Dragon Ball Super |OT| 28 Episodes Later

I enjoyed this one. The parallels drawn between the Saiyan Saga and this episode really drove home a theme that seems to be through this Arc.

We've got Krillen freaking over Frieza's goons until Roshi reminded him that he's still rediculously powerful in scale to the Universe.
We've got Freiza recollecting his embaressment over his two defeats (via Gohan, Goten and Trunks) and going tyrant over it. We have a return to the hyper bollocks time chamber in the form of whatever puesdo-plane that Goku and Vegeta got sent to; presumably to exit later in some form of rebirth. Now we have an echo of the Saiyan Saga with Piccolo stepping in to save Gohan once again.

There is all these reminders of how people have changed since the old days. It gives me hope that Gohan will step back up to train and be the best he needs to be. Krillen did it, Frieza immediately did it as soon as he was revived. Hell, even Ginyu stepped up to the plate when given the chance. All I'm saying is that there's hope and with Toriyama not directly writing these; we'll have hope after the movie sagas get out of the way.

Assuming I'm not just getting my hopes up since I don't read the manga...

FAKE EDIT: My first NeoGaf post and it's a post in a DB topic. Go figure.

Some questions about Ginyu... How come he never used the body trading technique earlier if he was always able to do it? It's been so many years. And how was he able to control Tagoma's powers? We all know what happened on Namek, after all.

Not sure if it was explained and I missed it somewhere.

Humans wouldn't be able to read his alien language

It's mentioned in this episode by Jaco that Ginyu has the ability to draw out the host body's power. If you look back at the Namek arc, it's clear that Ginyu and Butter were surprised by how low his power was after the body change, so it doesn't seem like that's what's usually meant to happen. So, this new information fits in pretty well with Z, unlike some of the other retcons.

Frieza returns 5 years after Buu.

What do you mean "certain echelon of power"? We already knew since the Buu saga that you can get a lot weaker after not training, this isn't the 1st time this has happened to Gohan. If you're talking about Super Saiyan levels then we've already seen a similar kind of thing with Goku, his dead body being more reslient allowed him to use SSJ3 easier, when he was alive he could barely keep up the form before it drained him. Training and the state of your body matters when it comes to using super saiyan transformations. If Goku had stopped training like Gohan he probably wouldn't have been able to use SSJ3 for more than a few seconds if at all with how much that form drains you.

Really it's technically been 12 years since Gohan stopped training in earnest(bar the brief period before the tournament and the 1 day of Z-sword training), the Mystic powerup didn't do anything to his body, it took 5 more years for him to finally reach beanstalk status.

So going by this and what others are saying in this thread:

Mystic Gohan>Teen Gohan> Saiyaman Gohan>Scholar Gohan(DB Super)>Kid Gohan

The fuck? Are Goten and Trunks drinking from the fountain of youth?

No, Toriyama just thinks everyone hits puberty extremely late in their teenage years, except Future Trunks for some odd reason.

Remember that this was Goku at age 16 during his second tournament against Tien, in Dragonball.

OMG why do they gotta make Gohan look like such a bitch! This should be his wake up moment where he's like "fuck this, if dad and vegeta aren't around I need to train to be able to defend earth if anyone ever comes around as strong as Frieza again"

because it's character development. This series started with Piccolo being disappointed in Gohan's lack of training and now Gohan is suffering the consequences.

The only part I didn't like was he stood there and let Frieza continue to hit him. Come on script writers, you can do better than that.

I like how they tied in Whis' advice on leaking Ki alerting your enemies to when Tagoma powers up and Goten immediately sense him.
And that Super Gotenks headbutt lmao

Powering up allowing detection has been a series staple since forever, it's only a tie-in to the new Whis technique in that we have people who can power up without leaking (heh) now.

Like many things, I do find it a bit odd that in a galaxy full of Ki users, no one was like "hmm, what if I focus on not leaking energy instead of raw powerups?". That part seemed to be something G&V figured out on their own after a verbal instruction, rather than god given powers.

