The Division beta pushed back, Xbox One Alpha test Dec 9-12

Hopefully the NDA doesn't prevent me from sharing stories about encounters since I'm not discussing anything technical. I just have to say that the dark zone is crazy fun and gave some of the most tense moments I've had in recent games.

I had a full pack while playing with some friends, so I split away from my group and made my way to the closest extraction zone to send the flare and get a jump on the countdown, planning for the rest of my group to finish up their looting and regroup just as the helicopter shows up. I arrive and there is another player there taking cover on a barrier, but they didn't trigger the extraction and I don't see loot on them. I keep my distance near the ramp that I took up into this parking garage, and then I see three other players emerge from cover, one on the same barrier as the first guy, and two more up higher on containers. With all their guns trained on me, I surrender and the two on the ground approach me slowly with guns drawn, but still keep their distance. At this time, the rest of my group is making their way up the parking garage; I'm chatting with them about the situation and need them to arrive soon to show the other group that I'm not traveling alone and would be easy pickings. Someone in my group uses the recon pulse ability before making their way to the top so they know where everyone is, then my group arrives, guns drawn, walking up from behind me on the ramp I used to get up while I'm still there surrendering.

No one ended up shooting, and we all went about our business without violence, but moments like those with other players are amazing. I had very little interest in the game before, but playing the alpha has completely changed that.

Yep,definitely sounds amazing.Looking forward.Do we have a release date for this one?

TBH

The dark zone is the most boring part of the game for me.....everyone's nice till extraction. In fact most players I saw last night just camp around them......if you're in a group it's really not that interesting. Also there is no worry of dying unless your you actually pick up anything in there.

The PvE portions of this game though make me bite my knuckles because that part is fucking outstanding.

Fantastic

One of my experiences last night, me and a friend load into the darkzone and as we're about to start exploring this group of four higher level rouge players come out running around the corner ahead of us

I'm shouting Fuck, hard left, hard left!

We do and we're instantly in a dead end with little cover, so here we are for about 40 seconds as these rouge players are coming towards us, slowly, but somehow, someway, the went straight past us without even looking at us.

Scared and exhilarating, and my friends first foray into the Dark Zone as well.

Totally buying it on my PS4......I have a SSD in it and it would make this game basically perfect gameplay wise.

All concerns come to end game........and my dark zone concerns which is PvP rank grind and if the best gear is solely limited to the dark zone.

cant tell a lot about dark zone, but i hope the areas are big enough for all the players i saw at the exit yesterday. got mixed feelings when i read about campers at extraction zones..

also a bit concered about end game because there are no story quests in the alpha and those 0815 sidequests are getting boring quite fast.
either its hold an area until extraction or kill a group of npcs.
i hope there are some satisfying PvE quests and the world is big enough to offers some surprises because i hate destiny kind of farming on simple maps like nothing else.

the alpha area is too small to get lost like in fallout for example, but really lovely detailed.

Yea, sounds like you guys had some cool experiences with the dark zone so far...mine was thus: Walk through the door. 3 or 4 guys camped out on either side of the door, waiting to execute people. On their way in. Yup. Couldn't get up the street for the all out war happening over 50rz or whatever the currency is. Eventually, those guys died, and the people who came in who got them assumed this is what you do, and thus replaced them. This was before extraction and everything ha. I love the stalker like tone of the dark zone though. I kind of wish that was the main game.

Just in case you guys hadn't heard. The Maintenance has been extended due to power outages (or something). No known timeframe of when it will be back up.

Saw the videos and really liked everything about the PvE portion.
From what I read here, I will most likely avoid Dark Zones (especially since they will require PS+, and I do not plan to extend mine after it's expired).

Still a definite buy from me when it goes on sale eventually.

You would miss out some of the most innovative ideas in RPG history.

Could someone please explain to me what the Dark Zone is? :) I have the alpha, and was wondering if it's the only section of the map where I can play with other players

That's quite the statement.

I won't say why, but the reasons are in this very thread. I'm just worried that, over time, people will get really good at being jerks.

From what I read, spawn camping has been done before.

Which isn't a problem considering how it actually works. At worst, you'd have one dominant fireteam being big jerks, but after a little while... something awesome happens. Really happy with it.

not even close

gank fest, PvP ranks and funneling people to extraction points.....yup takes geniuses to come up with that one.
/s

It needs some tweaks.....but its not innovative at all.

The PvE is much, much better and easily the best part of the game.....wasted hours wandering around picking my jaw off the floor

A place filled with scumbaggery, thievery and villainy.

I'll see you all there.

