[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

I like the idea of Snoke being a giant/large. The physicality of him could be an interesting concept to tackle in the future.

Or the hologram is just a fakeout.

I have questions after watching the movie an hour ago:

1. Who is Snoke, where did he come from?

2. Any hints on Rey's backstory? Is she related to Luke somehow?

3. Is there any media that fills the gap between episodes 6 and 7? The whole Luke training Jedi and Ren going bad bit in particular?

Most of these questions will certainly be answered in the coming literature and the following episodes.
But I don't think Rey is related to Luke, I hope not anyway.

Truth: If Finn isn't Force sensitive, which looks to be the case, then it's pretty badass that he was able to hold his own with Kylo Ren for a bit and even put a hit down on that motherfucker.

Nah, it's just that Ren is a loser and can't do anything right.

Original trilogy had Vader.

Force Awakens gets this weakling...ugh...worst villain in my opinion.

Hope they fix him up for the next movie. He is getting trained after all.

Haven't seen Raid. (On my "to watch" list though. Been for some time.)
I just have a feeling i've seen the actor somewhere else... but then, i am bad at telling people apart and remembering faces, so i could be mixing him up with someone else.

If you're thinking Iko Uwais he was in Man of Tai Chi as a sub-boss.

Finishing his training.

Though this begs the question, what the hell did they teach him? Certainly not dueling. Though stopping blaster bolts midair was pretty cool.

AHHH Holy shit, I forgot about that whole Sledgehammer thing

I wonder when all that shit got cut. The Array & the Sledgehammer - there was supposed to be a way bigger space battle at some point that isn't even there anymore.

Abrams has definitely talked up the idea of deleted scenes in the home release; I'm guessing that's where we'll see stuff we'd thought we see like the Sledgehammer and etc.
I hope Abrams, Lucasfilm and co have a lot of say in the bonus material for the Blu-ray release, since I really don't hope the release will be as bare-bones as most recent Disney/Marvel releases.
Is this true? Man, that really sucks. That's actually the part I was looking forward to the most. Really sad.
It's not forgettable, but it's a lot more subdued like the originals, rather than extravagant with titles such as Duel of the Fates etc.

I'm kinda wondering how Kasdan pushing for more ambiguity and less verbal exposition is going to work for people in the long run. I really appreciate the movie having a sense of mystery and maintaining it, but I feel like some people may be burned by the lack of answers. Then again, the general non-fan audience may not give two shits.

I also hope it doesn't end up like Into Darkness (granted, different *everything* there but still, JJ) where the bonus features were divided among retailers.

Yeah I wonder if those even made it to the production stage, but the call sheets reference that stuff, right?

lol @ Rey randomly remembering "The force!" In her duel against Kylo Ren. Like... what?

Also, before that, when we saw the close up of the sabre hilt in the snow and Kylo failing to pull it, I thought for sure we were going to see it fly into the hand of Luke and he would save Finn and Rey.

Well yeah, kind of obvious they left these things to mystery to build hype for the next episode...was hoping to get some insight into the whole Snoke-Ren relationship and the formation of their order.

He is hurt tho, and it seems it has been a long time since he faced somebody in duel (last time was when he exterminated his former co-padawans?). But man, he is strong in the force, he is still a Skywalker. Funny, the first time I saw the final trailer, when Kylo is approaching Finn, his long hair gave away his filiation to Anakin Skywalker.
20/10 hindsight

Disney's exclusives are actually kind of worse. When Disney adds exclusives they're usually at Target nowadays, and digital streaming only...

It'll all end up online, in any case...

Speaking of things that have ended up online, the back half of Rey's theme sounds vaguely like the Sons of Liberty theme from MGS2 and it's starting to bother me. Still a great theme, though.

My first thought was "wait so is this discount Voldemort"?

One of the slightly more underwhelming grand villain reveals in recent history. He should have been kept under wraps visually.

I kind of agree, I love his scale, but it wouldn't have been that bad if he was still a work in progress till EP8. A little bit like Smaug in the Hobbit.
Then they kill him 10 min into the final episode

In the cinema.
6 min min until my pants awakens.

Enjoy!

IDK if you're a fan of the OT you should be use to the ambiguity, The original ANH was choke full of references that no one knew anything about. The Emperor, the old republic, the clone wars, Jabba the Hutt and probably many other examples had no explanation and some of them like the clone wars weren't mentioned again or explained for decades.

