What did Han and Leia do to have such an evil child? Not adopted, not abducted, not brain washed, no pregnant waifu, so kylo is just pure evil by birth? Maybe it is the skywalker incest that happened in ANH?

He wasn't loved enough (as the son of a prominent politician and a famous racer, apparently, not getting attention would make sense) and he probably had a snake (Snoke) whispering in his ear.

Pretty much this. In the call sheet, he's abducted, joins the Knights of Ren, then comes back to fuck shit up.

The call sheet is a bit too ambiguous though. With editing it could be different from how it reads. Call sheets are also revised over time so who knows exactly how the flashbacks play out. But the same basic story will be told.

Yeah. I'm still not 100% sure how the flashback goes down, but the basic idea's there.

I'm sure it will, but its just one of those surface level comments that doesn't really mean much. Like Terminator 2 probably has just as many similar plot elements to T1 as TFA has to ANH(Los Angeles setting, naked Terminators arriving in bubbles and kill cops/jerks for clothes, Connor target, the entire chase movie structure, T-1000 Arnold and all his iconography, "I'll be back" "Come with me if you want to live", a final car chase into a big factory for the mano-y-mano climatic confrontation), but I think we all agree that movie is fuckin' awesome. It has strong characters, thrillingly conceived/choreographed/shot/edited setpieces, a great score, a lot of its humor really works, proper character and conflict set-ups that pay off beautifully, fantastic visuals that still hold up. It moves with a confidence and momentum that could only happen when one of the best blockbuster directors in the world, given more money than anybody, to do what he's best at.

Similarly, T3 is terrible, and its not because it too has plot elements similar to the first one. Although that's like the #1 people say who don't think about why a movie isn't working, straight out of the spookyfish line of shitposting. "This thing reminds me of something from another movie!"

Movies are more than plots. You got a Kubrick avatar, I thought you of all people would know that.

Obviously movies are more than plots, I love ROTJ btw. I am probably on of the last people on the planet who puts it above episode 3.
but if 3 of 7 movies of the franchise have a superweapon as the main plot it gets tiring. or if I ask you differently, you wouldn't mind at all if episodes 8 and 9 had a superweapon each? you still would not think it's starting to get really tiring, or that it's a valid flaw?

look, I obviously get what you are trying to say, a movie doesn't get "bad" because of this, if you look only at this movie. but those movies are not in a vacuum, they exist in a franchise/saga of 7 movies where this plot has now been done by 3 movies.
it's not only unoriginal, it's uninspired and people will very rightly think "really, again?"

why does it work in T2? because T2 played around with the dynamics of T1, broke them, turned them around and surprised the audience with it by giving it new dynamics, it felt more like a reinvention than a copy. a lot of that had to do with arnold, it would probably not have worked with an all new cast and it would not have worked with arnold as the villain again.
that's why T3 was tiring again, although you are certainly right that there are many other points that make this movie inferior.

what I'm trying to say, ROTJ did not bring in a new dynamic, it didn't surprise the audience, it felt like a copy, unlike T2. and so far I have not seen anything that TFA might do better in that regard, but of course I will gladly be proven otherwise.

And still no soundtrack leak. :(

Ummm...Anakin is his grandfather. In the Clone Wars, he's frequently completely unhinged. Also, Leia is pretty damn violent. She's definitely more of her father's daughter. Luke is more like Padme. I mean, the first thing she does when she's "rescued" is grab a blaster rifle and start shooting people. I'm not at all shocked that Kylo is a crazy man.

This thread just reminded me that I should get a card for Thursday.

Edit:
Jesus. There's like two dozen showings on Thursday alone in my local cinema.

For a movie whose entire plot leaked ages ago, they've been awfully good at maintaining the fiction that they've successfully kept an airtight lid on spoilers.

Is that opinion REALLY that common? I can't imagine it is. Yes, ROTJ is the weakest of the OT, and ROTS is the strongest of the PT... But in no world does ROTS come close to ROTJ.

Boyega and Ridley on GMA mentioned that someone lost their script. And Adam Driver on Howard Stern mentioned stuff leaked and that it sucked because of how hard people work to keep it secret.

99% of all movie goers will never see any of this leaked stuff.

Exactly. Most people won't even see these spoilers. Only us enthusiasts really.

If Finn really is Force sensitive ... wouldn't Kylo already feel it? I mean .. there's a guy who can become a great warrior among you. Yet, you (Kylo) seeks out to destroy every last Jedi but Finn apparently goes unnoticed.

It's not like the Highlander where they hear weird music and/or receive a metaphysical prostate massage when they get within 50 feet.

Again, something doesn't make sense me still.

So Kylo wasn't separated, he killed everyone there. Okay, so Luke hasn't been hiding for decades, at most Luke has been hiding for 10-12 years after his students were murdered.

So if they were murdered 10-12 years ago, Kylo was 16-17 when he killed everyone? Seems strange still that he was so tall and already wearing that out in the rain "image" Maz shows him. What this tells me is that vision she shows isn't exactly what happened but again more of just a vision, implying yes Kylo killed them.

And they mention this saber is newly constructed. How can that be when he killed everyone 10-13 years ago? Unless he used his light side saber to kill everyone and made a new one himself only recently.

The fact is, Luke has been in hiding for a very long time which means the school has been destroyed for a long time which leads to Kylo being young when he did it and that means he used a different saber to do it. Which is why Maz's "vision" is just placing people where they were but Kylo Ren wasn't exactly Kylo Ren back then, he Han's kid with a saber. This is just showing the audience it was him without giving away his heritage in the film.

To;dr: There's no way Han's kid is wearing the Kylo Ren outfit or using that saber if Luke has been in hiding for a long, long time if he was responsible for taking down the school with or without help (the kid would've been 15-17 at the oldest). Which leads to Maz's vision showing the truth in its own way, not a literal flashback.

For a while there people were claiming TPM was the worst of the prequels, general consensus is now AOTC is the worst. And general consensus has been growing that ROTS is better than ROTJ.

I would say the most common ranking amongst fans is:
1.ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTS
4. ROTJ
5. TPM
6. AOTC

That's exactly where I would rank the SW films as well.

Is it really? I honestly find that surprising.

1. ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTJ
4. TPM
5. ROTS
6. AOTC

Maybe I'm the weird one in all this.

1) KOTOR II plus Restored Content Mod
2) Empire
3) ANH
4) Jedi
5) The Clone Wars (2D show)
6) The Clone Wars (3D show)
7) KOTOR
8) Sith
9) Clones
10) The Holiday Special
11) The Phantom Menace
12) The Clone Wars (film)

I won't take them off. Can't make me. No matter what Cheebo says.

Can we please not rank the movies in this thread? It just causes a massive detail and pointless arguing.

So how much Luke are we gonna see in this movie? Flashback with his students and at the end?

I honestly can't see how someone would like the phantom menace over attack of the clones.

I'll give you that clones is garbage but phantom menace is like garbage mixed with fecal matter

what if TFA is the best SW movie

Then we are in for a treat over the next decade or so.

I'm excited. I'm not sure if it'll surpass the originals for me just due to nostalgia, and because of how re-mixed the Abrams Star Trek movies felt, but...I'm excited. Just hope the villain is given due justice and isn't another whiny boy who had a rough childhood.

I just hope kylo ren isn't killed off in the first fucking movie.

It's going to be hard to beat empire but I hoping for the best.
