Well yeah, she doesn't necessarily know Luke is her father yet. So it's just same famous bloke named Luke Skywalker from a war long gone as far as she is concerned.

So yeah, BB-8 doesn't tell her everything.

Oh I see. I kinda assumed she was out of it because of how she responds to the vision, but you're right in how separated she seems from that.
 
To me, the more interesting thing will be Finn's reaction to BB8's mission. We already know from the trailer that Rey knows about "the stories" about the Galactic Civil War. To her, Luke is probably King Arthur.

But to Finn? Luke should be Space Bin Laden. Even if he abandoned the First Order because the mission on Jakku upset him, it should be difficult to wipe out years and years of indoctrination about Luke's role in galactic history, shouldn't it? Unless they just handwave it away as Finn accepting that everything he was told was false.

Or maybe these are not very well-known facts that are in history books? It could be possible for Finn not to be aware of who Luke Skywalker is.

It fits with the speculation that she was abandoned early in her life, whether that be because she was present at the academy, or because Luke just didn't feel she was safe in general following the attack.

It fits, with how similar her predicament is to Luke, to have her not know her place in the galaxy, or what her predicted destiny is. To have her out of the loop fits the suspected narrative.

JJ said the four words that convinced him to sign on when talking to Kennedy was "Who is Luke Skywalker?". The audience knows, Han knows, Leia knows...there has to be someone who doesn't. I know they were probably referring to it on a slightly deeper level than that, but it's interesting to consider the idea that even to his own daughter, Luke Skywalker is just a name.

I think they would not inflate Luke to be a space terrorist. I think they (The remnants of the empire) would downplay his involvement.
Heck maybe not even bring him up. Might not be a good thing to tell your brainwashed/loyal soldiers that a powerful Jedi toppled their own leaders.
 
Finn knows about Luke.

I do like that - but I'm also keeping a tiny sliver of hope (something like 5% or so) that she's a Kenobi relation.
 
episodes 8 and 9 will be about plagueis/snoke who wants wo infuse rey so she gets pregnant with palpatine. in the very last moment luke will change the process so she gives birth to himself, which leads to the saga reboot.

I think I'd prefer that, to be honest. Though I have no problem with her being a Skywalker. She'd have to be Obi-Wan's granddaughter though.

It would be a great twist to throw at everyone, even those that have read what we all have. I don't think there's anything in the shot list that explicitedly states she's Luke's; we've all kinda just gone with that idea because it makes sense. A surrogate father to one of his old masters descendants? Yeah I can run with that.

She'll be Luke's though.
 
Plagueisism is alive and well on TFN. Currently talking about a new 4chan rumor that spun off of Freezasaurus' claims:

"The brief description said he's a leader of The First Order, but he does have some agenda that his followers, including Kylo Ren, have no idea about. He's a "guardian of an ancient secret" and "powerful dark side user", and that's all, no more spoilers in the book (Visual Dictionary). Also there's two untextured 3D rendering with polygon lines of his face next to the concept art.

His cheeks are "open" and you can see the pointy teeth but it didn't appear to me as if it was some kind of damage despite what some people said, imo it's just a part of how his species look."

You see, Snoke isn't Plagueis, but he is guarding Plagueis.

I know its because of the way they were written and the order they came out, but in the movies themselves, nobody has a clue what happened years ago. And you would think these were historic events.

Luke has no idea what happened in the pre-quels.

It seems Finn and Rey have no Idea what happened in the OT.

I remember something weird in the Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith book I believe, where people were watching Anakin and Obi on Televisions/public screens while they were on a mission, implying they were superstars/celebrities.

Well the Original Trilogy and so far the New one seem to take place mostly in the Outer Rim. Maybe their news coverage isnt quite at Coruscant level.

It's a giant universe with I assume trillions of people. The scope is so enormous, it's not hard to imagine that most (at best) had only very rudimentary knowledge of what happened on other planets. If we take propaganda by the Empire into account, it's not that much of a stretch to imagine that e.g. most considered the jedi a myth, or at least the idea of some monks with superpowers.

The Clone Wars state that they're fairly known war heroes, but to most of the common folks they're just "Jedi".

a good 20 years of propaganda calling jedi traitorous fakes and you can guess the rest.

Yes. In the Servants of the Empire series, one of the first things that tips Zare off that something is up with his education is that in his history class his teacher explains how the pre-imperialized Trade Federation once attempted to profit from a planet's misery by causing a famine through genetically modified crops, then selling medical supplies which they held a monopoly on. Zare disputes this, saying that his father was involved in the situation, and that the reality was that his father's company and the Trade Federation were fighting over patents and control of the distribution of genetically modified crops on the planet, that nobody starved, and that the Republic courts even ruled in the favor of the Federation.

Also Luke was a country bumpkin from a desert world who doesn't know much anyway, other than that he doesn't like the Empire (but still wants to join the Academy anyway to get off world), that there's a rebellion happening, and that there was a war called the Clone Wars once. Rey has likewise been stuck on a desert world but seems to know about the "stories" of the GCW. Who knows what Finn believes.

I know what you're referencing with Anakin and Obi-Wan on the HoloNet but I can't quite place where it's from, maybe the RotS novelization? Anakin in the EU was known as "The Hero With No Fear" and was commonly used in HoloNet war propaganda. In the RotS novelization, Dooku is under the impression that the plan on the Invisible Hand is for Anakin to beat Dooku and take him into captivity, then after he is turned to the dark side as an acolyte (not a Sith replacement for himself) he will go on the HoloNet and proclaim that the Jedi were the real traitors all along in alliance with Dooku. Sidious would secretly get Dooku out of prison so the two of them could rule the galaxy together with Sidious as the emperor and Dooku in the shadows, while Anakin's popularity gave them credibility in purging the Jedi. They'd then set up dark side academies to recreate the Sith Empire of old, training a new Sith army.
 
I hope this Darth Plagueis thing disappears once this movie is out.

I understand that he is a fan favorite and apparently some epic badass, but it seems like its a last grasp effort to hold on to some part of the old EU.

I never read the book, so I have no stock in the fight at all, but people are so wrapped up in it, that if he isn't plagueis some fans are going to flip shit.

In ANH, both Luke's uncle and several Empire dudes make it pretty clear they think it's all nonsense, and given that when ANH begins (using OT canon and nothing made after) there's only 5 (6 if you count Leia) force users alive, it's not too surprising.
 
Guys, it all makes sense.

Plagueis is basically plague. Plagues spread to other people. Other people become infected by plagues.

This can only mean one thing - multiple people are really Plagueis - Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Mark Hamill, Billie Lourd, Mike Quinn, etc.

Enough with the damn Plagueis stuff.
 
Plagueis being a Munn is old EU. Technically in canon all we know of Plagueis is that one line from ROTS. The Plagueis crazies can cling on to the dream no matter what he looks like really.
