One thing seems sure, from the pictures of Hamill it looks like he's in far better shape now than he was when he filmed his VII work.

Please - I just want Luke being an absolute aged badass. In one movie. If only for a while. Episode VIII plz

I have a feeling that Disney will make Luke into the Gandalf of this trilogy, in that he'll do more in his role that simply being Yoda 2.0 or another retread of the slain mentor.

Well in 8 and possibly 9, I think so. Not in 7 though of course. Unless you count likely 30 seconds of screen time with possibly no dialogue. ;)

Believe so, however, I'm sure we'll get at the very least thinly-vieled opinions on Twitter tonight.

According to the other Gaf thread, the embargo only applies to print media - and anyone attending the premiere tonight is free to chat their mouths off about the movie on social media.

I would expect most spoilers to come out after tonight to be honest.

Yes they can't NDA the premiere as its effectively a general admission (or something like that) so shit will leak like a sieve.

Great. Wasn't sure if there was a social media embargo or not (Some films do this, some don't), but I figured even if there was, there'd be at least vague stuff. Glad we'll get something more concrete.

Are you sure he's not in this movie? You aren't trolling me now are you? Is there any reason why Snoke wasn't around before/ Let me guess he's an evil sith lord that's been hiding and was accidentally awakened after the emperors death?

JJ joked that he should've included Jar Jar's skeleton somewhere on Jakku, but no, Jar Jar is 100% not in the film. Everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney would have to be morons for that to happen.

I don't think we know if Snoke is or isn't a Sith, but it sounds like he's not. We know for sure that Kylo isn't. He's a powerful Dark Side user, but probably not a Sith. It sounds like they want to honor the fact that Darth Vader really did wipe out the Sith in RotJ.

nothing about Snoke's background has leaked. no one outside the production knows.
and I think it's likely that even JJ does not know and Snoke stays a mysterious figure at this point.

remember, JJ did the same thing with the Smoke monster in Lost. he brought it up and bailed the show, let others do the explaining, which failed miserably.
Snoke, Smoke, Snoke. Not a coincidence, he will do the same thing here.

So not hand / lightsaber in space as opening scene ?

According to JJ, it's a different sort of opening, which would be an apt description of that leak... so I imagine it could be accurate.

Far more likely it's a lone saber than a hand/saber combo, but that's just my own speculation.

Kinda funny that we've had a scene-by-scene description of the whole movie for a while now and people are still coming in here asking about these crazy theories.

What about the things we won't learn in Ep7?

Nothing at all about Rey's past, parentage, etc
No explanation on how the lightsaber was retrieved from Bespin
Nothing on Snoke.

It's a shot list so we know the broad strokes and have been filling in some plot details recently but there is still plenty we probably don't know.

I think I am still going to leave this thread at some point in the next 24hrs so that I don't have all those little details spoiled.

I can imagine that at least some of those things will get mentioned in EU Comics/Novels.

I think the Story Group will probably keep some of those specifics off limits for the duration of the sequel trilogy simply because the directors/writers for the next films may want to visit those points.

I could see the lightsaber retrieval being EU at some point though. Then again, maybe it's mentioned in dialogue during EP7.

I think the first one still has a chance of being at least hinted at. The second one too honestly.
Nothing on Snoke seems par for the course.

Of course. I can't imagine Snoke getting his first big reveal in the EU. But something like the Lightsaber could be too uninteresting for the Movies. I mean let's be honest this Film will give us so much EU material. Every little thing that gets mentioned and every background character will get their stories. (Like the The Crimson Corsair)

Do we know anything about captain phasma, she looks like the type of character to get a spinoff.

I can see her being heavy EU fodder.

I believe she's confirmed back for Episode VIII.

I could see the lightsaber recovery getting a throwaway line at the start of the film. "This lightsaber? It was recovered by a Mandalorian bounty... blah blah." Then the EU will expand on the story. That's how these things usually work.

Some of the leaked pages of the visual dictionary from Reddit. Rey is basically confirmed force sensitive.

Han and Leia were married and Han was a family man until a tragedy occurred.

The MF.com call sheet is looking rock solid. Sounds like Maz already has the lightsaber.

She's the new Boba Fett. Walk around and look all cool looking. Maybe her role is expanded in the sequels.

I think she's going to have a bigger part than Boba did, at least during the trilogy as a whole. Supposedly they had originally cast Benedict Cumberbatch for that part, but genderswapped it 3 weeks before shooting and cast Christie, due to wanting more female representation.

You don't go after someone as big as Cumberbatch for a part if you don't plan on doing anything more with it beyond being a masked background character.

Yeah, they wouldn't cast Gwendolyn Christie to just look cool. I hope this film allows for a animated show not between ROTS and ANH, I want some new shit.

I'd be surprised if Phasma even takes her helmet off, my guess is that it's a very small role.
remember, they also cast an academy award winner to voice Maz.

I really wonder why we haven't gotten more scans from the kid's book. that thing could reveal everything.

Supposedly the visual dictionary talks about Kylo Ren's real name being a secret in some way and that he has the blood of both one of the most powerful Jedi and Sith. No clue if that is true. Someone on Reddit said the other person who posted pictures elsewhere told them that

So Han's a deadbeat dad
I FIGURED AS SUCH

I don't think you read that correctly.

The senate was in the OT too. Leia was a Senator, the senate being shut down was part of ANH.

Right, but if it's featured in the "Visual Dictionary" wouldn't that imply that we see it at some point? Maybe it's a page highlighting various senators that show up in small parts.

Having a page seems to indicate more representation for it than I would have guessed.

Edit: As Inferno said, probably some New Republic Senators showing up or something.

Two separate entries for Kylo Ren?

Edit: Same for Rey.

Finn as well. He's "FN-2187"

So kylo is not as in charge as I previously thought, sort of like a teachers pet.

I'm really hoping that Hux/Phasma treat him similarly to the way Tarkin treated Vader in ANH. Even in the short time they shared on screen, I liked what they portrayed in regards to their relationship.

Clearly Kylo's powerful and scary...but they are still a military operation, and ultimately, there is only so much deference he should be afforded.
