[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

That wasn't really a problem with the PTs though. It was how the Force Users were depicted rather than their actual existence.

I think their abundance definitely contributed to it. Star Wars works best when force users are not common because that sense of mystery and rarity plays well into the nature of "magic". Obviously it's a bit different in games like KotOR, and I'm sure someone COULD have made movies with tons of Jedi everywhere and not suck at it, but I do think it makes it harder.

I'm not denying that, I'm not saying Finn can't be amazing, I'm not saying it is necessary for a character to be force-sensitive to be popular. I'm just saying that given the special appeal of a character with superpowers, some people will be disappointed and all things considered I probably won't find joy in that.
Yeah, I thought for sure if the movie did something bad I could laugh it off. I couldn't laugh this off.

Nah Finns my man. Huge huge fan of Boyega and I have no doubt he will be my favorite character from the film (next to BB8!) It's just people had very unrealistic ideas on the character he was going to be playing. The next Luke sort of character was never in the cards, regardless of the race of who the actor picked was.

Look at Bobby's post above yours. What's wrong with that sort of character? It seems like a decent character to me. Sounds kinda like a young naive kid, that been through a lot and seem some shit but isn't afraid to back down from danger

I am just having a hard time understanding what his *thing* is supposed to be.

Han was a suave pilot, with his very own wookie bodyguard, fastest ship in the galaxy. Luke obviously had the force, a great mentor in Ben/Yoda, etc. Leia was royalty (As well as, and this might seem problematic in retrospect, but she was "the girl")

Of course, as has been stated throughout the thread, no need to think they are going to stay with those archtypes, but as of now, they do seem helpful during the discussion.

Since Rey is basically John Cena, who can do it all including overpowering a so-called Jedi killer despite never picking up a lightsaber in her life, what kind of wrestling jobber would Finn be?

BronsonLee, help me out here. I'm thinking the Brooklyn Brawler.

He's Kofi pre-ND

He gets his occasional RR spot, but aside from that, no need to take him seriously.

Whether Ep.8/9 will be a New Day, I can only hope.

That's going to rub me the wrong way if it comes off as the way people are describing it. It would be like Luke beating Vader in Episode 4.

I want my Old Republic film. I want it. I want it so bad.

I believe Duke "The Dumpster" Droese would fit here.

Rian will redeem this racism. Finn's European title shot is coming.

(they still have the European title right)
That thing ain't been around in 15 years.

So is this an actual backlash or are ya'll just trollin?

I feel a grave disturbance in the force...like the internet is going to explode into an insufferable mess after this movie is released.

The idea that every character has to have force powers to be interesting is what led us to the terrible CG spam that was the PTs to begin with!
No that because the PT was actually about the Jedi Order that existed. I understand the PT put a sour taste to people. But the whole point about the force is that it is use for good and evil from a group people, not just one person every generation.

Do people really don't want to see a new Jedi Order, cuz if not this story will haunt start to get boring if the force is pass down to one person to save the entire galaxy

Rian Johnson hasn't had a prominent black person in a film for over a decade bruh. Finn doesn't stand a chance.

Shit...there was a black guy in Jurassic World, right?

I still don't understand how the fuck Ren jobs to Rey.

Sorry, autocorrect on phone. Should of said Rey/Finn romance, at least going off of what that Boston globe review mentioned.

Wouldn't call it a romance. It was rather one sided (on his part). She seemed to care for him, but more as a friend, not in a romantic way.

Dude is stopping blaster bolts midair. Nobody in either trilogy did anything remotely on that level. I can't begin to imagine how hard that shit is even as a Force user.

He then loses to a woman with atmost little training.

I like the theory where she's had training, but her memories have been repressed or wiped to protect her and not make her a target for any baddies hunting Jedi. Would tie in nicely with why she was also dumped on a planet in the middle of nowhere. As the film goes on, her Jedi instincts start to kick in and it starts coming back to her.

Of course, that theory could also be a big pile of shit.

I'm really only curious about two things at this point...
How long does it take for Finn to get dropped?
and
Exactly how much training does Rey have, if any?

I dig it.

This sounds like a great first episode of a trilogy. So many people sound like they want this to be three movies in one.

It sounds exactly like what someone with reasonable expectations would hope for. I'm more nervous about 8 and 9 personally. Lots of room to be creative and lots of room to goof up.

LOL. Ah man. Let me find out this dude is acting thirsty throughout the film. Only to get hit up with "k" text-messages at every turn.

I'd be happy if he could win the metaphorical KOTR at this point.

Just got back from seeing the film... really enjoyed it. Going to bed (it's 3am) so i'll try to answer questions when i wake up.

This thread is a mess lmao.

Hyped to see this on Friday! Love all the OT, and even Sith, I'm easy to please when it comes to Star Wars.

Got my girl Rey. :') So happy for a strong female protagonist who is also a Jedi :')
