreasonable.

Overall though, it's a great model and the best HD version of Cloud to date.

He's a genetically modified. I think whichever way you view him, he looks fine.

Ignoring people nit picking about meaningless shit.

GODDAMN HYPE.

So long as this isn't stuck in development hell... and it shouldn't be - they have a defined world and setting already, looks like they're stealing XIV's combat system - and hopefully combining it with the FFVII materia development system, so they just need muscle to grind it out.

One thing i've been thinking about is now that voice acting is in the main game, how the emotional scenes will turn out. There are a lot.

WARNING MASSIVE SPOILERS, IGNORE IF YOU STILL HAVE YET TO PLAY FFVII!!!

Cloud, Barret, and Tifa after Reno and Rude destroy the Sector 7 support plate killing Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie and countless civilians. Barret also thinking his daughter, Marlene, was killed as well.

Red XIII finding out the truth about Seto realizing he was not a coward that abandoned Cosmo Canyon but was the lone hero that saved it.

B
arret confronting his long time friend Dyne after thinking he was dead for years and is forced into a confrontation in which he has to fight him or be killed himself.

Aerith's death.

Cid canceling the spaceship launch due to Shera refusing to leave the engine room during takeoff while she is trying to fix a fault she discovered with the oxygen tanks, finally making it to outer space and realizing that after years of treating Shera terribly for what happened that she actually saved his life.

Seeing scenes like these in fully updated HD graphics with full voice acting will be something else.

That's interesting, because I find games like FFXII, XIII and FFXV to be evolved versions of turn-based RPGs in basically the same way as Civ has evolved.

I can see how Mana/KH style combat is kind of a lesser version of tactical thinking than turn-based RPGs.... but I don't think that's what this is. It looks to me, like XII, XIII and XV, to be a totally new version of RPG combat where command-based tactics have been reworked into real-time scenarios.

Sometimes I worry that people who are this dogmatically against real-time RPGs had their minds frozen in a binary choice between FF and KH, not realizing there are a trillion permutations of how to rework classic RPG mechanics in both turn-based and real-time scenarios. The real time scenario does not necessarily imply "mash X... plus there are hit points, I guess".

Think as a game designer and break down FF7's classic game elements, and think of the 100000 ways they could be reassembled into new dynamics. Trust me that the possibilities are endless.

Did you read the whole thread? There definitely has been.

Around the internet, it's similarly split.

I skimmed through some of the earlier parts. I was expecting a lot more anxious rage than I saw.

I was far more active in participating in the discussion back then so that's probably why it seems a little less heated to me.

I'm also the one that always said prefering turn-based but from limited of what I seeing there's seemingly a room for pause micromanagement ala Dragon Age game from that trailer and more slow than XV too, somehow giving me vibe of classic Parasite Eve combat going on.

I think I'm ok with that if its really like what I'm thinking

There will always be FF VII fans who think changing anything else than graphics is literally blasphemy, going so far as to proclaim that it might even destroy their childhood memories.

No matter what Nomura does, it will be wrong. And Nomura is certainly well aware of that. That's why he deciced to completely overhaul the combat system instead of fighting a losing battle to just slightly adapt the old one to make everybody happy.

God help us all if it's a white guy playing Barret

I've heard that in the Japanse edition, he is actually spoken by a Japanese!

That would in turn make him less faithful to his original design.

He's always very lean.

Why there's "DEFEND" option in menu if this really full-time real-time action combat? wouldn't its just can simply assigned to button?

I don't see any evade move in that trailer too.

Yeah maybe the battle is heavy on micro management like XII just without ATB, but you still not completely play it like action game.