I wish we saw some Gotenks v Freiza action too, god that was some poor writing, not like they don't know their time limits by now, and they still fused 20 minutes before getting there?

Hopefully this is a wake up call for Gohan to start training again, I have a feeling based ont he preview gohan might try going super saiyan 2 even though his body wont handle the power.

I know it has, but I take it that given what Whis said, the reason people were detected was because they were leaking ki. So it's not just powering up, but not knowing how to control your Ki. Which is mattering a lot more now.

Ok just watched it and this has to mean Gohan does some fucking training after this is over, yeah? I'm not asking for him to keep up with Goku and Vegeta, just enough training to not look like a complete bitch.

Also fuck off Gotenks.

Looks like they're setting up Gohan going back to training in the future.
Got a feeling Gohan is the strongest fighter that fought beerus. Maybe he was secretly training with beerus that's why Goku didn't know.

Gotenks always has and always will be a gag character.

Loving all the Future Trunks call backs. It's funny that he was never mentioned once in the Buu saga or even GT and now he's been mentioned in a few episodes and RoF. He's deff gonna come back at some point. We need that Future Trunks / Present Trunks interaction.

TIME PATROL

time patrol?

From Xenoverse (and... Heroes? is that in Heroes, too? I've only played Xenoverse since Budokai 1).

Trunks is in the Time Patrol, recruited to make sure no time travelers fuck up the timeline. He was recruited to make up for his own sins of fracturing the timeline!

I'd super goddamn love if Super brought in the super Time Force.

fuck my bro Piccolo always sacrificing himself fro the scrub Gohan

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also to power levels and Gotenks time limit I just assume that due to people becoming stronger their base form and other forms get a boost too... while not training effects forms heavily

therefore..... Gohan's SS1 form is likely stronger then Goku's first time in SS1 since Gohan went through multiple transformations since then, similarly Goku's base form is likely now more OP then his first time turning SS1

On another note Goten and Trunks have been in limbo (for fights)) for so long that they can't maintain the fusion for a long period of time

Which is weird because Gohan is only 17 in the Buu saga.

I think we can all agree that Toriyama doesn't understand how ages work. Goten has been the same size for years now.

Welcome to the neo

I did just realize... If the time scale works similar to the hyperbolic time chamber, Goku and Vegeta may only end up spending 10 minutes in there.

But that's still 2.5 days.

That next episode preview makes me hopeful for Gohan rage boost.

Even if its just something like Gohan exploding in rage and Freiza getting a bit shook, I'd be happy with that. Haven't really got uncontrollable rage Gohan since Cell Saga, his emotions been more in check. Even when he was trying to stop Buu's revival, it was almost like he was trying to force rage, it didn't seem natural. Goku appears and calms him down/saves the day, and call it an episode.

Also, Piccolo gonna need some beefy power up.

When are you guys going to learn that Dragon Ball is all about Goku and maybe also Vegeta?

Give up, people. Gohan won't be relevant again. Piccolo will never get a massive power boost and the rest of the characters will remain the losers Toriyama made them to be since DB.
Fixed that for you. If you're talking about Yamcha, he's been a loser since day 1.

I dunno. Doesn't seem kinda hard to have gohan be the main star of the show after years of goku being the lead and saving the day all the time? So now gohan saves earth and the universe from cell, and would that have ended the show?

There's also the problem that, for a pass-the-torch arc, Gohan does the less than in any other arc before the fight with Cell, except if you consider Raditz to be its own arc.

Gohan was always in the frontlines, helping, but come the androids, and he becomes another spectator. Are we supposed to believe this guy had to take over from Goku?

Pretty cool episode. Always dig when Piccolo runs in to save Gohan, although I just hate how he got wrecked by Tagoma at the beginning. I just hate Tagoma's design.

I've always like Gotenks but I feel like the gag is running thin at the point. Like those two need to start growing up and doing something more than being comedic.
