Hopefully the NDA doesn't prevent me from sharing stories about encounters since I'm not discussing anything technical. I just have to say that the dark zone is crazy fun and gave some of the most tense moments I've had in recent games.
I had a full pack while playing with some friends, so I split away from my group and made my way to the closest extraction zone to send the flare and get a jump on the countdown, planning for the rest of my group to finish up their looting and regroup just as the helicopter shows up. I arrive and there is another player there taking cover on a barrier, but they didn't trigger the extraction and I don't see loot on them. I keep my distance near the ramp that I took up into this parking garage, and then I see three other players emerge from cover, one on the same barrier as the first guy, and two more up higher on containers. With all their guns trained on me, I surrender and the two on the ground approach me slowly with guns drawn, but still keep their distance. At this time, the rest of my group is making their way up the parking garage; I'm chatting with them about the situation and need them to arrive soon to show the other group that I'm not traveling alone and would be easy pickings. Someone in my group uses the recon pulse ability before making their way to the top so they know where everyone is, then my group arrives, guns drawn, walking up from behind me on the ramp I used to get up while I'm still there surrendering.
No one ended up shooting, and we all went about our business without violence, but moments like those with other players are amazing. I had very little interest in the game before, but playing the alpha has completely changed that.