It's the orange outlined area on your map BTW.

Really eager to play, but damn Direct Parsel don't want to deliver my Xbox One...
Will probably be able to play it tomorrow, though...

Haha whattt. Calm down man. It's a neat idea right now that seems like it can equally create some cool experiences and be broken as hell. I said myself, I think maybe the whole game gorund up designed like the dark zone with the tone and feel of the dark zone would have been better, but the most innovative ideas in rpg history? It's literally what dead island 2 was going to do before it got canned haha. You're going to have people wondering what you mean by this, I reckon you probably shouldn't say stuff like that if you then hide behind the NDA for the explanation. Either you're sticking to it or you're not.

I'll say this, the reason why it isn't an issue, is because if mankind kept fighting as cavemen, they stay as cavemen. You can progress and Genghis Kahn (big jerk) or you can actually use the AI in the Dark Zone to become big fish.

But yeah, the innovative part that it gives jerks a real incentive, but being one of them isn't the only way to compete.

I'm aware I'm overly hyping this a bit, but with a team it really comes out. It feels like multiple games modes playing all at once. It's cool.

My point is, PvP is good and worth trying, even if players aren't usually for it.

Just for the record guys, detailed descriptions of gameplay encounters specifically break NDA terms and conditions, traditionally speaking.

Not really the best idea.

But it sounds soooooo gooooooood!

Thats what I did. You get a welcome to the beta email and then another email inviting you to the Alpha.

Alright, just preordered. Will I get the email in 5 minutes or so? Or will it take time?

They need a rank for Enforcer.....being good gives you Enforcer points. Better gear but takes awhile longer. You can take the fast powerful way by going rogue and gaining rogue points, or you can wander the darkzone and help other players to gain enforcer. Do either action either adds or subtracts from your alignment. Rogue being faster and a bit weaker, while enforcer being slower and gives you even better gear. Also have random events in the dark zone that helps towards your alignment.

I always wondered how they would know? I mean, the game is on XOne, this is GAF. Will they hire a special investigator to track someone down, spend thousands of dollars and then...what? Kick you out of alpha?

The way I see all these alpha/beta NDAs is as an honor system. If you want to behave, cool. If not, nothing they can do... Sure, it's different if you do youtube or twitch, but posting on GAF is safe.

Hahah, yea, I've tried to bring the NDA up in every post I've made, hasn't made much difference though. Just trying to skirt round the topics instead. I am really excited for whenever we can talk about this though. Have a lot of thoughts, and interested to know what fellow gaffers are thinking. Alpha forum is a bit of a pit but maybe we should make a gaf thread over there so we can discuss what we think haha.

Haha, well, as an example my gaf username, my xbox one tag and my ubiforum username are all the same, bar a small variation. I am in plain sight on this stuff while posting here and over there. Hoping the guy who was in here repping Ubi has looked at my thoughts over there.

Saw some screenshots in twitter feed from xbox one beta(alpha?), holy shit about lowres textures and degrade graphics, is that true?

The discussions here are always more into the game I've found then any feedback forum....most of the posts I've ever dealt with for the most part on an alpha forum are people who complain about people complaining. We give ideas here and create good discussions and its back forth.

This is a marketing alpha....not a real alpha test. It's so polished it could easily EASILY be a beta.

Well, you will only have yourself to blame then ;-)
I am a man of many different usernames (but no XOne to have a chance to break the NDA, sadly)

Just got my BETA registration code for PS4 at amazon.co.uk. It was a code to use at TheDivision.com website to register for the code that will be sent out later.

Once entered it just said that I cant do this at the moment due to the BETA only available in North America and South america.

I clicked next step, and it said Thank you for registering the beta code... Did I just get into the beta ? THEY BETTER NOT SCREW THIS UP and make my code invalid

Hehe, similiar to some DayZ stories, great.

I've played it enough to know this isn't a glorified demo like most betas. It's clearly not in a finished state. There is still lots of work left to be done. I'll leave it at that.

So fair to assume it will be pushed back. Probably be a winter 2016 title at this rate

Not advisable.

I mean gonna be really up against it, but the wonderful thing, you may able to group with the players already in the DZ though.

best solo strategy is wait for someone else to do an extraction......then just ninja in and attach your loot. As far as I remember anyone can use the helicopter rope no matter who calls it in....once its on, I think its safe.

The game looks fine. Remember, it comes out March 8th (assuming it doesn't get delayed again), so I'm sure they'll spend most of that time polishing it all up.

That sucks man. I had a great time in the dark zone.

This guy gets it. I had similar experiences. It was a blast.