I really love Snoke's design. We all knew it would be CGI. He looks menacing as hell during that scene with Kylo and Hux imo. Though I do think maybe he might not actually be that tall/massive since he appears as a hologram only, which I'm fine with. We'll learn a lot more about him in the upcoming films. Can't fucking wait.

I really loved it, but I feel JJ's lack of talent as a director really botched the Han Death scene. It was so obviously coming, but with Ford unable to act it just felt like an eternity.

Snoke looks like Snape and that white Orc's bastard love child. The word that comes to mind is generic - which is a shame considering all the imagination on display everywhere else in this film's inhabitants.

Right, but this trilogy is working with a different audience and environment than the OT. The lack of answers, especially with lead characters and for another two years, will likely frustrate many.

I liked how Snoke looked. Human but not quite. The uncanny valley effect is there, he looks disturbing because he is almost but not quite like a human.
Good voice.
Can't wait to learn more about him.

World War 2 went on for months after Hitler died. It's ridiculous to think that the galaxy was instantly safe simply because the Emperor was killed. Especially when we're talking about a galaxy-wide empire. It's like the fall of the Roman empire x lightyears

And going by the plot summary, the First Order is relatively recently in the timeline. Sounds like there was relative peace for a few decades, and even now the conflict is relatively small scale - an smaller Resistance against a smaller First Order

Oh that's why we got a roll call of many different planets from many different galaxies full of celebration at the end of VI as if the galaxy was saved?

As for you second line, I guess that would be acceptable explanation to this new force but do you have any official sources to back it up, that this is on a much smaller scale than the original trilogy?

I don't think you know what this words means.
Retroactive continuity - When you want to continue a story but some of the story elements you bring to the table doesn't really add up to how it was originally perceived to be like, thus you make up a new explanation to the contradiction. Is your idea of what a retcon is much different than that?

only ambiguity I didn't like is what is the point of the resistance?

The republic is established and seems to have its own fleet, but the resistance is fighting the first order.

Did the first order and the republic create a truce and the leaders of the rebel alliance disagree with it and continue to fight what is left of the empire?

BB was great for humor. The lighter thumbs up slayed my theater.

You, a lot more humor than all previous SW movies combined.

Can't believe how tiny BB was compared to R2-D2.

Too soon, man.

That's what I thought..

Ambiguity is fine.

An awkwardly cut, 1 minute stare-off between Luke and Rey before cutting to credits is pushing it though.

Should have just ended it without showing Luke's face, or would that have been worse?

What is the whole deal with Snoke? Why is he the highest commander? I understand he wants to rule the galaxy, find Luke and destroy the Jedi but everybody wants that. Why are Kylo and Hux even obeying to Snoke?

Hmmm, well what baout this: there should only be the Knights of Ren and their convictions driving the entire New Order, NO SNOKE. Hux should've been invested on deeply personal levels, like revenge for what happened to the Empire, and they should present that from his point of view - as if he truly believes that what he is doing is the only way to fight the chaos of society or whatever.

Instead of Snoke, have Ren contact the other Knights of Ren Council and discuss their plans. Hux can remain fearless among the sith because he knows that he is able to do the one thing that their emotional unstable rage can't handle: administration. Nobody will kill Hux bc he's too valuable of an asset so there's this mutual gain and cooperation within this evil group. Ren could be in a default position of authority bc of his heritage but he also has convinced everybody that he gains some kind of unique insight through darth vader's midichlorians. There really is no reason for a huge cgi man in the dark when you have so much good shit to work with already.

How specifically does Han die? Force Choke or lightsaber?

Too intense for little kids? My friend's 8 year old is climbing the walls to see this.

I don't really understand the critics about K.Ren, he's powerful and insane but hurts when he fought against Finn and Rey and we don't know the last time he had to fought with his saber, he just killed his father and he's probably a mess in his head like he is during all the movie.

I really like he's over rage time when he destroyed everything and shit, he's just Rey mirror, a Padawan that'll become a sith lord when Rey will became a strong Jedi, I'm sure Kylo will have the upper-hand in Ep 8 and die at 9 by Rey hands, fine by me.

my only grip with the character is the fact that he removed his mask to quickly when he should have dropped it for the first time in front of Han and the lack of proper musical theme for him.

OK question - thinking of taking my 7 year old daughter as a rites of passage. She is mature and can cope with a fair amount. Shes not seen ROTS but i think she would be entirely fine with that whole film EXCEPT the burning Anakin.

With that as a starting frame of reference, for those that have seen it - how is it or do you see it from a 'scary' child's perspective?
