He mentions Goku surpassing SSJ "as well" with a rather calm and rational attitude, which doesn't seem like something he'd do, if he still couldn't become a SSJ2. He also considers himself stronger than the weakened Gohan.

However, those two are pretty much the only evidence that he had SSJ2 before getting the Majin seal. And the Buu Saga was the same place where Vegeta was saying that he could win the tournament (where #18 and Piccolo were going to fight) without even becoming a SSJ.

The Super Exciting Guide, along with Daizenshuu 7 states Vegeta achieved it through training.

Oh man, that quote just brought back memories of the Toonami DBZ intro where Frieza exclaims that. Freaking miss racing home from school to catch the newest episode of Dragon...Ball...Z!!!!!

And damn at ruthless Vegeta! Felt like a throwback to his Saiyan Saga days where he was super unpredictable and powerful. I hope this fight with Frieza has some new attacks and stuff that weren't in the movie, sort of like how the fight in space with Beerus had some cooler/flashier moments in it compared to it's respective movie.

I always watch One Punch Man after Super because of how much better the animation is over this animation.

Toriyama seemed to be moving away from the idea of transforming to power up more and more when he made full power super saiyan. He didn't go through with it but the design of SSJ God being simple shows he hasn't abandoned the idea completely.

The mystery fighter is someone that Beerus fought hundred years in the past. It's not anyone recent. Besides, they're still pretending to line up with the ending of Z, they wouldn't introduce a change like that which would make the entire final chapter impossible.

They might just make a new version of the final chapters if they intend to go past them.

Never forget Freeza impaling Krillin on his horns and then sadistically flailing him around.

I think they actually removed that scene entirely from the original dub because it was so violent. And then Krillin had this giant unexplained hole in his clothing.

Edit: ^^ Yeah, that 18 scene was intense. Really memorable fight for that reason in particular. Ouch.
