The 100 episode thing isn't exactly a rumor, considering how it popped up on Toei's own site first, but, no, it hasn't been officially confirmed either. And there don't seem to be any breaks.

Considering that the story feels like it's getting made up as we go along (I know there's an outline, but I doubt there's a 75 episode plan), I'm not sure I think that's true. Plus, if it's really successful, why end it?

Fuckin teen gohan was constantly SSJ1 for like a week before the cell games, and now he's worried he can even hold it for a few minutes. The fuck man.

He's in his early mid 20s He was 11 during Cell. He's trained maybe one day in his life since then.

Some spoilers leaked for upcoming episodes on Kanzenshuu:

Episode 23 - Bulma finally contacts Whis and tells them what's happening but Goku and Vegeta will take 35 minutes to return to Earth. The summary TheDevilsCorpse posted says Goku senses the "swollen up" ki from Gohan because of Piccolo's death and uses the Shunkan'idou to teleport there.

Episode 24 - Goku and Freeza's fight begins.

Episode 25 - Goku changes into the form that even surpasses SSG to handle the powered-up Freeza. Seeing him, Freeza has a bold smile and reveals his trump card.

I haven't read this yet. Is it a good spoiler?

I always thought Saiyans had a very fast metabolism, i.e. they can bulk up very fast and they can lose muscle just as fast. Remember these are the people who eat like two dozens bowls of rice every meal without getting fat.

Can you imagine grocery shopping for a Saiyan?

Man, what an expensive race to be

Sooooo
if piccolo is dead
than the anime is already waaaaaaaaaaaay different than the manga.
piccolo is part of the alternate dimension tournament in the manga and totally gone in the anime?
god damn.

So for some reason in the magazine with the summaries there are two sets of summaries. This is the translation for the other one:

Episode 23: “The Earth and Gohan in Dire Peril! Come Quick, Son Goku!!” (December 13th)
Piccolo sacrifices himself to save Gohan from Freeza’s Death Beam. As Gohan’s lamentation resounds, contact is finally made with Goku and co. Goku locks on to Gohan’s ki (which has swelled up due to Piccolo’s death) and teleports back to Earth.

Episode 24: “Charge! Freeza vs Son Goku. This is the Fruit of My Training!” (December 20th)
The fated battle between Goku and Freeza has finally begun. Freeza can’t hide his joy at finally being able to exact his revenge, and his methods gradually make Goku angrier and angrier. The whole time, the two battle but are merely sizing each other up, which makes Vegeta lose his temper and suddenly butt in on the fight.

Episode 25: Title Undecided (December 27th)
Goku has risen even higher through training. But even seeing Goku like this, Freeza still smiles fearlessly.

Acoording to the translator on Kanzenshuu one translation says Piccolo
shields Gohan and the other says he sacrifices himself.

This is Dragonball.
Piccolo can easily die here and already be back by the next arc.

New ending theme will start on Episode 26 instead of 25 oddly enough. It's by Lacco Tower and is called "Light Pink". For anyone curious the band seems to have weird naming conventions for their songs with titles like Apple, Pomegranate, Bud and Strawberry.

The Japanese text does say
Piccolo died.

Oh my.

I kinda wish the "they can only be wished back once" rule was in place. Would be more fear for the characters, he'll be back in time for the new arc. We're probably going to see an explosive Gohan though... in a way that we haven't seen since the Cell Games. He probably won't actually fight but he won't get f*cked up either, Goku and Vegeta will arrive in time. However, we might see that the more killer "I'm going to make him suffer" side of him is still very much there.

"Fight you? No, I want to kill you."

Gohan <3

Whatever happens to him
Piccolo, regardless it should be a wake up call to Gohan to start fighting. Earth is constantly under threat and you can't keep depending on Goku/Vegeta to fix shit. Honestly, I'd rather have Piccolo getting a boost over Gohan but I'm more disgusted by Gohan being a nerd than Piccolo getting killed by Frieza with a boost

It baffles me why Piccolo is so relatively weak considering, from all indications, he's about the only one aside from Goku and Vegeta that has actually been keeping up with training proper save for I guess maybe Tien where there's no real telling since they've relegated him to a support character at best? Or am I missing some revelation counter to that from the starting episodes?

Yeah he should be much, much stronger. You'd think that Gohan not training would make him train harder since he realizes Gohan's inability to protect himself from anyone with any sort of power.

Although when I think of Piccolo, I imagine him meditating in the air above Gohan's house and watching over him wherever he goes.

I like how everyone is mad at gohan for trying to be a responsible adult. Lol
The thing that annoys me is he's supposed to be a scholar but never puts any of that knowledge to use to make up for his lack of power.

trying to take seriously Dragon Ball is a mistake, BUT

in a world where mad strong monsters constantly come to your world trying to kill everyone, you're born with the gift of being probably the best fighter in the universe or at least one of the strongest. you can protect your wife, daughter, but not only, you can protect the entire world and even people on other distant planets. and what do you do?

you take up being an average science major.

fuck you. if you need money you can earn it with your strenght and speed in a load of possible ways. but no, you chose to be a weak asshole endangering you, your family and your friends that rush to your aid.

never understood why Gohan is so popular anyway.

This is why the fights use to be much more interesting in Dragon Ball and the early days of Z. Characters actually had fighting styles and energy beams were serious business. Since the end of the Freeza saga everyone is just a brawler and there is no difference between characters fighting styles.

