Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

This roster release format seems pretty awful to me. Why not just ship Chun, Ken, and Ryu on disc for $30 and sell the rest separately? If you're going to change it up then don't half ass it.

I like that you have a good username. I don't like that you have bad opinions.

No one is behind a paywall. And the game will ship with 16 characters with six additional coming throughout next year. Those six can all be earned with fight money. What exactly is wrong with that?

If buying them is an option I doubt unlocking them with in game money will be reasonable or easy. Putting real money up for them directly will be the better option or else they wouldn't have provided it to begin with.

Of course it's not going to be easy. I don't think anyone expects them to be. Like they've said, they're trying to reward people that play the game a lot. So you're going to have to put a lot of time in to get them. But if you're playing continuously then you may have enough each time a character comes up for release.

This should be the official cover!

So how is my proposition so ridiculous? From jump people have been asking for a fighting game to be formatted how I described. Just ship the game and let us purchase who we want.

I expect to be playing this game nearly every day for a while, so I'm not too worried personally.

To be honest, though, I do expect this to end up being more expensive for the casual user than people are expecting. People bitched about SF4's update path for some reason, even though the last 4-5 years of SF4 amounted to just $30 total for two substantial expansion packs. At $5 per character for SF5, it's going to add up over time.

Then again, casual players probably aren't interested in having every character in the roster, either, so it might end up being a wash.

I prefer to own a complete chess set from the start instead of paying for individual pieces.

If I main one of the characters behind the paywall (which I do), I'm not waiting however many hours just to have enough zenny to unlock him/her. I can't imagine why any hardcore player would. I'm automatically paying $70 for this right off the bat because I can't just not play with my main when she's right there.

Because I'm not paying 30 bucks for 4 characters.

You'll have 2 months between releases to get enough FM for a character.

You're paying $60 for what is most likely half the roster, so.

$30 in my format is for the value of the game itself, not the 4 characters per say.

The same way I'm assuming the process will be painstakingly hard, you're awfully optimistic about how many hours you'll need to put in for the value of a single character. I guess we'll see.

I don't think most fans of the series want it being sold like that. They want to go into a store, PSN, or Steam and purchase the game and be done with it. Of course there's always going to be DLC characters, but people want to own the initial release. Down the line I could see them doing a DoA Core Fighters model where they'll release a download a PSN and Steam with three or so fighters and the online mode for free with the option to buy additional fighters and modes. But SFV was always going to have a full retail release as that's what fans want.

Bro, these DLC characters are coming out one by one over the course of the first year. You're going to be waiting a lot longer than "hours."

Use that first month or two to get that fight money.

You have 2 months to save up enough fight money in between character DLC releases. They've also said there will be daily challenges that will help you earn fight money faster... so you don't just have to grind ranked.

The DLC characters are not a money making aspect, they're more for longevity and keeping people coming back. There will be cosmetic items that you have to pay for only with Zenny... they're looking to make money more the LOL and DOTA way.

It's always amusing to me that some people just divide the character roster by the amount it costs and that seems to be the total value of the game.

The season pass description led be to believe they'd be available all at once.

There will be 6 characters available over the course of the year, not all at once. Maybe read up before getting so agitated over things you haven't researched. :P It's been talked about a lot since they announced it several months ago.

I'm not agitated. You guys jumped down my throat in defense of Capcom of all companies. I'm sorry but I have zero faith in them based on history alone.

The release straight from the company should be enough research by the way, considering that's what every article discussing the topic is based on.

Nah, they just don't like your buy method atm

Yeah, forgive us for being in defense of a company because we know what is coming out.

Forgive us for knowing that a "season pass" doesn't mean content available immediately.

When was the last time season pass content was avaiable at launch?

Hell, it's why they sell season passes in the first place.
Rainbow 6 Siege actually, the last game I bought which unlocked it's characters immediately with it's season pass.

You guys are really defensive over this. It was simply an idea based on miscommunication.

Give me those outfits of Rashid and Laura as alternate costumes.
The Laura costume is too lewd

But was it all of the season pass content or part of it?

I'm not being defensive lol, I'm just discussing this normally.

Correcting your ignorance isn't "jumping down your throat" in defense of anyone.

Personally, I'd rather stick to buying yearly disc updates and avoid DLC altogether.

Why is correcting your wrong assumptions being defensive?

Sorry, and yeah it's everything. The rest of the DLC is going to be free so you're just paying for unlocks.

The entire concept has gotten so far gone, it should go back to just being called "DLC".

Gross. ASW made sure that I'll never buy disc revisions ever again.

I like being able to pull a game off a shelf a decade later and still have all the content intact. Or to swap discs between consoles at public meet-ups and tournaments. That's worth an up-front premium (and selling the old game usually cuts down the price a little anyway). R.I.P. Marvel 3 DLC characters.

I assume that at some point they will release a free version with one or two free characters to play as, maybe rotating who the free guys are weekly or so.

Maybe not at launch, tho. They want those $60 upfront.

Think they will do yearly revisions with all the DLC characters to keep the $60 price tag. I mean, when a yearly batch of DLC characters ends, so as to not fuck over the people who got the season pass.

This method for unlockong content in free to play games usually allows for skilled, or dedicated, players to have enough in-game money to unlock the next character as long as they keep up with the game. It's entirely possibly to play a game like Hearthstone, HoTS, LoL, etc and unlock all the characters/cards you want without spending any money.

The season pass also gets you 1 premium costume for each of the 6 DLC characters... it isn't known yet if those costumes will be obtainable with fight money.

Screw Jill and Shuma, I want my Yellow Iris costume back :<

I think the premium costumes will cost Zenny, yes. The "Classic" costumes they talked about will probably be sold for Fight Money and/or Zenny.

Let's talk alternate costumes!
1. Will the four preorder costumes be purchasable at launch as DLC or are they 100% exclusive to retailer incentive?
2. How many costumes do you hope Capcom will have at launch for each character?
3. What costume are you absolutely hoping for that hasn't been confirmed yet?
4. Will Capcom sell individual costumes or will they lump them in packs so you have to buy costumes for shit characters you don't care about?
5. Will they make an R.Mika costume with her ass covered up so I don't get dirty looks from my wife while I play the game? ^_^;

I hope they bring back track suit Chun Li...
