Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Gen and Gouken are dead, they were just made playable for SF4 for the sake of making them playable.
If we get Gouken back, it's almost assuredly going to be his daughter inheriting his moveset.

I just saw this mentioned and hadn't seen it referenced here yet (could easily have missed it)- FANG's "Two Minutes" is almost certainly a reference to Wesker in RE5 (since he's the head of Shadoloo R&D and uses poison against his enemies) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amhk8KMd8lI

Alternate cover you get when you buy the "HOT! Package" in Japan.

Sorry if it's already been asked, I didn't follow all the latest news.
Does each character have her/his own stage again in SFV? Because some backgrounds look very specific (Laura's, Karin's, Zangief's...), but there are some repetitions in the latest trailer.

Beautiful illustration, but in my opinion it looks completely out of place, as a fighting game boxart (even if 'alternate' and all).

So, we have gotten a lot of stages at this point. I think they had originally said that characters wouldn't be getting their own stages, but I wonder if characters will have their own stage segments at least. I mean, we have seen one stage transition into another, but there has not been a second example of that. Surely there will be a few more...

It looks like the background from Necalli's reveal picture is possibly one of those transition area's on the right side of the Forgotten Waterfall stage...

So yeah, I guess we will have to wait and see.

^ Thanks!

Yeah, I was under the impression that each character wallpaper did actually show a different stage, but I was wrong. While some of them may hint at potential DLC stages (Mika's wrestling arena, Ryu's shrine...), some others - Cammy/Vega, Bison/F.A.N.G... - definitely reuse the same setting.

Bit late to the party but cheers for the heads up! It looks cool, though a bit heavy on the Shadaloo influences and low on the Dubai / desert influences.

Isn't that Rashid's stage? I remember there was a picture of a menu option with Rashid with an airport in the background.

Hmm, I'm not sure myself. That teaser image (see one of my other recent posts for this) did show Rashid in front of an air control tower at night, which this new stage contains (sans night time, which is a bit weird unless the time of day variations mentioned by them before have actually yet to be implemented), but his art work shows Dubai-like scyscrapers in a desert so unless those are seen in the far background (which I can't tell in this short look at the stage) I remain doubtful whether this counts as his stage or not.

If the character art did indeed give us hints for stages, like I've been positing and hoping for all this time, there should however be at least one character with art that shows an element of this new airport stage. (That, or Capcom have actually been completely inconsistent and random with that stuff by having one character stand in front of an actual stage but another in front of something that simply looks cool but is not found in a stage anywhere...)

was that a tease for Evil Ryu in the games opening cinematic?

I sure hope it doesn't as I really don't need another SF game where that dark hadou / corruption storyline plays a prominent role and where Akuma is not sufficient to play the role of evil shoto. Then again, Necalli seems to be about that stuff as well and Bison might actually have been considered by Capcom to be a good choice for final boss again, so my wish for SFIII style new storylines and things actually moving forward is probably asking for too much at this point.

maybe Evil Ryu is the secret boss of the game?

That would actually make it a bit more palatable for me, simply because of the hidden/secret side of it (though at that point why not give us Akuma instead of a literal evil clone?).

Yeah, I agree with this and have been posting similar thoughts for months.

I think we'll see a shared stage system of sorts where every character "belongs" in a stage and is associated with a part of that stage. Ryu for instance could be seen as "belonging" in the Kanzuki estate stage because of the temple + statue on the left and despite it more openly belonging to Karin. Ibuki will fit there as well in the future due to the ninja in the background.

Then again, the art in Rashid, Necalli and now Fang's portraits have yet to found in stages possibly, like I posted above, while the newly shown airport stage doesn't seem to have elements that are found in any character art (unless there is a desert city in the background somewhere, one which would be seen in Rashid's art).

maybe Evil Ryu is the secret boss of the game?

Doubt it. It'll be Evil Powered Bison or Super Nec.

Urien was never going to be the final boss since his story happens after the fall of Shadoloo. Bison is a central antagonist and was effectively MIA in SF3. Why would they not continue his story?

I thought F.A.N.G.'s character art shows the same stage to be found in Bison's wallpaper, the lab with the Shadaloo's statues.
I'm still curious about other examples though: Mika's wrestling arena, Birdie's tunnel (which reminds me of Guy's stage in SF Zero 3), or the egyptian relics behind Nash.

Honestly, I don't want a secret boss character that's not playable. If Akuma isn't getting in for another year, I don't wanna look at him sitting in the files, being non-mainable.

Yeah, I'd only really be alright with it, if they were the first character getting unlocked. Even that could kind if make sense as they could have all the assets and such ready but not have the character balanced for multiplayer yet.

At this point it looks like it will be Bison or Necalli though.

I really think they should include the cast from the original Street Fighter II.

Where's E. Honda & Blanka?

Go play SF4.

I do play SF4 & USF4,that's exactly why i want to have E.Honda and Blanka as selectable characters.

They are not going to be in the starting roster and may not be added until way later or possibly ever.

Fortunately, Capcom has a product for people who want to be able to play them, it's called SF4.

Im sorry does that delta red dude have pants on?
They no longer dressing like idiots at delta red?
Why cant cammy have pants, come on man. Can i get alt, something?

Hopefully the only returning SF2 cast will be Akuma & Sagat. Anymore characters from the series will just turn it into SF4.

It's not going to turn into SFIV regardless the systems and design principles are too different. I personally don't mind if they add more SF2 characters as long as we get more characters from other places first and there's actually demand for the characters.

Which characters do you guys think the top players are going to main in SFV?

Daigo I think will go for Ryu.

Mago will try Karin first.

Tokido will go for whoever seems to be the top tier if Akuma isn't in.

Pepeday and Nemo might gravitate towards Rashid.

Infiltration will use a bunch but will initially focus on Nash.

Momochi might go Ken.

Abel players might go for Mika or Laura.

Next month maybe?

Either that or after the game comes out. Match probably.

I think they'll announce the date the character will drop before the game is released because the character will have to come out shortly after the game is released if Capcomw ants to get them all out by the end of 2016. I feel like they'll want to show em off too in order to give people the incentive to buy the season pass or whatever. Also I'm just really thirsty to see Alex.

I'm not seeing the resemblance myself, with regards to Fang and Bison's stages.

Nash's statues are behind the waterfall, as has been pointed out. Birdie's tunnel seems to be showing a subway section of the London train station (possibly a section we can get to after a transition of sorts). R. Mika is less clear though. I was thinking that it might be showing Zangief's Russian stage, going by the stands and such, but with some additional decoration like the ring etc. Maybe his stage can transform? Or is has different versions?

(Queue people saying not everyone will get his/her stage or even stage segment...)

Yeah this seems likely. And I'm dying to see Alex too, man.

I don't think we'll see any trailer for the first DLC character until very close to launch... maybe not even until the launch trailer (maybe a tease at the end like they did with Bison, Necalli, etc).

Notice how Ono didn't tease FANG on twitter though? I think the leaks and datamining broke him... they didn't tease or hype anything really at Capcom Cup. (sorry buff Nash cosplayer)

They probably know more stuff is bound to get datamined on the next beta anyway... that is unless someone finally has the sense to really encrypt the files properly. If the next PC beta still has the same stupid encryption key... then they want dataminers to "leak" stuff because that will get a lot more headlines than if they just announced it themselves.