Gohan really should be some kind of Ki wizard at this point... but nope, let me just fight like everyone else.

He's the worst fighter bar none. No creative techniques, no sense of improvising. He's never done anything smart in his fights and all of them devoid of any forward momentum.

Goku vs Cell > Gohan vs Cell

Gohan barely wears his own clothes either, always based off someone else's to try and get you to like him. Not fooling me

he's one of the few people on earth who has super alien powers to defend the earth from super evil aliens trying to kill everyone

and he decides to live a normal ass life

very responsible. uncle ben is rolling in his grave.

never understood why Gohan is so popular anyway.

Because a lot of people - at least in America - started out with Dragon Ball Z so they got to relate to Gohan as he grew up through the series as a character who has a lot more human traits than someone like Goku or Vegeta.

That's not to say Japan doesn't like him either... he's consistently in the top 3 characters in polls or whatever.

He's in his early mid 20s He was 11 during Cell. He's trained maybe one day in his life since then.

I mean he recently fought buu and had his potential unlocked. Way to fall off, gohan. Seeing base form freeza fuck with a super saiyan THAT easily? Get outta here.

Wasn't he also the most popular in the Japanese polls at his peak? [Cell Games] - I seem to remember reading something like that Gohan was first by a considerable margin and literally everyone was totally on board the Gohan train and ready for it to be passed from Father to Son. Not too surprised just because it was done so well up until that point.

I ain't surprised that he still makes top 3. For a series about super crazy strong guys and action, he's one of the more relatable IMO.

Yep. Still the height of the series for me too.

Sucks that GT already went with and screwed up the shadow dragons storyline. It was a great concept, there really should be consequences for the way they abuse the dragon balls.

There should be some Anubis-like god who appears and fights everyone and destroys the DragonBalls for good because he/she's tired of everyone treating the afterlife like a revolving door. Their goal is to kill everyone who has ever been revived by dragonballs, starting with Namek.

Hercule wins

So is the magazine spoiler the explanation for the
"giant ki"
of Gohan?

Cause it seems he will have nothing more to do from the next chapter on.

I think Goku, Gohan and Vegeta are by far the most prominent characters in the show (with Vegeta gaining on Gohan in the Buu saga) so there is no wonder why they are the most popular.

Out of those three, Gohan is by far the most relatable. Goku's best moments in DBZ (not the original DB) are when he transforms/powers up and beats the shit out of someone. Super is actually much better in terms of Goku time. And Vegeta is basically the Eric Cartman of Dragon Ball.

Yes. It's also a change from the events in RoF:
Instead of the Z fighters all raising their ki to summon Goku to their location, Goku will lock on to Gohan's enraged ki, which has happened due to Piccolo's death.

Gohan must have gotten high on the polls pre-cell games just by standing around in his kickass Piccolo suit.

Cause he does shit in the android saga.

Oh for a moment I thought it was a way to get Gohan into
the tournament, if for some reason they were unable to resurrect piccolo, and Goku's idea of bringing Piccolo to the tourney fell through

but then I remembered that the manga is way ahead of the anime and that
we already saw Piccolo in the manga.

The anime is already doing different things than the manga so anything's possible I suppose. I still have a feeling that the next arc will involve
Buu not wanting to go/failing the entry test so someone else will have to take his spot.

Any character like that would tap out to the YEMMA LOCK

I can do better than that and have
Mr Satan cheat on the exam and somehow answering the written test for Mr Buu.

And then the test is magical or something and decrees Mr Satan is the actual participant.

I have to strongly agree with this---I had high hopes for this bringing back at least revisions to the older techniques/styles even if that would've raised more questions as to why nothing came of them earlier. I mean, hell, they've already gone well beyond at this point with having Master Roshi actually actively entering the fray which runs counter to everything from even pretty well back to the days of the original Dragon Ball!

Tien's Solar Flare, Kuririn's Destructo Disc, Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist, The Occult angle from the whole Majin/Deboora arc---plus any number of things from the original and Z that just make sense, even for this show. They could've at least had the decency to flip us off by having Roshi bring the good old Power Pole and Yajirobe's crazy katana for his own use in the brawl since obviously his mundane staff wasn't going to amount to much.

At the rate they are going, the closest we'll get is Goku getting the idea to do a hyperfocused Kamehameha down to something like a ridiculously destructive laser pointer with the latest emphasis on crazy ki control---less to animate as well~

That's Toriyama being a lazy, complacent hack. Say what you will about Togashi but he doesn't fuck around with Hunter x Hunter.

If only AT could take a year break at his own convenience to play Dragon Quest maybe his ideas would have been better.

I remember reading how he never expected Dragon Ball to get as popular as it did and his heavy work schedule was enough to make him not want to do a long-running series again.

Which is why he mostly sticks to one shots these days.

When is Gotenks and Trunks gonna stop being comedic relief?
When they grow up.

It'll happen.

#believe

Re: ignoring characters: at least Toriyama's flaws led later mangaka to directly counter this in their own stories. Dragon Ball heavily inspired shonen after it, and its flaws were noted by pretty much everyone. If Toei/Toriyama (Toeiyama? lol) are smart they'll fix this in DBS, too.

Togashi also doesn't ignore half his characters.

Well, except for Kurapika, after Yorknew City. For the most part, anyway.

(which i'm okay with cause man he's kind of a boring character)

And I guess doctor guy a bit, too, but less so, it felt like.
